On Saturday Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce whether or not he will run for president. Many now believe he will.
Perry is eager to separate himself from his predecessor in the Texas governors mansion, George W. Bush who is unpopular with both tea party Republicans and the American electorate as a whole. But one area where Perrys positions are virtually identical to Bush is immigration.
When I ran for president in 2008, I tried to pressure the Republican candidates to take a hard line against illegal immigration. For this, Perry called me a racist.
When he first took office as governor in 2001, Perry went to Mexico and bragged about his law that granted the children of undocumented workers special in-state tuition at Texas colleges, the first state in the nation to do so.
The message is simple, Perry concluded, educacion es el futuro, y si se puede. Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavezs slogan) yes we can.]
Just a few weeks ago, Perry defended his decision to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He said to punish these young Texans for their parents actions is not what America has always been about.
Perry opposed Arizonas tough anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070. I have concerns, he explained, with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas.
He spoke out last year against using E-Verify to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs as state employees, who get their paychecks from the taxpayers. He insisted it would not make a hill of beans difference.
Numbers USA, a group that supports immigration control, gives Perry a D- for his positions supporting amnesty, open borders, and opposing border security.

Do you really believe that statement? Or just in this particular case?
Take a Democrat controlled congress and Republican President. Do you think that still holds true? No vetoes? No Recess appointment around a stonewalling congress? No executive orders?
Yep
Well, NO, the House and the Senate do not have the power to overturn his ExO, they just wrote their own bill, which had no effect whatsoever on what Perry did with his ExO, which was put the decision about Gardasil in the hands of the parents, and for those that wanted it had to be a mandated vaccine to get Medicaid and insurance companies to cover it, SHOULD THE PARENTS WANT IT.
Oh give me a break...
In 1996 when Pat Buchanan won the New Hampshire Primary and polls showed he was slightly ahead of RINO Dole in South Carolina, Bennett said he would leave the party if we nominated the conservative instead of the RINO.
He might as well backed Clinton since the only difference between Clinton and Dole is Dole never raped anyone we know of.
He backed McCain in 08 and again in10.
His endorsement should be a red flag to conservatives.
Don’t be so critical, post 11 makes as much sense as all the other Perry Derangement Coyotes rushing to this thread.
You are clueless, too. I'm tired of org.whodat's constant childish, misleading attacks...if you are familiar with his constant attack and defend it, you have a problem as well.
It has increase since then from when he signed the Amnesty bill.. No excuses.. To you Reagan was a RINO since he signed an Amnesty bill..
“The Governor did not pull an end run against the Legislature, he exercised authority that they had delegated to him.
The Legislature gave the authority to the Executive Branch. The Governor is the Executive Officer, he appoints and runs the Exec. Branch. He gave an order to the Director of the Department of State Health Services.”
I am familiar with all of that, and in fact support vaccinantion for HPV. Here is what you are missing. The people are fed up with being ordered around by their government, state and federal, local and judicial, by executive order. Just like the TTC, there was only an appearance od public input, and people are protective of their daughters. People hate toll roads. Yet these things were done against the popular will of the people. The process of public discussion and input was circumvented for “their own good”. They were treated like children. And they don’t like it!
Please just think this over.
I worked for Ronald Reagan in his Century City offices . And YOU are a RINO, who uses Saul Alinsky tactics to boost your RINO candidate
” As far as Im concerned, anyone willing to vote for a pro amnesty candidate may as well follow their heart and vote for Obama. Theyll destroy the country as surely as Obama will anyway. “ FReeper Cripplecreek
Jim what is your take?
How about the trashing of Reagan to promote Perry? Where have we seen that before recently?
That is fine for the primaries - you should support the person that is closest to your views. But what will you do if he is the nominee? Will you support him against Obama, or will you stay home because your preferred candidate was not nominated.
And I wish people would stop saying candidates are "not true conservatives" because you disagree with some of their positions. Also be careful of the term RINO - if yuo look at what a lot of elected Republicans actually stand for, they are not very conservative, so Republican is not synonymous with conservative. In some cases, "RINO" might be a GOOD thing, if they are actually more conservative than your average Republican...
Is 'rescind' more legally correct instead of 'overturn'?
Whatever you call it, overturn, rescind, here's a chronology regarding Texas HB 1098. You can read about it for yourself, along with some background info, on the HSLDA website:
Perry = Texas, Texas = Bush (W)
Perry = compassionate conservative, = Bush (W)
Perry = no border fence, = Bush (W)
Perry = Bush (W)
NO MORE BUSHs or Bush wanna bees.
Palin/West 2012 accept no substitutes.
You can certainly criticize Perry and any other candidate here. Just try to keep it to issues and not call names (like RINO). Realize that others are going to disagree with your positions, some quite passionately. And try not to tear down the person, but voice your opposition to his positions. Remember, at the end of the day, we are all going to have to unite behind the winner of this process in order to defeat Obama. Let's not make it any harder than is necessary by demonizing our own candidates.

Plenty. The Tea Party will likely get rid of Perry on their own. Trashing Reagan to JUSTIFY Perry is sickening!
I understand he did what he did so that insurance would cover it.
I understand he did what he did because Merck was counting on the drug becoming a mandatory immunization in order to recoup their research costs, and when it did not happen due to opposition from Christian Conservatives they panicked and started shoveling great piles of money at GOP politicians like Perry.
(the fact that he can apparently be bought is not a quality I desire in a future POTUS either)
I like that ticket! I'd vote for it. Too bad only 20% of the country would, but that's America today.
