Here’s my problem with all this.
I fully understand holding the line on spending and that this bill is not really doing all that much. However, it’s VERY REASONABLE from a “moderation/compromise” standpoint, and politically is a good thing from the point of view of independents.
If the GOP House fails to pass it, then the Senate will pass a Reid-penned bill, send it to the House, and then if the House votes “yes” - they look somewhat bad, and Obama looks good, but if they vote no, then any consequences that do occur (I do think the markets will TANK among other things if nothing is done) goes right on the GOP. Neither is a pleasant position.
If they “get their asses in line” as Boehner says, at least now if the Senate fails to pass the bill, or Obama vetoes it, then the consequences are on the Democrats. Unless of course they still revise and send back.
We have to remember we only have one half of one branch of government.
Passing Boehner’s bill is not the “end-all” - we can STILL propose the Penny Plan or even CCB itself (w/o the debt ceiling increase) after the fact.
The debt ceiling WILL be raised, so we might as well do it in the most advantageous way possible.
FOX is showing the DJIA in a little box on the screen.
