Rick Perry's "treason" comments are drawing sharp criticism from a wide range of political observers and talking heads, among them Karl Rove.
"You don't accuse the chairman of the Federal Reserve of being a traitor to his country. Of being guilty of treason," Rove, who has clashed with Perry before, told Fox News (via TPM). "And, suggesting that we treat him pretty ugly in Texas You know, that is not, again a presidential statement."
Rove continued: "If Rick Perry were to be elected president he'd be saddled with Ben Bernanke who has a term. He's an independent chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, appointed by president and confirmed by Congress and serves for a term and the president couldn't even ask him to resign. So, this is I hope this is not the first of sort of over the top statements."
Politico has a roundup of reactions from some other prominent George W. Bush allies, none of whom had nice things to say about Perry's comments.

” I like what I’ve seen from Bachmann over the years. I like Cain very much.
I do not like Romney, Perry, or Paul.”
Hmmm.....sounds like I posted this : )
Are you sure it wasn’t Karl Marx? Because they are starting to sound alike.
I hadn’t thought of Perry in conjunction with this, so I’m glad you mentioned here. Good point.
LOL, yes you’re right. I missed that.
Proofreading my own text is really tough for me, because I know what I meant and I read sentences more than words.
Good call.
Thank God Rove isn’t in power anymore. Guy has become useless.
What a dumb statement by Perry. Wow.
I told people here on FR earlier this morning. The elites now have it in for Perry, because he dared to say something negative about the Fed.
This is why the press has decided to ignore Ron Paul.
This is why the press ignores McCotter.
All Hail the Fed. We’re all supposed to worship every word the Fed pronounces, even when they’re a) proven wrong, b) engage in fraud, c) engage in bailouts well beyond their charter.
For the elites, questioning the Fed is heresy, and we all know what happens to heretics, don’t we.
When I responded to this the first time, I said:
“I hadnt thought of Perry in conjunction with this, so Im glad you mentioned here. Good point.”
What I gleaned from what you said, was that you thought Romney and Perry were quite a bit alike.
I intended to respond with, “I hadnt thought of Romney in conjunction with this, so Im glad you mentioned it here. Good point.”
I’m so confused... LOL
>>>He’s an independent chairman of the Federal Reserve Board, appointed by president and confirmed by Congress and serves for a term and the president couldn’t even ask him to resign.
Bernacke will end up the most hated man in the U.S. if he can’t find a way to unwind all the expansion in the Adjusted Monetary Base before it starts to circulate in the economy without causing The Great Depression times 3. Right now, Bernacke is called merely incompetent by many in the media (do a Google search for ‘bernacke incompetent’).
Romney and Perry are both globalist frauds. Buy one fraud, get one free : )
Fair nuff, wasn’t trying to be a smart a$$, just thought there was some new term out there I wasn’t familiar with.
I'm not sure sure about the smart part.
You ever hear the saying those who can, do, those who can't, teach....
His entire career, has been as an academic, most of his income, comes from book royalties. How is he so smart, if, as a financial "expert" and economics whiz, the guy couldn't get a job on wall street or find a way to become wealthy by practicing what he preaches/teaches ?
Memo to Tokyo? I’m with Perry on this one. Bernanke is just another crook who should be in Leavenworth with Timmy Geitner. We should have tarred and feathered Ben for giving half the TARP money to foreign banks.
“The Bank of the US was a farce to begin with. The same people that put money in, took it out via another pocket.”
So is the Federal Reserve.
Your post reminds me of Urkel’s fatal flaw. It is not that he is incompetent. It is that he is incompetent AND surrounds himself with incompetents. Thy are so useless that about the only thing any of them can do is get elected mayor of Chicago, and that’s not saying much.
No offense taken at all. I just wish I would have picked up on that sooner, so I wouldn’t have wasted so much of your time.
Take care.
Shut up, Carl.
I’ve been sick of you for a long time. Fox continues to denigrate their ‘news’ channel by displaying you as a favored brain trust guest.
First, Rove is flatly wrong: the President can ask anyone he wants to resign, whether it is the Fed Chairman, a Supreme Court Justice or the Emporer of Japan.
Second, as far as I can tell, it is an open question whether the President can fire the Chairman of the Fed. I think that the courts would find that the President does have the authority to fire the Chairman "for cause". In practice, what would constitute sufficient "cause" would be a "political question" that the courts would probably not second-guess the President on. FDR fired a member of the SEC and that was overturned by the Supreme Court (after the guy had died) but I am not sure that decision answers this question exactly. In any event, Professor Rove should maybe study the law some more before claiming to opine definitively on it.
