HOUSTONTexas Gov. Rick Perry, joining an estimated 30,000 Christians in a prayer summit at a football stadium here, gave no further hints at whether he would seek the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
"The Response," a Saturday festival organized by Mr. Perry and a cadre of Christian groups, was scheduled well before he had declared interest in running for president. But it garnered more attention this month given the governor's potential entry.
Mr. Perry, who is expected to announce his decision in coming weeks, appeared on stage only twice during the seven-hour event: He spoke for a few minutes before noon, reading scripture and leading a short prayer, then he returned to close the ceremonies late in the afternoon.
The event, which organizers dubbed "a call to prayer for a nation in crisis," mostly consisted of pastors delivering prayers, punctuated by Christian musical acts.
Mr. Perry, a former Air Force captain, is a Methodist who has governed Texas during the past decade, when the state's economy has grown faster than the nation's.
Backers believe he could challenge President Barack Obama on issues such as unemployment, while at the same time appeal to social conservatives.

It’s a bird... it’s a plane... nope, it’s Captain Gardasil !
give it up.
Nope, it’s Governor Perry...what’s Gardasil got to do with anything. His executive order for Gardasil put the decision in the parents hands and only provided funding for those who wanted it.
Read the democrapic propaganda, did ya?
the left is out in force trying to derail Perry, because they know he will destroy their boy in 2012.
Starting to wonder whether Perry and Palin are playing a game of chicken against each other...
Popcorn sales will be through the roof.
It was important to point this out, because a lot of people were accusing Perry to have organized this for political reasons.
He'd already committed to this before the presidential whispers began. It would have been an act of political cowardice to pull out just because some would see it as opportunism. He did the right thing and, from all reports, handled it properly, much to the disappointment of the political class (or should I say "political crass").
Bet ya’ Perry was with a whole lot of weathly Texas Oil Men...instructing and being instructed with lots of money waiting for him when he announces. Lots of these men are very excited about Perry.
“the left is out in force trying to derail Perry, because they know he will destroy their boy in 2012.”
BINGO! Exactly right.
New York agrees.
I fear the left will portray him as a religious extremist.
Of course they are...and conservatives are totally buying every piece of their propaganda...it’s amazing that nobody seems to want to check their krap out.
Attended Perrys prayer session at Reliant Stadium yesterday. (I thought that I and my car were about to melt on the parking lot.)
The idea was great and the crowd truly showed a deep desire for a better America and were willing to pray for it. But, here again, even the prayers were politically correct IMO.
The generic statement was made that America had wandered away from God and that it should repent and reverse that direction. (The words “forgive us” and “have mercy on us” were often heard.) Very true, but how this was to be accomplished was left hanging in mid-air. Neither was it uttered how we got away from God.
The words abortion, same-sex marriage, were never mentioned because that would have been politically incorrect.
So you see, we are back at square one because we do not dare to speak the truth any longer.
Captain Gardasil
... that’s brutal. So Rove-like.
Legislation authored by border legislators Pat Haggerty and Eddie Lucio establishes an important study that will look at the feasibility of bi-national health insurance. This study recognizes that the Mexican and U.S. sides of the border compose one region, and we must address health care problems throughout that region. Thats why I am also excited that Texas Secretary of State Henry Cuellar is working on an initiative that could extend the benefits of telemedicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border

Well it would certainly give Americans a cheaper option than we have now.
"The Health and Human Services Executive Commissioner shall adopt rules that mandate the age appropriate vaccination of all female children for HPV prior to admission to the sixth grade."
Parents Rights. "The Department of State Health Services will, in order to protect the right of parents to be the final authority on their childrens health care, modify the current process in order to allow parents to submit a request for a conscientious objection affidavit form via the Internet while maintaining privacy safeguards under current law."
Anyone can read it for themselves and decide if they believe it's a important or not:
RP65 Relating to the immunization of young women from the cancer-causing Human Papillomavirus.
This EO didn't sit well with the Texas legislature.
In response to his refusal to rescind his EO, the Texas House passed HB 1098 on March 14, 2007, overturning his executive order by a vote of 119-21.
The Senate agreed with a vote of 30-1.
If obama or Clinton or had done this instead of Perry, my guess is you'd be raising holy hell about it instead of pretending it's no big deal.
