a white male, 6 feet tall, with light brown hair
Officers responded immediately to the area but found no one matching the description.
So, there AREN'T any white, 6-ft, light brown haired males at VT?

In the VA Tech massacre, Seung-Hui Cho murdered the first half a dozen victims or so. VA Tech’s gun policy killed the rest.

They say the weapon was covered by a cloth or covering of some sort. Could've been a liquor bottle he was trying to dispose of.

Since most people, especially college-aged kids, go through life with their head up their butts, not noticing anything going on around them,
In the age of hippies, when I was at a state U, I recall walking near the Student Union. I thought it rather strange that a more-than-usual number of students were milling around.
That evening, I went to the TV room in the dorm to catch the news. Headline: Riot at the U.
I laughed. I was there. If that was 'riot', it was the calmest one in history. No Molotov cocktails, no fighing the Pigs, no autos being turned over and burned, no windows broken; nothing but a bunch of students milling around.

most campuses have rules against having guns there
True, but campus rules (especially on an open/public campus) are only applicable to students/faculty/staff. Someone not affiliated with the University doesn't fall under that jurisdiction.
I don't know VA law on firearms on campus, but I know Texas law only states that a CHL holder Can only not carry on school premises, which is defined as the interior of a building, not including parking garages. Longguns aren't covered. However, since University property usually includes parking garages, land around buildings, etc, The Student Code of Conduct, or other stuff you sign will usually have a clause where you agree to not bring them on campus at all. So, you can get expelled, but break no law.

Glad you are safe, hope it stays that way. Sounds like someone overreacted though.

Pack of cigarettes. Dope pipe. Blackberry. He was spotted at Deitrick and then New East dorm? Sounds fishy.

They are not saying that it was a false alarm. 'Not' saying or 'now' saying?

He issued an AG opinion, not a ruling. AG opinions do not have the force of law in Virginia. But then again, as far as I know there is no state LAW against possessing a gun on VT campus, merely a University Rule, which apparently DOES have the 'force of law' (at least for those who work or go to school at the university).
I live in Virginia and I am confused as to whether it is 'legal' to possess a gun on the campus of VT. I DO know that I possessed guns on campus when I attended Virginia Tech. I never even asked whether there was a rule against it or not.
Perhaps most surprisingly, in my 4 years as an undergraduate and through two years of graduate school I someone managed to AVOID having my guns cause me to go crazy and start shooting/killing people; nor did my guns take any overt actions by themselves to shoot/kill anyone. I know what you're thinking -- it's practically UNBELIEVABLE! I guess I was just one of the lucky ones...

I’m a grad student now (in my late 40’s), so I see this all the time. I think it’s pitiful. These kids have no idea how to relate to anyone face to face. Most of them seem to have the personalities of neanderthals.
I am grateful that I grew up in the time that I did — a time w/o all computers, cell phones, and i-phones. We really lived life and actually interracted with others in a meaningful way.

There is a link above. Do you have reason to doubt this? The link came only after I asked where the report came from. Don't you like to know where various info comes from?

a blue and white striped shirt (stripes were vertical), gray shorts and brown sandals Or maybe the liquor bottle was full and he was heading to margaritaville... which would explain why he was in a hurry.

We are locked down and they want everyone to stay indoors. But they hold the press conference outside at Burruss Hall. Really?
