NYC Mayor Criticized for Decision to Exclude Clergy From 9/11 Ceremony

Some New York politicians and religious leaders are criticizing Mayor Michael Bloomberg for not offering clergy members a role in the high-profile ceremonies marking 10 years since the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, The Wall Street Journal reported.

"This is America, and to have a memorial service where there's no prayer, this appears to be insanity to me," said Rudy Washington, a former deputy mayor under Rudolph Giuliani. "I feel like America has lost its way."

A spokewoman from Bloomberg's office told The Journal that the focus, as in past years, will be on the family members of the fallen. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik told the paper he understood the mayor's decision, saying, "I don't know how to make it possible for everyone to have a place at the table."

Ninety percent of the firemen and ninety-five percent of the cops who died on 9/11 were Catholic. Ever see the pictures of hundreds of firemen with heads bowed, receiving absolution from a local priest, before heading into the building, where they died?

The exclusion of religion from the ceremony is spitting on the graves of the men who gave their lives. I would like to see G.W. Bush have the courage to withdraw from this event.

the nicest thing that can be said about this is "idiotic." I don't bberg is malicious. I think he's...occasionally out of touch.

chris christie told him off last week because bloomberg didn’t invite one of the former govs. in NJ who was gov. during 9-11.. and bloomberg didn’t invite one of chrisite’s appointees, the dep. director of the port authority.

I feel very deeply for the families that lost loved ones during this horrific event, but this was a tragedy for the entire nation, not just a few. Bloomburg has lost touch with reality.

I’d be willing to bet there were more CHRISTIANS that died in those towers than non-Christians and for that MOTARD BOOB Bloomberg to deprive all those families the comfort of acknowledging that......uh, ‘cuse me....I forgot he’s been too busy trying to make that mosque at ground zero a reality. He’s got a terminal case of the dumbs as well as political correctness! Damn New York, when are you gonna get rid of this guy????

NOMINALLY Catholic. My home state, and particularly my frequent city of resident, are quite secular now.

I admire your screed on Bloomberg, but there is a reason why real estate is more expensive and desirable in Manhattan, much of Brooklyn, and parts of Queens, while the slovenly schlepps have to live on Lawn Guyland (nobody wants to live on Lawn Guyland unless they have no other choice, the same can’t be said of NYC).

The left has just gone totally crazy.

The left has always been evil and therefore insane and are now taking their masks off.

From your lips to Zeus’s ear. Unfortunately, the next Mayor will likely be Rosie O’Donnell, er, Christine Quinn.

Maybe some of these decision makers will not have a place at God’s banquet table in heaven (because they are somewhere else, of course!)

They did, nevertheless, receive absolution, knowing they were courting death.

Just this idiotic move makes Christians feel like Jewish people are anti-Christian!! And then the ADL will come and accuse the Christian of being anti-Jewish!

It’s because Bloomberg is Jewish. It’s acts like this that causes anti-Semitism. Fair minded Jews MUST come to the side of the Christians.
