Issa investigating Obama's new fuel economy standards
The Hill ^ | 7/29/11 | Andrew Restuccia -

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) launched an investigation Friday into a series of closed-door meetings between Obama administration officials and major automakers that resulted in beefed-up vehicle fuel economy standards.

Issa sent out letters to executives of the country’s major automakers Friday alerting them to the investigation and requesting that they keep all documents related to meetings with administration officials on the standards.

In the letters, which were obtained by The Hill, Issa says the administration’s efforts to negotiate the fuel economy standards “raise serious concerns.” The new rules, which were announced Friday by President Obama, will also limit consumer choice, Issa says.

king obama can do anything he wants.

But if an auto maker could make a car that will get that kind of gas mileage, they would have done it.

Issa. Has been there six months now. What has he accomplished with his many "investigations?" Even of the gunrunner atrocity? Is he just an endless "Judicial Watch" on a gubmint expense account?

He is keeping pressure on these bastards at every turn. Throw enough against the wall, somebody is going to crack. I applaud Issa for his efforts.

He's shedding light. He is a committee chairman. He can only investigate and then write reports and propose legislation. He has no power to prosecute. We have to wait for Sarah Palin's justice department.

Yes. Lets stay with Gun Runner . That's a big steak to chew on . It was a huge provable blunder. Worrying about fuel standards decades out is just stupid .

From A Big Welcome to EPA Motors

..............."there are only two cars on the road today that get more than 54.5 mpg — the all-electric Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt plug-in. So far this year, and despite a hefty $7,500 federal tax credit, sales of both cars have totaled just 7,000."..............

Welcome to obama's worldview of what's good for us.

I thought only GM and Chrysler were owned, or partially owned by Uncle Obama... So Ford is bending over for King Obama too? Not surprising with their past record of supporting the homosexual agenda (you know - bending over and taking whatever someone else wants to “give”...).

I heard he threatened to send out the union thugs if they didn't cooperate. I'm not sure where I heard it, but the only news station - I almost trust - is FOX.
'They' didn't say what the role of the union thugs would be. Protests or factory shut downs, maybe? That would really hurt a business in an Oboma economy.

Yes, I'm 100% in agreement. We should get rid of the CAFE standards. The auto manufacturers are already producing very high mileage cars. The market is working and we don't need CAFE standards set by an assortment of idiots in Washington D.C., most of whom have never changed a spark plug. The problem is that many people do not want a small 4-Cylinder Cars that don't doesn't do well in a crash.

When Obama first came into office, he signed an "executive order" which said that the fleet average should be 35.5 mpg for passenger cars. Well if he could achieve this by an executive order, why stop at 35.5mpg? Why not 135.5 mpg? This is the way a buffoon like Obama thinks. He's cannot for the life of himself imagine why a 54.5 mpg car cannot be produced. I'm sure there are an assortment of technical idiots in his administration who are telling him that it's possible. And since Obama has never changed a tire or possibly put air into a tire, he's gone along. These are the types of idiots we have to deal with.

The Obama administration is the biggest assortment of fools, idiots and morons ever assembled in Washington.

And by the way the car makers will go along to get along. They are tired of auguring with the political types in Washington. Who can stand to argue with idiots.

I am glad that Issa is investigating the Obamunists. He should investigate what happened to the $4 trillion of borrowed money that seems to have gone missing in the last 2-1/2 years.

“Obama outlined a plan earlier Friday to ratchet up fuel efficiency and cut harmful carbon pollution ...”

What harmful carbon pollution? Are we talking about the imaginary kind?
