Still Waiting for Sarah
The American Spectator ^ | 8/22/2011 | Robert Stacy McCain

Posted on 08/22/2011 4:05:38 AM PDT by BfloGuy

By Tuesday evening, then, I was half-convinced that Palin was stealthily moving toward an announcement. Then on Friday, she released a two-minute online video about her Iowa trip that everyone -- even the wizards who had previously been certain she wasn't running -- agreed looked like an honest-to-goodness campaign ad. The signals seemed clear enough that Karl Rove (who is clearly no Palin fanboy) declared she now "looks like a candidate, not a celebrity" and expressed his belief that Palin will get into the race. But if a certified Beltway elitist like Rove is now convinced she's running, wouldn't Palin be obliged to prove him wrong by not running? So I called up McCormick to ask if she believed that an announcement was in the works for the September 3 "Restoring America" rally, and the Iowa for Palin volunteer wasn't sure. "People think if [Palin's speech] doesn't say, 'Hi, I'm Sarah Palin, I'm running for president,' it will be not a good deal. But I really think she's going to give a monster speech."

The only two people who really know what Palin is planning, McCormick said, are Sarah and Todd. The rest of us will just have to wait until she announces. But her Iowa organizers are still convinced Palin is getting in -- a matter of "when," not "if," they say. Others may doubt, but the True Believers still believe.

Palin/Perry

I can see neither of them taking the second spot. They both have too big a personalities for that. It'll be all or nothing. IMO

“Strong Man!! When Sarah was attacked from all sides none of the Republican candidates came to her support. I wouldn’t want any of them in a fox hole with me. Sarah only.”

Damn Straight!!!, when no one was speaking out in the face of our Constitution being trashed by this fascist regime, Sarah spoke up and defended our freedoms. I want someone who cares as much as I do about this country and Sarah Palin does. No one else spoke up from the Republican side...gutless worms all.

When she was accused of murder ala AZ, where where the defenders from the Republican side??? NONE of the current GOP contenders spoke up...not a damn one. “Oh it was thought, let’s be prudent and stay quiet.”

NO!!! Not a one of these current contenders, none of the Pubbie establishment spoke up.

By GOD give me someone with a FIGHTING JUNKYARD DOG attitude to defend my American liberities...Someone who knows what the risks are and where we are in history, because some apparently don’t know or don’t care.

Some may opt out to vote for Palin in the primaries, so be it, but as for me and my house GIVE ME PALIN ALL THE WAY!!!

“doing something that intentionally skews the results may not always be illegal but it is never really honest.”

I see your point, but to play Devil’s advocate, one could also characterize get-out-the-vote efforts, negative advertising or other tried-and-true tactics to win an election as “skewing” the results that otherwise would occur. I don’t view those as “dishonest”: just playing the game by the rules set by others etc.

That said, I can understand your point that if public polling shows single-digit support, that is a better reflection of “true” voter sentiment than the results of a straw poll where the rules allow multiple voting. But electoral returns do not always follow the polls either and to do the degree they deviate, it could be because of some of the tried-and-true tactics I just cited. Given that no other candidates are insisting that their supporters limit themselves to one vote where multiple votes are legal, I would say Ron Paul would be shooting himself in the foot by unilaterally taking the high road on this issue.

Amen brother!

Add Michele Bachmann and Nikki Haley to that list of no-show defenders that were willing have her help when it was needed but hid when honor demanded that they defend her. Titanium spine my ass!

Your comments bear repeating.

How can Trademark announce on September 3rd when she has a "pay-to-see" event set for October?

What political candidate charges people to see him/her?

Well, the Palinistas are always claiming that Palin(™) does things her way. ;)

It's a smart thing you put the trademark symbol next to Palin's name in your post. Otherwise she might have sued, you know.

Because the possibility of some twisted entrepreneur using Palin's image and name as the brand for "toys" of dubious utility is just an obvious ruse for her trademarking her name. Her whole life history, everything about the way she has lived -- why, she's just a political reincarnation of Peggy Hopkins Joyce! -- confirms that the only reason she would trademark her name is for money, money, money, money.

Palin detractors are so devious and so desperate!

Mrs. Palin should stick to what she does very well, and that is Kingmaking.

Sarah Palin should stick to what she does best and that is serving the people and governing against the wishes of the political establishment elite. President Palin will be a president of the people.

Romney only hope is that Palin and Perry split the conservative vote and he able to steal the nomination.

Oh I'm sure Sarah Palin has taken that all into account before deciding if she will announce. The last thing Sarah Palin would want to be known as is the spoiler of 2012.

“Media doesn’t even go near Democrat gaffes”

If by chance they do mention it, it’s a short blurb on only one network. It’s as if the lib networks got together and drew straws to see which one would report it.

I’m sticking with Bachmann for now. The 3rd will be the do or die date for Palin.

Says who? That statement is so reflective of the instant gratification society that we live in today. When we don't get what we want when we want it, we pout like five year olds.

Fact is, politically speaking, this is the "stupid season". Look around you. Nothing good comes from running for president in the dog days of summer months before the first meaningful event (Iowa caucus). Nobody but a few political junkies are paying much attention. Meanwhile, all the media seems interested in doing right now is covering the gaffes...

"Happy Birthday Elvis!" Quite possible the Bachmann campaign will never recover from that one. Will anybody remember anything else Michelle Bachmann said or did this summer?

Palin is going to get into this race in her own good time. I give her credit for sitting out the "stupid season."

I agree, however Paul supporters take this to a much higher level. Just consider how long he has been in the spot light and the relatively small amount of support he actually garners. I like most of what he stands for but he is not a serious contender for anything other than a congressman.

Yes, I agree. The worst enemies to have are the ones who would stab you in the back and undermine you at every turn.

Damn the Republican establishment. Damn them all to hell.

We need to take over the Republican party and kick the Republican establishments worthless butts out and expose them for what they are: turncoats.
