DAMN
crap, that’s funny
You're right - Isobel was a mess up here. We could do without the tree surgery bills this time. The quake gave people something to talk about on an otherwise quiet summer day. I'm glad it wasn't more serious.
I sure felt it where I am!
And my brother in law in Windsor told me he felt it too!
I felt the quake here in Ohio, and I called Hubby and told him we had a 3.0. Later he found a site online that listed the magnitude of the quake in the vicinity, and for where we are, it said it was a 3.0, LOL!
Former California resident calls the magnitude! I was a fifty-three-year resident and lived through many earthquakes. I know a 3.0 when I feel one.
Used to live west of Fairfax, about 15 miles from DC. Got Obama’d and had to move to where I could find work.
well since a lot of us have lived a lot of years in the northeast without ever feeling a 5.9 or any earthquake at all, it was of more interest to us
That's pretty hard to answer as it depends how far down into the earth the epicenter is.
Will do. Thanks for the information.
I’ve been playing 12-string for years and just a few months ago discovered why I’m always breaking strings. A 12-string is not supposed to be tuned like a regular guitar but a half step down due to the extra pressure on the neck.
Of course when playing with a praise and worship team or a band, you have to be tuned to the keyboards and the other instruments, so the string breaking will continue(unless one wants to use a capo, which I don’t).
No, you could feel it on the ground. I was in my house and went outside to see if there were any clouds of jet-fuel smoke rising into the air, as there were on 9-11. The ground was vibrating strongly. (The shaking went on long enough that I had plenty of time to put down the laptop and go downstairs and out, quite a long way.)
Sorry, I guess I’m stupid. I was replying to a post that mentioned solar wind, and saw the image I posted, which shows not just the diurnal variation you mention, but marked fluctuations/variations or “jiggles” as stupid people like me describe them, on those diurnal variations.
And because I am so stupid, I noted the time/date as well. Then somebody smarter than me explained to me what UTC means.
And again, being that I am so stupid, I always thought that solar winds contained a crapload of charged particles, which some people call a geomagnetic storm. And I also apparently mistakenly believed that geomagnetic storms could affect the earth’s magnetic field, causing something like those “jiggles” I saw on the image I posted.
And I again, mistakenly, believed that those magnetic vibrations induced currents not only in the upper atmosphere but in the ground below us.
Accept my apologies for being so stupid.
It hit Pittsburgh. Some older buildings lost some bricks. Haven’t heard of any major damage.
It's an old mining town...several mines...
Every time I thing mines, I think caves and TERRORISTS. Plan gone awry??
“GOD HAVE MERCY on our damaged nation...”
I think He’s the one doing the damage. Remember Egypt? Sodom and Gammorah? GO is probably the one doing this stuff Himself, He has a history of doing it, certainly.
In the East Coast, there aren’t supposed to be earthquakes. From what I know, the plates on this side of the planet are not supposed to shift at all.
I think this comes from God, not science. This is too unnatural to be science.
I make calls all day, I spoke to several peole in California right after it happened, told them it was a 5.9, they all said WOW, that’s a good one!
The earth moved in VA and Ill just bet everyone in DC wants a nice, stiff stimulus to calm their nerves.
Family reporting another severe aftershock around 8:00 p.m.
Yeah, we are just south of the original epicenter and we just had a small after shock. Lasted about 15 seconds and sounded like distant thunder as it came on.
