Tom Tancredo: Rick Perry not a true conservative
Politico ^ | 08/11/2011 | Tom Tancredo

On Saturday Texas Gov. Rick Perry is expected to announce whether or not he will run for president. Many now believe he will.

Perry is eager to separate himself from his predecessor in the Texas governor’s mansion, George W. Bush — who is unpopular with both tea party Republicans and the American electorate as a whole. But one area where Perry’s positions are virtually identical to Bush is immigration.

When I ran for president in 2008, I tried to pressure the Republican candidates to take a hard line against illegal immigration. For this, Perry called me a racist.

When he first took office as governor in 2001, Perry went to Mexico and bragged about his law that granted “the children of undocumented workers” special in-state tuition at Texas colleges, the first state in the nation to do so.

“The message is simple,” Perry concluded, “educacion es el futuro, y si se puede.” Education is the future, and (echoing Cesar Chavez’s slogan) yes we can.]

Just a few weeks ago, Perry defended his decision to give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants. He said “to punish these young Texans for their parents’ actions is not what America has always been about.”

Perry opposed Arizona’s tough anti-illegal immigration law SB 1070. “I have concerns,” he explained, “with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas.”

He spoke out last year against using E-Verify to prevent illegal immigrants from getting jobs as state employees, who get their paychecks from the taxpayers. He insisted it “would not make a hill of beans’ difference.”

Numbers USA, a group that supports immigration control, gives Perry a “D-“ for his positions supporting amnesty, open borders, and opposing border security.

11% in 2003, more in 2011. Do you know of any other State that has done anything like that?

RE :”However, the people of Texas have decided that they can apply for college, stay here legally, and pay in-state tuition.

Well then The 'People of Texas' are not going to once again pick our POTUS so he can try another try to ram another amnesty bill down our throats and help Democrats. Even Maryland RINOs oppose this stupid policy.

RE :"” Illegals have no business going to state college let alone getting a tuition discount that other legal Americans (citizens and green cards) do not get. In fact that is against Federal law, This kind of crap is how you tell you have an amnesty RINO on your hands.”........John McCain lite."

Am I doing good ? :)

Once again we get:"We have to support this RINO or Obama will win"

No you are illogical. The RINOS might PASS amnesty. If the Democrats promote it, the Republicans will never go for it.
And since Perry has shown he doesn’t care about American sovereignty, why the HELL promote him??

i like Perry. i don’t expect my candidates to be perfect.
he has a real record as an executive, and has had to make hard choices. certainly, some have been unpopular or wrong. But overall, Perry has done great for Texas, and is an effective conservative.

...but you two, ncalburt & lonestar, talk like liberals!
personal attacks on org.whodat, who i have admired and respected for many posts on other topics?

“Tancredo is a Media WHORE” ?!?
Perry got lots of media for his prayer meeting. (which i approve of!)
who decides what is legitimate media coverage? you, the media police?

Tancredo has warts also, but is a solid patriotic conservative.
and Perry is NOT small government. fact.
Gardasil is very bad. fact.
http://truthaboutgardasil.org/
(even one of the lead designers later came out against it.)
http://trueandcorrect.blogspot.com/2007/04/truth-about-gardasil-human-papilloma.html

And illegal immigrants cost CA alone, 21 billion a year,
probably costs the USA total over 100 billion,
and it is behind the identity theft epidemic.
it is destroying our Nation!!!

and Perry is NOT strongly against it. (is he?)
Tancredo is.
I would like to see pressure put on Perry, to move more to the right on immigration.
If he did that, i’d vote for Perry in a heartbeat.

again, there is a LOT i do like about Perry!

but seeing people like you two, trashing people with legitimate concerns and questions about Perry, disgusts me.

go ahead and tell me that i’m clueless like org.whodat.

but i’d rather you simply acknowledged Perry’s warts, and tell me good things about him.
personal attacks don’t make me want to vote for him.

If one reads enough of these blogs NO ONE IS A CONSERVATIVE. If you are looking for the perfect candidate, it won't happen.

By the standards of today's Freepers, Ronald Reagan would not be a conservative! He was divorced, a former Democrat and a former union member.

My family and I will take Perry over space cadet theology "I am going to be the god of my own planet and my wife is going to pop out "spirit children" like the Queen Alien in the movie Aliens, in order to populate it with people who will WORSHIP ME" Mormon Romnycare MIT, any day.

We will take Perry over state Shariah banking law passing Pawlenty as well. As for Ron Paul, the man is a NUT! And Herman Cain... he doesn't have a chance, besides Obama has poisoned the well for any future black candidate for some time to come, Obama has "disgraced his race" to quote the mayor of Philly, and Bachman... Tammy Fay and the MSM will Palinize her to the point of absurdity.

Perry is not perfect, but We will take him over the anti-American, anti-Semite, anti-Israel, Communist, Marxist, Afro-centric black liberation theology, anti-white people RACIST Obama any dat of the week.

We had 2 to 3 million illegals back then, NOT 25 million. And if the amnesty bill had been enforced, we wouldn’t have 25 million. Go back and read the bill, then go peddle your papers Mr. Alinsky.

Since Perry didn’t do that, your argument becomes null and void.
