Meet Ron Paul, the social conservative.
The Texas congressman, best known for his small-government, anti-Federal Reserve economic views, tacked in a different direction with his Ames address and delivered an uncharacteristically sharp denunciation of the practice of abortion. Continue Reading
Paul began his remarks by acknowledging that his campaign is "identified with the cause of liberty." But, he continued: "There is something that precedes liberty and that is life."
"The prime reason that government exists in a free society is to protect liberty, but also to protect life. And I mean all life," Paul said.
The libertarian-leaning presidential candidate, who is an obstetrician by training, has long opposed abortion rights, but has not emphasized it in his presidential campaigns.
In his speech this afternoon, Paul described himself as "very strong right to life" and claimed that when he was in training in the 1950s, "It was assumed everybody was pro-life and abortions werent to be done."
By the 1960s, Paul said, that was changing. He recalled that physicians were "defying the law in doing abortions," and told a bracing story of seeing doctors deliver a baby via Caesarean section and then "put it in a bucket in the corner of the room and let it die and pretended nobody heard it."
"We cannot play God and make those decisions. All life is precious," Paul said. "You have to understand where that liberty and that life comes from. It does not come from the government. It comes from our creators."

I am a serial killer of fish... some life needs to die..
Perhaps the guy thought HR1096 would make for more effective results than HR748 et al, inasmuch as the former reserves such legislation for individual states.
Life, liberty, property. He’s always consistent. God bless him and may this country wake up.

I rest my case.
Your link to NRLC doesn't work so I went myself to their site myself.
Ron Paul's rated at 75% "with us" 6% "unscored" and 16% "against us" (Votes tab)
You claimed he was rated 56%.
HR1096 bears out plainly the substance of this individual’s approach, not to mention his words on the subject in general. Shame on us all for stooping so low we have to micro-legislate something as fundamental as the right to life. Thank God for candidates of *any* stripe who at least get this one right.
If the 75, 6 & 16 Ron Paul numbers are individual votes scored by NRLC, 75 of 97 (75+6+16) is 77%. It's still clear Ron Paul is not rated 56% by NRLC.
The 19 of 19 would rate Bachmann 100%.
The article you linked does not specify which bill the two congressmen were introducing. I’d like to see and read the bill, if you would please provide a link. Thank you.
Some people forget that Dan Rather was undone by experts on FR that knew every little detail about type fonts and print balls on the IBM Selectric typewriter. Such expertise in a citizen army (wearing pajamas no less) is not easy to fool.
Stay vigilant!
The fact that Politico, which recently has drifted off into MSNBC-style attack “journalism” suddenly loves Ron Paul should tell you all you need to know of him.
Is Ron Paul really pro-life? He opposed Congressional legislation outlawing the transportation of minors by non-parents to bring them to states where they didn’t need parental or judicial consent to get abortions. That’s right folks: Ron Paul believes your STATE-FUNDED TEACHERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO SMUGGLE YOUR KIDS OUT OF STATE TO GET ABORTION.
How’s that for small government?
How could a libertarian possibly favor state employees smuggling kids out-of-state to get abortions? Insanely, Ron Paul argues the Tenth Amendment prevents Congress from interfering.
WRONG, RON PAUL.. Hideously, profanely, stupidly (or simply deceitfully) wrong. This is actually the exact sort of thing that the interstate commerce clause was created for: the federal government regulating the trade of goods or services (in this case, abortion provision) because by their very nature, the states are incapable of enforcing their own just laws.
Ron Paul and Cynthia McKinney... they make different speeches, but their actions are all too often the same.
Ron Paul voted against a bill which would allow seniors to avoid health care plans which pay for abortions He abstained from the Unborn Child Pain Awareness bill, helping it to fail He voted against a bill to prevent state workers and others from bringing other people’s children across state lines to obtain abortions in avoidance of judicial or parental notification laws and he voted three times to weaken the proposal He voted against providing legal protections for unborn children killed in violence He failed to vote against denying federal funds to Planned Parenthood He voted against a ban on human cloning.
THESE ARE NOT THE VOTES OF SOMEONE WHO CONSIDERS ABORTION STATE-SANCTIONED MURDER.

Don’t bother. On threads like these, the facts don’t mean a damn thing.
Do me a favor bucketmouth, follow someone else around with your slackjawed backwater comments.
You continue to make false accusations or try following me around here, you won't like whats coming.
What a whiny little "man." What are you going to do? Fart in my general direction? Stick pins in a voodoo doll? Please, take your best shot.
Don't ever tell me where not to post unless your name ends in either "Robinson" or "Moderator." If I see something I want to comment on, I'll do it, you and your small appendage be damned.
Now go run to mommy and tell her that someone was mean to you. Maybe she'll put Teletubbies on for you.
"[W]hile Roe v. Wade is invalid, a federal law banning abortion across all 50 states would be equally invalid."-- Ron Paul, Federalizing Social Policy
"No State shall deprive any person of life without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
-- The Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution
Those are his personal beliefs.
But what has Ron Paul said HE as president would do to stop abortion?
I didn't suggest you can't post anywhere you please. Once again, you have difficulty understanding words.
You already directed your name calling at me, on this thread and elsewhere, in addition to pulling your race card etc.
If you continue making false baseless accusations, directed at me you'll be subjected to the same. Anyone can make false accusations and call names. You best direct it at someone else.
So we have a clear understanding, I won't take that BS from you, or anyone else.
What a delusional little tool. You think you’re a badass or actually “important.” You want an enemy? Fine. I’m not your only one judging by the FReepmail I’ve gotten regarding you.
Bite me, Bruce.
