The White House announced a strategy to help police, schools and other local organizations counter the threat of domestic radicalism, a broad plan involving federal departments not usually associated with national security.
The effort is modeled on anti-gang initiatives developed in the 1990s and programs intended to prevent school shootings like the tragedy at Columbine High School in Colorado in 1999.
Although short on details, the eight-page outline for the first time called on all parts of the U.S. government, including the departments of Education and Health and Human Services, to devise ways to help communities identify extremist agendas that could lead to violence.
Wednesday's announcement came a week after the arrest of U.S. soldier Naser Jason Abdo in Killeen, Texas. Abdo was charged with possessing an unregistered destructive device after a gun store clerk tipped police that he had behaved oddly while buying gunpowder. Abdo planned to blow up a restaurant frequented by soldiers stationed at nearby Ft. Hood, authorities said.
At his arraignment, Abdo yelled out the name of Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist who is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 32 during a 2009 shooting rampage at Ft. Hood.
Congressional investigations into the Ft. Hood shootings revealed warning signs that could have tipped off authorities.
Intelligence reports indicate that Al Qaeda has tried to recruit Americans to launch attacks on U.S. soil.
Thirty-one American citizens or permanent residents were arrested between May 2009 and July 2011 in connection with homegrown terrorism plots, according to the Congressional Research Service. Those arrests within a two-year period contrast with 21 such arrests in the previous seven years.

“called on all parts of the U.S. government, including the departments of Education and Health and Human Services, to devise ways to help communities identify extremist agendas that could lead to violence.”
Let me help identify the “extremist agendas that can lead to violence”.
1. Islam.
2. Communism.
3. Some forms of socialism including fascism.
4. Black Nationalism.
5. La Raza.
6. Being a public employee union member.
There. That’s 99.9% of the potential political violence creators in America. Now they don’t need the initiative any more.
We are heading to total collapse.
Can we expect them at the polls in 2012 to round up Hobbit Terrorists?
Hobbits and schitzoids beware. McCain’s and West’s Homey is coming.
So the “Un-American Activities Committee,” McCarthyism, “Are you now or have ever been a member of...,” and clandestine FBI surveillance of legitimate political activity in the United States is back with a vengeance.
SOBs
That’s been the plan since 2008. I said it here on 11/4/08, but everyone poo-pooed me. President Obama isn’t incompetent...he’s intentional. In fact, he’s been quite successful in exacting his agenda.
How about an executive order giving O power to enable him to deal with “domestic radicalism”?
(Yesterday the term used was “terrorism”—a significant semantic difference.)
Call it ,say, the “Enabling Act”.
For your list? They’re making their list.
Defund the police madrasses.
Speak for yourself. I'll stand my ground with my fellow Americans, if it comes to that.
“If we do not wake up enough people and vote them out, we are GONE!”
It certainly is very scary stuff, and history is in no way whatsoever reassuring about the odds of this even being slowed down notably from this point (reading the lives of sulla and marius by Plutarch is a great way to depress yourself on what may be coming, not in their specific conflict but the pogroms and wholesale murder/theft by the gang in power once they eliminate all rivals).
I think the most likely outcome is the US in 10 years will be a police state to such a degree that posters here would have been laughed or banned off the site 10 years ago for saying so. I would expect DHS is making lists in anticipation of eventually either really provoking conservative action or just providing an incident big enough to justify large-scale detentions etc. We as a country have gone from the slippery slope to the actual fall off the cliff.
If there is anyone on this thread that missed the point, the proposal was waiting for something like the oslo attack to be announced, but the primary target is NOT islamic terror, but non-violent political philosophies of american citizens which are on the security service’s danger list (as released by DHS a couple of years ago).
Exactly. Should the balloon go up, as me granpop says, I’m heading home. I’d like to see some UN or city boys try to take those that know the hills. The thing is, it’d be hard to fight against American soldiers. We’re not like those Third World countries where soldiers there get kicks out of killing their own kind. The UN, no qualms, our guys is another matter.
