The unemployment situation across America is bad, no doubt. But for African-Americans in some cities, this is not the great recession. Its the Great Depression.
Take Charlotte, N.C., for example. It is a jewel of the new South. The largest financial center outside of New York City, it's the showcase for next years Democratic National Convention. It was a land of hope and opportunity for many blacks with a four-year college degree or higher.
According to an analysis by the Economic Policy Institute, in Charlotte, N.C., the unemployment rate for African-Americans is 19.2 percent. If you add in people who have given up looking for jobs, that number exceeds 20 percent, which, according to economists Algernon Austin and William Darity, has effectively mired blacks in a depression.
Youre looking at a community that is economically depressed in my opinion, Austin said. And we need action that will address that scale of joblessness.
Vanessa Parker worked hard to get ahead. She was an administrative assistant at IBM in Charlotte. She went to night school to better herself, graduating with a bachelors degree in finance. Parker and her husband saved up enough money to move from a bad neighborhood to a quiet, middle-class street. But instead of moving up in the company, IBM moved out. Now she works at a big-box store for minimum wage.

They voted for change. They should have realized that there is not much hope with government dependency.
Ain’t Barry’s “fundemental transformation” something else? Like being back on the plantation again.
The so-called wealth-gap is the result of personal choice, IMHO. If you are DRIVEN to better yourself and personally responsible, you can create wealth. If you are apathetic, parasitic, or incapable of personally taking your life to where you want it to go, then you LIVE off others, and complain.
Where do I get one of those?
The Democrats want the African-American middle class to erode so they can more voters on the “plantation”.
But it’s all Bush’s fault. Things were so bad under Bush.

The headline could just as easily read “Middle class eroding...”.
So How is that hope and change working out for you? BUMPER STICKER
The recent decline of the wealth of the black middle class is because of the drop in home equity, usually the biggest asset of black middle class families. Couple that with almost double unemployment among blacks (often government jobs) over whites, and that is the main cause. Obama hates black people.
Much of the Black middle class is comprised of government jobs, and local, state and federal governments have run out of other people’s money.
This group of workers will not be missed because they were affirmative action hires whose jobs weren’t necessary in the first place. Unfortunately for them, they also qualified for the bad loans that Freddie and Fannie were handing out like gum drops to minorities, and many have lost their homes when they lost their jobs.
But think about the fact that we have a black president, blacks in high positions such as attorney general, black governors, black mayors, etc. There are more black middle class people now than ever before. On many levels, conditions have never been better for blacks than they are right now.
If there were still rampant discrimination against blacks, wouldn’t our black attorney general and the Justice Department be investigating and prosecuting any such violations?
As regards the economy, perhaps these black folk should ask our president where to apply for one of the clean green jobs his policies allegedly are creating in our economy.
They want the three percent that did not vote for the Marxist?
Chicagos showdown over WalMart pits Blacks desperate for work against Union Thugs and Democrats
Chicago has some nice plantations
You got what you voted for. Suck it up.
“...It was a land of hope and opportunity for many blacks with a four-year college degree or higher. ...”
That, uh, err, umm, would be the same 90% demographic who voted for the assclown “cause he be a brutha...”
Sorry. The compassion meter is broken over here.
They can go ask him for some of that “Obama Stash” - you know, so they don’t have to “worry about paying my mortgage, don’t have to worry about paying for gas...”
Great job, black America. Simply effing stellar.
Cry me a river. They wanted him, they got him. And effed the rest of the country over as well.
Whatever - Black people will still vote virtually as a block for Premier Hussein in 2012.
And they’ll continue to refer to Whites as “racist.”
Where’s the “I don’t have to worry about gas in my car or my mortgage” girl now?
0bama girl, wherefore art thou?
Oprah, is he still “the One?”
Jesse Jackson Jr., still want that 0bama chapter written in the Bible?
(crickets....)
"Nonsense! He's still the 'One.'"
