Karl Rove and Rachel Maddow Agree: Sarah Palin Will Run
Death and Taxes Mag ^ | 08/22/2011 | Carmel Lobello

Posted on 08/22/2011 10:15:00 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Last weekend, ex-Republican campaign strategist/current Fox News political commentator Karl Rove repeated twice that Sarah Palin will run for president. He’s obviously right.

Appearing on Fox News Saturday, Rove stated that Palin “has a schedule next week that looks like that of a candidate, not a celebrity.”

He then appeared on “Fox News Sunday,” pointing to a campaign-like video recently released by Palin‘s Political Action Committee, as well as upcoming events in Iowa as evidence that Palin will soon announce her candidacy. Watch the video below.

“If she doesn’t get in next week, I think people are going to basically say, ‘She’s not in, she won’t be in and if she gets in, I’m not going to be for her,’” Rove added. “You can only tease so many times in the political process and I think she’s getting to the end of that.”

Much evidence seems to back up Rove’s comments. Back in late June, Bristol Palin told Fox News that her mother had definitely decided about whether or not to run, but that “some things just need to stay in the family.”

Since around the time she made that statement, Palin’s schedule has, as Rove put it, “resembled that of a candidate, not a celebrity.” Celebrities don’t paint a giant tour bus with American flags and tour U.S. historical sites with their families, nor do they show up at the Iowa state fair to talk about the future of the country. And they especially don’t release campaign videos.

Rachel Maddow shared Rove’s prediction, Tweeting: “Why is it political common wisdom that Gov Palin is not running? What’s her new Iowa ad for, if not for a campaign?”

So what does Palin have to gain by launching her full-on campaign three months before announcing her candidacy? (If, in fact she does.)

Back in October 2010 Palin said that she would run for president in 2012 “if there’s nobody else to do it.” She included that she’d “take a real close look at the lay of the land to consider whether there are those with that common sense, conservative, pro-Constitution passion, whether there are already candidates out there who can do the job … or whether there’s nobody willing to do it, to make the tough choices and not care what the critics are going to say about you, just going forward according to what I think the priorities should be.”

By delaying her official entrance, Palin may simply be waiting for the other candidates to say enough regrettable things to justify her entrance using the criteria stated above.

When each new candidate enters the race, he or she tours New Hampshire and Iowa stating positions and usually saying something either regrettable or downright stupid. Bachmann has so far provided the richest examples thus far, as has Rick Santorum who claimed in May that John McCain doesn’t understand torture.

The media, of course, endlessly exploits these gaffes and excoriates the new candidate for anything he or she has ever said that could be construed as controversial and/or unpresidential.

Eventually, media attention eventually moves from the new candidate to settle back on the group as a whole. By delaying her big announcement, Palin may simply be waiting for the excitement surrounding each candidate to burn out.

In doing so, she is also minimizing her time under intense scrutiny, which is essential, as Palin has proven herself to be more susceptible to gaffes than any other candidate.

Why is Palin going to support Perry when she knows full well that Bachmann is closer to the Tea Party (who Palin supports) than Perry is? I just don’t get this — (Unless of course Palin already acknowledges that Bachmann just can’t beat Obama ).

I think you have it right: Palin must feel that Bachmann cannot beat Obama but that Perry can -- or perhaps Palin feels she could be Perry's VP.

Letting the media choose our last president is the worst thing that ever happened to America.

Let’s not be that foolish again.

I agree, and to all of us who say they support Palin, and do not give $ until it hurts, then we did not really support her, we were just paying lip service.

Lowry is right, she will end up endorsing Perry. Sarah wanted to be the Paris Hilton of conservatives, and well she succeeded.

I’m not at all saying you let the media choose the president. I agree with you on that. What I am saying though is Palin has a very hard hill to climb, I’d even say worse than the other candidates thus far, if she were to win.

God you must have just done somersaults over the poll that had Ron Paul within 5% points of Obama I bet.

