Well, we’re clearly out of touch with reality if that reality group includes only Barry Zero, the ASSCLOWN posse and the SEIU........

Unfortunately, Republicans have learned that bad things happen when they get flexible.

“”In Ames, Iowa last night the candidates were asked if they would refuse to accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases. All eight presidential contenders raised their hands.””

This was a bad question. The question should have asked if they would accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of PHONY spending cuts to REAL tax increases.

The RINO Republican Congress just did it. So I am glad no Presidential candidate did it.

The one thing that Republicans are horrible at doing is explaining the context of why they don't want tax increases. They simply knee-jerk say “no tax increases” and wait for the applause to come in. They have to explain that the “rich” already pay over two-thirds of all taxes, and that spending has increased to historical highs of 24% of GDP. And that if we reduced spending back to 19% or 20% of GDP most of the deficit would be gone. No one says that or if they do, they don't say it enough. That makes them look rigid to the wishy-washy middle, who are desperate for everyone to “get along.”

Which American People?

Those who pay taxes on their hard-earned income - or those who suck at the teat of tyranny?

The less money you give to an addict the less damage he can do to himself and his family due to poor usage of it. The government is addicted to spending we must curb that addiction and change it’s behavior. This is a spending and behavior problem and tough love is necessary sooner rather than later. It is killing our country and has to stop because we love our country and do not wish to see it destroyed.

For a great many Americans, the really big issue is JOBS.

I'd like to get an explanation for how squeezing additional tax revenue out of Employers is going to increase their willingness to take on more risk, expand, and hire more people.

I think Americans understand that more taxation will just put more pressure on potential employers. And that's not what we need.

... out of touch with Americans by saying they would refuse to accept tax increases as part of a debt deal.

The White House is spot on! Personally, I think that it's appalling that I was able to purchase name brand diapers for my child AND pay my bills AND feed my family without the need for welfare. I am also guilty of having $3.22 left over from July's budget

Principal Deputy Press Secretary

What exactly is a Principal Deputy Press Secretary?

So ABC bases their "news" on a quote from a WH Insider..."A worker inside the WH claims that no tax increases just is NOT where the American people are on this issue..." BS!!!!!

I have never in my life witnessed anything like this White House. They never change their tune.

No matter how many times it is patiently documented, mathematically and economically that increasing taxes on corporate jets would raise only enough money to run the Federal government for a few hours... but kill thousands of jobs in the process, and no matter how many times it is pointed out that even if you confiscated 100% of the income of all those "rich" people, it would only cover a third of a year's budget (and immediately destroy most private investment, cost hundreds of thousands of jobs and crash the stock market), they continue to blithely offer the same focus-group sound bites, as though nothing had ever been said to contradict them.

All of which serves to underwrite my belief that Obama and his Administration are intentionally trying to destroy our economy.

1. why does this guy think he can speak for the American people?

2. weren't tax breaks for jets part of the stimulus package...$ now they're bad?

3. this guy (& the White House) are more than welcome to put out a specific plan that shows 10 times the cuts...

What it proves is that the American people are on to Obama’s lies.

They know:
Tax increases will kill more jobs and prevent employers from expanding.
Tax Increases would not provide more Federal revenue.
Obama would pretend they add revenue and then spend those false revenues for more phoney gov’t programs, simply to buy votes.

What these people cannot seem to understand is that there is not enough Tax money to satisfy all the spending along with the interest on the Debt that can be had.
We can tax all incomes above $25,000 100%, seize all retirement accounts and any others monies left out of all of wealth of this country that has been spent on redistribution for the last 50 years and it still would not be enough.
Once all of the last vestiges of wealth is spent, then what?
We have literally spent Trillions upon Trillions on Progressive Social Programs since Lyndon Johnson first put the Great Society on us in 1965 and we have really nothing to show for it.
We have allowed the Government and the Politicians to spend us dry and there isn't anything left.
We are truly on the verge on a Great Default. Nothing the Congress or Administration does now will divert this Catastrophe.
No one we elect next year and can stop what will happen.
All we can really hope for is that when all is said and done then we start over and try not to make the same mistakes.
Of course that is predicated on what type and kind of political system we will have and does this country survive intact or will we breakup and become Balkanized.
This truly may be the last real election and here we are with a group of candidates that have no clue or more to the point offer any truth to the reality of the situation.

If I had been one of the candidates, I would have said, “Sure. Let’s have the 10 parts spending cuts immediately. As in now, not next budget year, but right now. Then we’ll have the 1 part tax increase promised over the next ten years, if future congresses don’t decide to do something else. And a new president in a year and a half doesn’t veto it. Oh, and most of the tax raises won’t start until about three years from now. Oh, and they won’t actually be tax increases, but smaller cuts than what I wanted to give them. So even though the rates will be less than they are now, it’s a tax raise, because the rates were going to be even less. In fact, I’ll go ahead and institute one tax increase now. The capital gains tax will increase from 15% currently to 5% beginning tomorrow. I say ‘increase’ because I wanted to make it 0%. So, that’s a 5% increase in the capital gains tax rate.”
