Perry '01 - 'Fox's vision for an open border is a vision I embrace'
The Washington Times ^ | June 21, 2011 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 08/13/2011 6:23:25 PM PDT by Do Not Make Fun Of His Ears

Texas Governor Rick Perry, Republican, reportedly being pushed by Texas lawmakers to throw his hat into the GOP presidential ring, very often touts his background on border security, but what about the Mr. Perry's past remarks and actions about immigration and the border? He is currently supporting a bill that was just passed by the Texas Senate that would give greater power to police officers to question those who are detained about their legal status. The AP reports:

The 19-12 vote early Wednesday came after nearly eight hours of emotional debate in which Democrats railed against the bill as racist and a tool to harass Latinos.

The bill pushed by Republican Gov. Rick Perry now goes to the House for consideration, where it is expected to easily pass. The Republican super-majority in the House passed a similar version during the regular session.

Perry and supporters say the bill will help police fight crime committed by illegal immigrants. But opponents, including law enforcement chiefs in the state's largest cities and immigrant rights activists, say the measure will allow rogue officers to target Hispanics.

However, Governor Perry appeared to be talking differently about the border when he first came to office. In a 2001 Border Summit speech, Governor Perry described to fellow border governors and others in attendance the amount of poverty :

"President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity. It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity."

The dialect isn’t right though. It’s more that Warner Brothers rooster than Texan. I haven’t spoken Texan since Wilshire elementary school, San Anton, many moons ago.

Yep, I got my fill of that in `08: `Mitt is the only electable candidate,’ `the perfect is the enemy of the good,’ the `settle for less’ BS, “Why, Rudy’s a hoot!” etc.. Maybe we can practice unanimity by rooting for Perry while we wait for Palin to announce. Use him as a stalking horse.

You see that pointy tip on the right hand side of that diamond where the number "100" is, Clairity?

Ironically, Palin is further to the left on the same diamond:

I love how the Perrybots never address Perry’s 2010 speech to the racist reconquista group, la raza. The fact that he thinks they are a legitimate group is just sickening.

Rick Perry sounds like a “compassionate conservative,” and we all know where they lead us.

I saw somebody on some thread, might have been this one, who actually said if we don’t elect Perry then Obama will be President again.

Total hysteria and panic. They’ve lost all capacity to reason.

Sounds like YOU have gone overboard for Perry. Go ahead and vote for Bush lite. Don’t complain if he wins and gives us more KRAP that you want!

Quite a few illegals hangin’ board down there?

Well, we are a border state. We're the first line of invasion from the south.

Wasn’t he a big supporter of the Trans Texas Corridor, which is key for the North American Union, allowing transportation between Mexico, U.S. and Canada?

Wasn’t he responsible for young girls getting that horrible vaccination?

I don’t know too much about the GOV. of Texas, but there sure seem to be some red flags....

How did Perry gather so many ZOMBIES so quickly???

It's because Sarah hasn't announced yet, and some folks saw Rick looking to get in and thought, "Oh wow, the Republican Governor of Texas? He's got to be a safe bet!"

It helps that so few know all that much about his actual record in government. The screaming you hear in the background is all of those starry-eyed folks complaining about all of the recent postings of Perry's record on the forum.

Unfortunately, that's the way it works (thank goodness). We need to critically examine every person who wants to run for president with a jaundiced eye. Perry's about to get the anal examination of his life. I just hope he's prepared for it. It ain't gonna be comfortable.

I know Rush was plugging him ...I cringed...

Same here. I nearly had a physical reaction when I heard him glowing about Perry. My head filled with blinking question marks when I heard that.

Good post.

It disheartens me to see Freepers continuously ignore Reagan’s 11th Commandment, line up the circular firing squad and become the unruly mob Ann Coulter warns about.

Try hiring a roofing or concrete company in Oklahoma. Good luck finding a crew that speaks English.

I've invested the last 30 years of my life in the construction trades, and it kills me to see what our federal government has allowed to happen to this once great industry.

Seen any young Americans apprenticing in the trades lately? When's the last time you heard rock and roll blasting on a construction site?

I can't go on......I get too upset talking about this.

There are certain nitwits who entertain the ludicrous notion that they are going to “shame” or “browbeat” us into not examining their candidate with a critical eye.

Strange, isn't it? If I recall correctly, that's exactly how the leftoids reacted when we inquired about Obama's background. Scary, huh?

Leme guess, who has less chance at actually getting the nomination than ronpaul or tpaw or newty or even santorim, must be Herman.

Actually, and not meaning to make light of the man, because Cain does have really good common sense conservative ideas and conviction, its just the last non-politicans to be President were George Washington, Grant and Ike and it ain’t gonna happen again in 2012, no matter how much any of you all smear Perry.
