Internet Explorer users 'have below-average IQ'
The Telegraph ^ | Aug 1, 2011 | The Telegraph Staff

Posted on 08/01/2011 7:25:42 AM PDT by fellowgeek

PC World reports that a "psychometric consulting" firm called AptiQuant gave free online IQ tests to 100,000 people, and then plotted the scores against the browser on which the tests were taken.

It found that Internet Explorer users scored lower than average, while Chrome, Firefox and Safari users were very slightly above average. Camino, Opera and Internet Explorer with Chrome Frame were scored "exceptionally" high.

"The study showed a substantial relationship between an individual's cognitive ability and their choice of web browser," AptiQuant concluded. "From the test results, it is a clear indication that individuals on the lower side of the IQ scale tend to resist a change/upgrade of their browsers."

Some people have suggested that there may be other factors at work. Business Insider's Matt Rosoff points out that since IE is the default browser for Windows PC users, anyone who doesn't know how to download and install a new browser will be stuck with it - "which drags down the average". And users of other browsers "include a disproportionate number of computer geeks", which might bring their average up. Or, he admits, it might be that "IE users really are kind of dumb."

Within the group of IE users, version 6 users score lowest, while users of version 8 do rather better.

Ecc 10:2 The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.

Just shows that those old-time prophets and men-of-God knew their business :)

“I’m wondering about the comparitive IQ’s of “carrot eaters” vs “potato eaters”.”

That’s not the right question. The right question is wondering about the comparitive IQ’s of “carrot eaters” AND “potato eaters” vs Meat eaters.

After all, “how much intelligence does it take to sneak up on a leaf”........

Yeah I noticed that when I passed by the local place of worship (Apple Store) at the local mall.

The worshipers were there offering their tithes.

I use Camino on my Macs, and my search engine of choice is http://search.yippy.com/

Camino is a new one on me—LOL! I’ll look for it.

I use goodsearch.com as my search engine. You get to dedicate a “charity” of your choice for goodsearch to send a few pennies to each time you use their search engine.

Of course, my “charity” is Second Amendment Sisters. We’ve actually gotten a couple of hundred dollars from them over the past year. If you use them and want to designate SAS as your “charity”, we’d be much obliged!

Does this make we users of SeaMonkey the smartest of all?

(It’s a Firefox suite with e-mail included...I love it)

I use Safari. Does that make me smarter than the average bear?

Only on certain issues. You have an encyclopedic knowledge of show tunes and EXCELLENT fashion sense! ;-)

Opera isn’t a processor hog and runs much faster. Its disk caching operation is much better. It also has more features and options imo.

Opera was my standard browser from about v2.xx, but they hosed the UI in whatever version came after 7.23, and I couldn't use it anymore. As configurable as it is and as hideous as the change was, I was surprised someone didn't do a plug-in to simulate the 7.23 UI (or a built-in option). Now I use Firefox.

Half of all people are below average. On average, anyway.

Half of all people are below the MEDIAN. Whether more people are above or below the average depends on whether there are more idiots or geniuses. A predominance of geniuses, for example, would raise the mean, shifting more people below the average.

Half of all people are below the MEDIAN.

Good lord, it was a play on words.

And, the IQ distribution is normal, so the mean, mode and median are the same.

LOL! Actually, I’ve got a few golden oldies on I-Tunes, none of which are show tunes, and that’s about it.

As to fashion sense—jeans and cotton button down shirts about sums up my wardrobe...........
