Tea Party Group Launches Iowa Radio Blitz for Palin Event
RealClearPoltics ^ | Sunday August 21, 2011 | Scott Conroy

She may not be an official candidate at this point, but former Sarah Palin will hit the airwaves in Iowa on Monday, and it’s not going to cost the former Alaska governor a dime.

Tea Party of America -- a recently created group that is hosting a Palin-keynoted rally in the south-central Iowa town of Indianola on Sept. 3 -- is launching a major radio blitz in the nation’s first voting state to promote the prospective GOP presidential contender’s attendance at the event.

Charlie Gruschow, a co-founder of the group who confirmed the ad buy to RealClearPolitics, said anyone interested in attending the rally will also be directed to a website where they can reserve free tickets and sign up to receive updates.

Organizers hope that the promotional effort will help them gain a rough idea of the expected crowd, which is almost certain to number in the thousands.

“It’s just so difficult to estimate,” Gruschow said of gauging a head count for the rally. “There seems to be quite a bit of interest.”

Speculation that Palin might use the Labor Day weekend event to declare her candidacy has ramped up on cable news and the conservative blogosphere, but RCP has learned from sources close Palin that an official announcement is unlikely at that time.

[...]

Geddes, who was a field staffer for former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s 2008 campaign in Iowa before going on to work for former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s now defunct campaign this year, echoed other Iowa political observers in assessing the Palin volunteers’ dedication and quiet competence.

“They are very organized, and the team they have in place is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in this state before -- and I’m totally impressed by the way they’ve gone about it,” she said.

If ever there was a time, the time is now. I feel exactly the same way you do. I am trying to keep my hopes from outdistancing my common sense, but watching the other candidates only makes it more urgent. I just honestly to G-d don’t see anyone I could wholeheartedly support if Sarah doesn’t run. I don’t even want to think about it.

You make one helluva good point. If she doesn’t announce, then, all I ask that she say is “Keep your powder dry”.

I don’t disagree with what you’re getting at overall, but ‘devastate’ is way too strong a word. Upset, disappoint, yes. But anyone who believes strongly in what she represents will deal with a few days or weeks more. I refuse to think that any real supporter will bail on her because her actions do not fit their timetable.

I would far rather she played it smart and PO’d a few people than jumped too soon and ruined a winning strategy. Getting her in is all that matters. She can’t do anything at all until she is there.

Norm, she has to give the people something concrete to hold on to. We, here, are a kind of small band of diehards. But there are those who must have something in the hand sooner rather than later. The press doesn’t really affect US much, because we can talk to each other and pick it apart, but that isn’t the real world of people who do pay attention and the media is still powerful. You can’t underestimate them. Do so at your peril. Even the Conservative media has jumped into this with both feet. Mark Levin probably put the icing on the cake.
Devastate is not an exaggeration. It will have that effect on alot of people. Emotions are not to be taken lightly, and they are running at fever pitch right now.

No, they are nowhere near a fever pitch in the big picture. Remember that we live in a bubble here online. It is an echo chamber that is self perpetuating.

In all honesty, if Palin comes out on the 3rd and just ‘hints’ at a run without concrete proof that she will, do you seriously believe that when she announces (hypothetically) 2 weeks later that there are ‘supporters’ who will say “Nope, I’m not with her anymore because I wanted her to announce on my timetable and she did not.?

IMO, that’s a fairweather friend, not a supporter.

I put “Cult of Palin” in some of my posts as a smack to the PDSers so believe me when I tell you I am 110% in SPs camp. I have been a supporter of hers since 2007 and that ain’t changing regardless of when she decides to run. I believe in her ideas and the direction she has already stated for getting America on track. We have like 15 MONTHS worth of campaign ahead of us. 15 MONTHS! a couple weeks in that timeframe is nothing. if someone has so little faith in her that they are going to bail over a matter of an announcement date after all the indicators she has given that she will indeed run, I really do not know what to say.

Well, it won’t be me. I can’t even imagine her not running. As I told someone a little while ago, the thought of having to remove the greater evil and replace it with a lesser evil just makes me sick to my stomach. It’s just something I will not allow myself to contemplate.

Ever see the bumper sticker “Cthulhu 2012: Why vote for the lesser evil”? ;) Pretty well sums it up. All the ‘lesser evil’ just leads to greater evil eventually. Might as well skip the middle man. Or don’t vote for evil of any kind.

The people who say she’s waiting too long, she’s not organized...have no idea how many people are just waiting for the ‘go’ word. It’s an army just waiting to be sent out. I can’t wait for candidate Palin. She will mop the floor with Obama.

Speaking of armies and for a sense of perspective, there was a post/article the other day on FR talking about how the number of hunters licensed in (I think it was) Michigan or Wisconsin constituted the 8th largest army in the world.

I’ll bet there are a whole lot more Palin supporters across the country ready to rock than hunters in one state.

"Sun Tzu people. Sun Tzu."