(sarcasm off)

You think Sarah Palin supporters pull for Ron Paul? That's pretty remarkably stupid. Then again, you also seem to feel that someone who hasn't even declared their candidacy yet should be polling even with the sitting president, so I guess abysmal stupidity is kind of a normal state for you, huh?

That's the problem with you Palin haters. She is nothing but a sweet, successful, kind, God fearing public servant who keeps all her campaign promises. Ergo, in order for you to dislike her, you have to resort to blatant irraionality. It makes you all come across as flaming a**holes.

But what do you care? You get to live with all that wonderful irrational venom. So you got that going for you... which is nice.

“You think Sarah Palin supporters pull for Ron Paul?”

No, I thought that you would be excited about any candidate beating Obama, as most American (I believe) should be.

every Palin backer should dig deep into their pockets and make a $1,000 contribution. They need to put their money where their heart is and ante up.

Boy, would I love to, but some of us can't stretch further than $100. That's where my family is starting. I'll donate more throughout the campaign, but a cool grand something beyond my reach.

“That’s the problem with you Palin haters.”

Oh get off the damned cross, I never attacked Palin and you damned well know it. Your post was EXACTLY the reason that Sarah is having problems with many on FR and even more in polls. It’s not her, it’s her sycophants that piss people off. IF she gets in and IF she polls in such a way that makes her a threat to Obama, I will support her.

In SPITE of people like you.

You’ve just posted the three most well-worn and tirelessly debunked left-wing talking points against Governor Palin.

Do you really think that you’re convincing anyone by posting them for the thousand and oneth time, or are you practicing the Goebels model of propaganda?

A sitting president versus a housewife in Alaska who isn't even running yet, and she's already within 17% of him?

Excuse me but she has been running for the last 2 years, she is a well known commodity and a failed governor (she quit). If Palin should get the nomination not only will she lose in a landslide we will fail to take the senate and may well lose the house. Palin, either you love her or you don't and there isn't enough in the love column to win.

LMAO!!!! Just be sure to save the last two cartridges for yourself and the dog. Neither of you want to endure what comes next. Trust me.

Cuz after Palin loses the White House, the Senate AND the House, she's going door to door infecting people with scoliosis, scabies and pancreatic cancer!

Save the last two if you love your dog, mannnn.....!!!

Really? I’m now somehow a Nazi because I merely pointed out it is difficult- not impossible but difficult- for Palin to win in the general? Wow. The fact of the matter is that, and this is all I have been saying, she is a pretty polarizing figure in American politics. You either love her or hate her. Very few are in between. Any candidate, to win the presidency must win over a majority of independents. When half of the country hates you this task becomes increasingly difficult. This is an issue that I think more than any of the other candidates currently running she would have to deal with. Is it impossible to overcome? No. Is it difficult? Yes. How about you actually get your act together and form coherent counter-arguments instead of resorting to name calling. I love people having different views of things but don’t appreciate it when they are either too lazy/stupid to articulate themselves and instead resort to Godwin’s Law. Actually show me why it’s (apparently) clear sailing for Palin, don’t just imply that I am a Nazi.

I was raised to love truth, search for truth, and think for myself before the internet.

“Godwin’s” law does not apply to serious discussions comparing current events to world history.

Palin’s an imperfect human like everyone, and it’s OK to disagree with her polices and question her potential success.

There is a difference between a respectable difference of educated opinions and rabid Palin hate.

She has done NOTHING do deserve the hate she gets. Palin hate is the result lying libtrash spreading propaganda and ignorant libtards accepting it.

Palin haters are the equivalent of NAZIS or the fools who believed their lies, enabled the Holocaust, and let their own country be destroyed.

This country better get polarized or die, because we have been suffering from Truth decay for too many decades now.

And what exactly does any of that has to do with what I wrote? All I wrote is that she will have a hard time winning over independents (which she will)... you seem to think that makes me a Nazi? You’re insane.
