In the coming days well sort through the repercussions of S&Ps downgrade of our credit rating, including concerns about the impact a potential interest rate increase would have on our ability to service our suffocating $14.5 trillion debt.
Im surprised that so many people seem surprised by S&Ps decision. Werent people paying attention over the last year or so when we were getting warning after warning from various credit rating agencies that this was coming? Ive been writing and speaking about it myself for quite some time.

The debate and criticisms regarding the merits of the Ryan plan, or baseline budgeting is not the issue. You accused Palin of being unserious and unspecific about entitlement reform. The Ryan plan does in fact include a serious and specific plan on the issue of entitlement reform. Heck, the Medicare voucher program contained in the plan in and of itself clearly qualifies as a legit example of "serious entitlement reform".
LOL!
Actually, I thought Paul Ryan has been talking about getting RID of Baseline Budgeting.
When shouting just isn't enough... repeat.
LOL... well said.
I did, and another Palin supporter stated that she said that Ryan's plan was a "starting point" which again makes it nebulous.
Look, you guys wouldn't take platitudes without concrete numbers from any body else, and rightfully so. But because you like her personally you'll gloss over imperfections.
I don't like her, I don't like Perry, or Romney, or Paul or Bachmann or anybody else. I don't know these people from Adam or Eve. They're not my family, they're not my friends, I've never had dinner with any of them, and they've never done anything personally for me.
I save my like for people in my life. Can you political supporters of any candidate, potential candidate or office holder grasp that?
I just consider it prudent conservatism to be skeptical of those seeking power and to criticize them relentlessly. If they know they have a base of support regardless that only makes it easier to betray. Haven't we learned our lesson with the Bushbots and Obamatons?
Even George Washington was savaged, often by other founders. That's what your supposed to have in a constitutional republic. You want to be on top, you better expect some of us to kick that ladder.
Palin has on many occasions spoke about fixing our system on a variety of levels. That’s a fact. Are you wrong to question a politico? Not wrong, but this is well trodden ground. Why not take a trip down archive lane before questioning that which has been answered repeatedly?
No, SP shouldn’t get any more of a pass than Obama. But she, more than any other, has NOT gotten any passes of any sort.
I've read them. I really have. And I've seen no numbers. This isn't a freakin' game anymore. It's not 1974 where we have 40 years.
Do you see what's going on out there. Can you grasp the math. 10,000 boomers going on the dole a day. 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities.
It really, absolutely is crunch time, where someone has to say "hey, you on SS, you get 2300 a month , next year it has to be 1850 or the whole damn thing comes down".
"Hey you, on Medicare, next year 10,000 in deductibles or America ceases to exist as you know it."
"Hey you on food stamps, I'm real sorry but 25% off the top starting next month or we're doomed".
That's where we're at. About 11:59 from riots in the streets.
Wish it wasn't, but it is.
And I don't see any politician that can save us. I don't even think politics really can at this point.
But I'm still going to demand it til the bitter end, damnit.
Even George Washington was savaged, often by other founders. That's what your supposed to have in a constitutional republic. You want to be on top, you better expect some of us to kick that ladder.
Thanks for the nice discourse on the need for prudent skepticism of politicians in a healthy democracy ... What that has to do our specific debate regarding the validity of your specific claim that Palin wasn't serious about entitlement reform escapes me.
Thanks for posting it all. I clicked on the link and it told me to sign up for Facebook, which I refuse to do
I guess too late would be after the first Iowa caucus. Anytime before that, and I’m on board.
That's the bottom line.
Palin is the best hope to lead us back to Liberty!
(I think restoration begins at Waukee, Iowa. Sept. 3rd 2011).
I’m with you, it IS crunch time. But until she or any other Pol gets in there it’s all just words. I don’t know if she can ‘fix’ it or not. It may well be a bridge too far. But IMO she has already convinced me that the direction she’s headed is the one I want to go and technically she isn’t even in the ‘game’ yet. No one else has come close to providing that ‘direction’ as she has.
Bottom line IMO is that you, I and many on FR are ready for that kind of reality talk. ‘we’ know thats what’s needed. But the gen pub isn’t and like it or not (and no, I don’t), they have to be eased into it. They aren’t going to abandon their vision of reality overnight, even in light of the disaster coming down around their ears.
I thought Ryan’s plan was good on the social security and medicare issue. It wouldn’t solve the problem immediately, but that problem cannot be solved immediately. It would have protected those 55 and older who have counted on those plans and those who are already receiving benefits.
Possibly the age could be increased to 57 1/2 or 58 but not much.
It is a realistic plan and would eventually solve this problem which no one else seems to want to tackle at all.
And I think Palin gets it completely. Some people here are focusing on semantics but what good difference does it make what exact words you use if you’re a liar like Obama or someone who bounces in the wind like Romney.
