I know of him, but haven’t had the pleasure of meeting him.

The hands and feet thing is called “coordinated Independence”, much like a keyboard player must master and it takes lots of practice and concentration, but in time it comes naturally. Some prodigies are born with it and others never catch on, but most drummers master some level of separation.

Sidenote: With Bill Bruford's departure from Yes in 1972 after completing the "Close To The Edge" Album, Alan White had less than three weeks to learn the parts for the World Tour. By all accounts, he did good!
