President Barack Obama leaves the White House on Monday for a three-day bus trip, talking job creation at small towns across the Midwest in hopes of distancing himself from the "partisan brinksmanship" he says has poisoned the economy.
The trip isn't likely to be without bumps. Polls find that the partisan feud over raising the debt ceiling, the stock market gyrations and a stubborn unemployment rate have left Americans more pessimistic about the economy and their future than at any time this year. Republicans already have accused Obama of mixing policy with politics by barnstorming in the battleground region - at taxpayer expense.
But White House advisers said it was a chance for the president - who spent most of last month trapped in Washington with lawmakers blaming each other for the debt impasse - to hit the reset button and connect with ordinary Americans in a bus that could roll into small towns, rather than Air Force One.
"Democrats, independents and Republicans expect to see their president of the United States outside of Washington, D.C., out from behind the podium, spending time talking to the American people in their communities," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said.
Obama appears to be trying out a campaign theme by blaming Congress - without a direction mention of Republicans - for the bitterness that led to an eleventh-hour debt limit agreement, and Earnest said the president was expecting to hear more anger on the road.
"The president does anticipate that he'll detect a little frustration about the dysfunction in Congress, and the strident position of some in Congress to put their partisan affiliation ahead of the country," he said.

Well done! Pretty much says it all...what a terrible impression that photo delivers....yuck!
There needs to be a broom and shovel brigade formed where ever he stops and lining the highways - To Sweep Up The BS He Will Be Spewing.
It’s going to be a hellava’ rough three days days for the people he has thrown under the bus.
It’s yours to use. Or anyone for that matter.
Remember when Kerry and Edwards went to a Wendy’s to share a meal with the little people while running? Then went in their Prevost and had catered meals?
Ya think obammy will take along several chefs’ or eat at In & Out Burger?
And will the mooch be along or will she cost us millions going off to the Riviera?
Expect to see plenty of bussed-in union members and the like praising Obama's performance and blaming Bush / Congress for the recesssion.
Come to think of it, that's a good point.
Are we in a recession, so we can blame Bush and the Tea Party and Congress?
Or are we in recovery summer so we can praise Obama and Geithner?
Quick! Where's the latest memo?
Cheers!
Been TRAPPED on the GOLF COURSES.
Nephew was getting married on Veterans day at one of my old bases, Fort Myers. Had to enter at the gate where the Iwo Jima Memorial is and had to go through the G.W. Bridge roundabout on the Virginia side.
In a cab driven by a guy from India, my wife and 18 year old son.
as we come up to the roundabout a cop stops traffic and sure enough here comes a 15 vehicle convoy taking Clinton to Arlington where he is going to place some flowers at the Unknown Soldier Memorial.
I jumped out of the cab as the entire motorcade came by I was standing there with both hands sending the prevert a message.
Cop was laughing.
I went back to my cab and got in where the driver kept repeating “oh my GOD they are going to revoke my visa”.

I agree grey_whiskers. The game played by the Marxists is war where the end justifies the means. No matter how it's dressed up, it's an assault on America's freedom. There's so much to hammer on here with this administration. |
Given his endless vacations and weekend recreating, I’d say that he is very in touch with every day American (or illegals) in the service industry.
No mention of the full size first lady on this trip?
She had a very important vacation to attend?
She is not much of a vote getter?
No kidding...and he was there last year, also.
Unless that bus is super sonic, I can't see where he could stop in very many towns in 3 days, even if it were a one-way trip and he plans on flying back after the last stop.
