I just committed myself 15 mins ago. My first round donation is done. Was always looking for the winnable conservative candidate with extensive executive experience. Between Romney and Perry, choice is clear. Only other possible entrant is Palin and she interested me as a reform minded GOP Governor who was a VP candidate. While she may enter the race and be more to the right of Perry, I am not looking for the "right most" candidate.

I really don’t see how someone can simultaneously support Perry and oppose Romney.

They’re pretty much the same kind of establishment RINO, IMO.

Either of them is fine, if all you want is to have your team oversee the collapse of the federal government, rather than the “other guys.”

America’s only hope is to elect a president and Congress which is not afraid to make radical changes, in the direction of Constitutional government.

First things first. I don't know what charm school you went to but many people would find this a little insulting:

Second, I simply meant the Gov. of TX powers are more limited than most (maybe all?) other Governors. It is widely held that the Lt. Governor has much more power.

I haven't said anything about Perry except he has things in his background that concern me. Bush concerned me as well and he wasn't the conservative a lot of people expected him to be. He wasn't all bad, but he could have been better. Of course virtually anyone would be better than Obama, but we are a ways away from the general election so I don't have put all my eggs in the Perry basket yet. I still have the ability to do my research and decide who to support.

I was very glad to do a little research and be able to understand why Perry supported Gore in 1988 for President (and it doesn't bother me particularly now, after doing a little reading, so when THAT comes up I can make the case why it's not a big deal, unless it is a pattern--I still want to look into why he thought Guillani was a good idea tho).

I also understand that he did say that parents could decide on the HPV vaccine (and I"m not an anti vaccine zealot, altho I think parents should be able to decide).

And you need to stop insulting people who don't really have their minds made up. The fastest way to get people to not support your candidate is to anger them. You may not think your post to me was insulting, but it sure was. Present your case refute their points if you think their wrong, but don't make them feel small and stupid (even if you think they are). I have been going out and researching Perry, and so far, most of what I've found (except on immigration and the support of Guilliani) has been not what I expected, it's been a pleasant surprise. But his stance on amnesty will be a huge issue for me.

That's not really a logical comparison. Reading a book on Catholicism is not the same as being sent to Catholic school and going to mass on Thursdays as part of your curriculum. I studied Mandarin Chinese and PRC order of battle in the Army, for that matter. That doesn't mean the U.S. Army expected me to embrace Maoist/Leninist thought. Sometimes, you have to know what your dealing with in detail, though.

Other times, it's just political inoculation. Give yourself a fig leaf of tolerance, while avoiding the more far reaching mistakes of your predecessors. Please reference my posts in 364 and 367 if that's your concern.

You may already know about this, but in case you don’t, you may want to study this House Resolution and let your congressman know if you want it carried further.

It was introduced by Representative Steve King in January of 2011 but has not been put up for a vote as yet.

Summary

This bill would eliminate birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented immigrants in the U.S. Current U.S. law automatically recognizes any person born on American soil as a natural born citizen. Under the bill, only children with at least one parent who is a U.S. citizen, a legal permanent resident, or an undocumented immigrant serving in the military would be considered citizens.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘Birthright Citizenship Act of 2011’.

SEC. 2. CITIZENSHIP AT BIRTH FOR CERTAIN PERSONS BORN IN THE UNITED STATES.

(a) In General- Section 301 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1401) is amended—

(1) by inserting ‘(a) IN GENERAL- ’ before ‘The following’;

(2) by redesignating subsections (a) through (h) as paragraphs (1) through (8), respectively; and

(3) by adding at the end the following:

‘(b) Definition- Acknowledging the right of birthright citizenship established by section 1 of the 14th amendment to the Constitution, a person born in the United States shall be considered ‘subject to the jurisdiction’ of the United States for purposes of subsection (a)(1) if the person is born in the United States of parents, one of whom is—

‘(1) a citizen or national of the United States;

‘(2) an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence in the United States whose residence is in the United States; or

‘(3) an alien performing active service in the armed forces (as defined in section 101 of title 10, United States Code).’.

(b) Applicability- The amendment made by subsection (a)(3) shall not be construed to affect the citizenship or nationality status of any person born before the date of the enactment of this Act.

REALLY? The parents don't have to pay for elementary, middle, high school education. Chances are they had subsidized meal plan while in public schools with free health benefits. Then accepted into college as illegal alien on a reduce plan while some American student from another state has to pay FULL TUITION. Some of the reasons why we have illegal aliens flocking to the states.
