It’s no longer “hearts and minds”, it’s “trust and confidence”. We always wondered when the Afghani’s were going to start trying to win our “trust and confidence”. The people over there don’t respect or fear us, as we try to win them over with kindness. It’s the Taliban they fear, and that’s why they help them or at least don’t help us. And hence, why we keep getting blown up with IEd’s in the middle of villages.
The ANA and ANP are no better than the Keystone Cops. Every time we would have them go out with us they’d have a negligent discharge. Besides the fact that the ANA are killing us,(see Gamberi this past spring) there is no way that they are even close to taking over security for themselves. They wouldn’t go out unless US forces were with them and would high tail it when the SHTF.
We all know where the SF guys are based out of. And there are thousands of local nationals that work there. The enemy isn’t at the gate, Hell, we’ve let them in the front door. It’s insanity and dare I say, murderous behavior by those in charge.
This is not going to pass anytime soon Mesta. I think we're all still enraged...and deeply saddened for this happening. There's much to be accountable for and hopefully the truth will not be hidden as is usually the case. Families will mourn now and funerals abound...but I am trusting the "good guys" are working at bringing the truth to us. If or not it gets to us is a whole nother question. I can't shake the "Party-time", "Vacation" Pres. we have when things are so dire and uncertain in our Nation. There just is no sensitivity to him at all of events as they happen....nor what the American people are struggling with. His lips speak lip service but there's no heart there.... yet after every happening we see him going out to play or be entertained in one form or another.
Fear will always trump kindness on a people conditioned under it as the Afghan people are....as long as the Taliban exists that is how it will be. Further they know well the troops will be leaving so their allegiance will remain at best neutral in order to survive whoever is in charge at any given moment.
Until the religious leaders and the Koran are silenced nothing the US does is going to change their way of life. War will always be the norm.
There is comfort in what is familiar even if it’s abusive and diabolic....the Afghan people will not be changed by any outside influence.
Needs repeated.

While not minimizing the scores of pointless losses in that sh!thole,
we're glad you made it back and have the courage to speak the truth of it.
There's no conceivable situation in life that gutless politicians can't turn into a massive CF.
And many FReepers forget who is in charge over there......yes, Hillary Clinton who secretly met with the Muslim Brotherhood to coordinate with the socialists. Hillary Clinton who has a hand in Fast & Furious and the support of at least two cartels in Mexico.
We don't think of Clinton as a socialist because Obama seems much worse, but she was given a position with free reign to organize the islamists and socialists against the west.
Roger, that! Worst thing we ever did was annouce our time table for pulling troops out.
Not much has changed there since the 7th century and most of the people are perfectly fine with it. All they want is to grow their wheat, rice and opium, smoke alittle, or alot of hash, and treat their females like crap.
Very few worry about tomorrow because they can’t see past the hand in front of their face. Inshallah (God willing) is there guiding principle. What every happens, happens because of allah. (Except if they can blame us for it).
Right now our troops are in a no win situation and until things change, i.e. ROE and get back to really fighting a war, we’ll never be truely successful there. (in my humble opinion)
Your caption was spot on!
Where is the blowback?
Obama wants this war lost. No question about it.
And what is in question surrounding the specifics of this mission is did somebody in the ranks tip off the Taliban so they could assassinate these SEALs? Whether we will ever know is questionable. But God knows and their sin will find them out.
Yes, the best men know this and still they come forward to
serve. God bless them every one.
I want the whole damn country vaporized...and then obliterate pakistan’s nukes. Then start vaporizing chunks of pakistan.
“The fighting was ongoing as NATO teams tried to recover the wreckage of the twin rotor Chinook CH-47 transport helicopter from the remote Tagab Valley.”
they were not in a SPECOPS Chinook. Where was it???
“The remaining U.S. military casualties were divided between a five-person regular Army aircrew and three Air Force combat controllers, said a special ops source who has been briefed on the incident. The use of a regular Army Chinook to fly a JSOC mission was atypical, the source said. Most JSOC missions involving helicopters are flown by the Armys 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).”
It’s time for this polite society to start wearing its “Prick” hat again.
“Hello there, I’m Hal Prick. What can I do ya for?”
TOO much of a coincidence.
I’m paranoid -but am I paranoid enough..........
Who helped in the apparent assassinatioin of these SEALs?!!!!! When will NCIS open an investigation into why these SEALs were on the same transport, and who in the ranks was privy to the mission's location and classified specifics and leaking them to the enemy?