Has anyone here ever heard of any other politician or candidate referred to in the same breath with Sun Tzu as often as Sarah Palin has?

"I would think she might actually want to announce in Wasilla where she started."

Woohoo!! I thought of that too, but figured it was just because I live in Wasilla, but that would make sense. Just think: right here in beautiful downtown Wasilly! I can like that.

Nah, most politicians aren’t that smart ;)

BTW, next time you’re at your local paper’s office, find the sales manager from Bullhead City, AZ and tell her I said hi...then run like hell as she’s no Palin fan ;)

I think if she told her supporters at the Iowa rally that she wanted to do that because the great folks of Wasilla, Alaska trustd her with their hearts and their votes or she might not be standing there today, they would love her for it. And she DID promise Bob and Mark they would be the first to know. The lady keeps her promises. People would understand that and it’s a sure winner. I hope she does it. Really.
AND it would sure be a switch from all the phony politics played in picking places to announce that I have seen from other pols. bachmann chose Iowa, not because she was born there, but because it was Iowa. Why not MN where the people elected her? perry chose SC. Why not Texas? If I was a Texan, I would feel insulted.
Anyway. that’s what I would do.

Pay attention to what the media is doing here!

NO ONE officially associated with the event has said Palin will announce. The media is setting it up for when she doesn’t announce on Sept. 3rd, that she’s a tease, not committed, not serious, etc. etc. etc. That’s all this is.

Governor Palin doesn’t play that game. We don’t play that game either.

It will be a great day. But not for the reason the media is disingenuously creating.

If any FReepers are serious about helping Sarah, there’s plenty to do right now through Organize4Palin.com, the official grassroots organization for Sarah.

EXCERPTED FROM THE COMING ANTHONY JAMES PIECE IN THE TEA PARTY TRIBUNE:

Scott Conroy writes in 'Real Clear Politics,'

"Geddes, who was a field staffer for former Arkansas Gov.

“It’s going to be a major upset if she gets in because I think these people are very underestimated.” < end of 'RCP' Coroy quote >

"This ragtag bunch of Americans, numbering in the tens-of-thousands across this great land as of this writing, would all be wearing tri-cornered hats and making and stockpiling their own wads and musketballs were this the year 1775. Despite that it's 2011, they're all still "Minutemen" in every sense of the term, and their dedication to the dire need for wresting this country from the debauched and illicit grasp of a disconnected authoritarian monarch and his cabal of elitist thugs and rumpswabs is no less fervent or determined than it was 236 years ago. They are also patriots, through and through, to a man (and woman)."

"Not many gave that first group of revolutionaries much of a chance of success either, none of which made much difference to that outcome, either. Because the final similarity between then and now is also the most signal, and of the greatest possible moment: Those original founding patriots and the ones who amass this very day in committed concentrations in virtually every State in the Union, both shared a firm belief in the Providence of Almighty God, Whose certain blessing and smiling favor they felt as surely as they do the righteousness of their cause, which they also rightly believe to be His Own."

"The numbers of naysayers and cynicists who will scoff at such a notion are dwarfed by the number to whom such Truth is sacrosanct. Our own Founders relied most heavily upon the absolute Truth of this notion, and it is this unshaken and unshakeable belief in what is Good and True and Right which will win the day for this modern-day movement, just as it took and held the day those long centuries past."

"What was good then remains good now. What was evil then is still evil today. It is knowing and acting upon that all-important difference between the two which marks indelibly the inevitable nature of that which is to come."

"Many over the centuries have romanticized that vibrant epoch of struggle and conquest, those most heady times in which the fates and fortunes of men and nations were forged by the steely will and steelier faith of the historical few to whom it was given to rise up and write with their own hands their names into the lasting history of one of Earth's greatest and most epic struggles for freedom and prosperity. Many have wished that they could have but stood among men and women of such timeless greatness... to have had the chance to perhaps be counted among that august number."

"Well, that chance is upon us again. A chance to transcend mere mortality to imortality with nothing more required other than the willingness to share in the belief of the rightness of our cause, and of the need to draw this line in these sands of time, and to make a stand now in order that we may pass along to the generations to come something better than that which we now hold. To be a modern-day midwife in the rebirth of The American Dream."

Tony James sent me this to proofread (I do that for him on weekends) with permissions to share it here on FreeRepublic. I'll be posting the entire article (as yet unnamed) on FreeRepublic shortly. Should be another classic Anthony James barnburner.

I could see Sarah calling Bob and Mark from the Podium and telling them on the phone, as she tells the crowd, that she is in.....totally a Sarah type of thing...she will keep her word but do it in a way that is unique....and may I say, there will be those in attendance that will start screaming the second she goes for that phone because they will know what’s happening....Do it Angel, let America know you are there for them....

God Bless and protect this wonderful lady.....our only hope

And I pray she does announce...the time will be ripe, I’m afraid another let down might not be good for her supporters
