Any FReeper changing their personal/home DEFCON level due to UK (and US) riot/pre-riot situations?

Mrs. MindBender and I keep a secure home; passive IR lights, alarm, long weapons in closet, hand guns close, planning, drills, etc.

Due to worldwide "problems," we have gone to more lights on, long weapons next to bed, and taking the Glock 23s with extra mags with us whenever out of home 20.

Anyone else?

Advice: Watch for scouts from those areas in your neighborhood. When you see some make it a point to clean your shotgun outside when they’re around. Your property, maybe even neighborhood, will be off their list.

I try to encourage everyone I can to get prepared. More and more agree with me that it’s necessary now. Millions of people thinking this way just can’t be wrong. I just don’t think it’s collective hysteria, it’s that little voice in your head that will save you if you listen to it.

I think the next set of rioters and looters are going to be far more volatile than the Rodney King incident and it will be nationwide. If you live in a major or medium size city, I urge you to have a place to go when it goes belly up.

The zombies are going to loot everything they can, most importantly food. When that runs out, they will move into the suburbs to find it. That’s when the real conflict will happen. Everyone else caught in the city will just be a victim. The most enterprising zombies will hit national guard armories and if successful, that will make things “interesting”.

As a member of “government”, I will tell you that “government” will fail. Some police will walk off the job or not show up for different reasons (use your imagination, it’s an urban police department), firefighters/paramedics will be shot and refuse to deploy, hospitals will be overwhelmed and triage will be commonplace, all basic services will fail and you will be on your own so you must seek out like minded, ARMED, citizens.

Don’t leave the lights on, they’ll know you’re home. (”Hey, come get me).

"My goofy Sheltie is terrible guard dog, though." LOLOL! Had one of those myself. He would let ANYBODY into the house, but nobody dared try to leave. LOL!

Our previous one was just like redhead's. But our new one, whoa, he is the opposite. He won't even let my kids in the house when they come to visit. He barks at us coming in until he has accurate visuals that it is us.

He is NOT a bark all the time sheltie. But he will bark and growl at all visitors until he is sure they are OK. Even then he is very careful for quite a while. Once he has calmed down, sudden moves by visitors will set him off again, barking and growling. Very protective. He is 20 pounds, but he will go after Sheps if we don't call him off. Otherwise, he is a very calm and happy dog.

Other preparations? Very likely.

Home defense preparations are complete. I will not discuss specifics on the internet.

The only change I have made due to recent events is to walk around buck nekkid with all the lights on. Once a possible intruder sees this overweight old bod in all it’s glory, the sight of it will leave them either stunned and disorientated or nauseous. Either one makes them an easy target.

I have slept with my handgun within reach since I was 18 years old. Not going to change now. It is routine and habit. If I forget I have to get out of bed and put it where it belongs. I also have my shotgun within reach. Just prepared not paranoid. Now if I lived in a city environment I would be scared all the time. I prefer the woods.
