Reacting to last nights GOP presidential debate, the White House said today that the 2012 candidates proved themselves to be out of touch with Americans by saying they would refuse to accept tax increases as part of a debt deal.
In Ames, Iowa last night the candidates were asked if they would refuse to accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases. All eight presidential contenders raised their hands.
Thats clearly not where the American people are, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today. That basically puts these candidates in a position of not even asking corporate jet owners to assume one-tenth of the burden that were asking college students to bear
that they would not even consider asking millionaires and billionaires to bear one-tenth of the burden that middle-class families would be asked to bear in a deficit reduction package.

Should read: "GOP Candidates Inflexibility On Tax Increases Shows They Are Out Of Touch With American Media"
Well, we’re clearly out of touch with reality if that reality group includes only Barry Zero, the ASSCLOWN posse and the SEIU........
Unfortunately, Republicans have learned that bad things happen when they get flexible.
“”In Ames, Iowa last night the candidates were asked if they would refuse to accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases. All eight presidential contenders raised their hands.””
This was a bad question. The question should have asked if they would accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of PHONY spending cuts to REAL tax increases.
The RINO Republican Congress just did it. So I am glad no Presidential candidate did it.
Or....ABC is out-of-touch with Americans?
Which American People?
Those who pay taxes on their hard-earned income - or those who suck at the teat of tyranny?
A good point you raise, and something everyone should remember. When the media or the Democrats say ‘America’, they aren’t talking about hardworking Americans who have jobs and pay taxes, they’re talking about ‘the ruling elite and their subordinates’.
The less money you give to an addict the less damage he can do to himself and his family due to poor usage of it. The government is addicted to spending we must curb that addiction and change it’s behavior. This is a spending and behavior problem and tough love is necessary sooner rather than later. It is killing our country and has to stop because we love our country and do not wish to see it destroyed.
I'd like to get an explanation for how squeezing additional tax revenue out of Employers is going to increase their willingness to take on more risk, expand, and hire more people.
I think Americans understand that more taxation will just put more pressure on potential employers. And that's not what we need.
Journalists continue to show they are out of touch with Tax Payers.
Seems like if the republicans fail to capitulate on sny spending measures they are trying to “kill granny or some baby”.
Quit spending MY MONEY you fools.
The White House is spot on! Personally, I think that it's appalling that I was able to purchase name brand diapers for my child AND pay my bills AND feed my family without the need for welfare. I am also guilty of having $3.22 left over from July's budget
Except somehow the elites like Soros, Reid, Pelosi et al tend to get exempted from anything they write or advocate....what does that tell you?
No matter how many times it is patiently documented, mathematically and economically that increasing taxes on corporate jets would raise only enough money to run the Federal government for a few hours... but kill thousands of jobs in the process, and no matter how many times it is pointed out that even if you confiscated 100% of the income of all those "rich" people, it would only cover a third of a year's budget (and immediately destroy most private investment, cost hundreds of thousands of jobs and crash the stock market), they continue to blithely offer the same focus-group sound bites, as though nothing had ever been said to contradict them.
All of which serves to underwrite my belief that Obama and his Administration are intentionally trying to destroy our economy.
Is ABC news capable of understanding a graph of government spending?
2. weren't tax breaks for jets part of the stimulus package...$ now they're bad?
3. this guy (& the White House) are more than welcome to put out a specific plan that shows 10 times the cuts...
