McCain vs. the Tea Party
New York Times ^

Posted on 07/27/2011 11:53:56 AM PDT by Windy City Conservative

Mr. McCain mocked Tea Party-allied Republicans in the House for believing — wrongly, he said — that President Obama and Democrats will get the blame for a default if Republicans refuse to increase the nation’s debt ceiling. By that flawed logic, “Democrats would have no choice but to pass a balanced budget amendment and reform entitlements and the Tea Party Hobbits could return to Middle Earth,” he said, quoting a Wall Street Journal editorial. “This is the kind of crack political thinking that turned Sharron Angle and Christine O’Donnell into G.O.P. nominees,” he jeered, referring to two losing Tea Party candidates for the Senate in 2010.

I believe in America. I believe in America's destiny. America's destiny will arrive, when We the People decide.

Ironically, I can picture the community-organizer-in-chief standing in front of fake marble columns uttering the same platitudes.

More Americans are awake than ever before, and this is a Great Sign.

Funny, I heard the same thing in 1964, 1968, 1976, 1988, 1992, 2000, 2004, and 2008.

I'm sure the Whigs told themselves the same thing in 1856...FOUR YEARS BEFORE A THIRD PARTY sent them to the ash-heap of history.

I'm glad he did this. If he praised them, I'd be worried.

McCain has "establishment" tatooed on his forehead.

The only choices there are happen to be the ballot box or the cartridge box. Many are ready to pick up the cartridge box. I will wait for destiny, and attempt with my whole fiber of being to change the GOP to the thoughts of TEA.

Well, she campaigned for him. She knew who he was prior to accepting the VP nomination.

What line?

dc insiders are fed the meme that conservatives are a minority, the tea party is only a few, they are fed the lie that the tea party is dying.

DC is adolf in the bunker. The alies of the USA are closing in on the DC bunker and the aristocracy is beyond worried, they are panicing.

Have fun. I, too, prefer to use the ballot box...presumably the same one used in 1860.

“Third Partries don’t work”

They worked very well in 1860.

What are the Whigs doin’ these days?

Just askin’...

“American seem to be wonderfully incapable of realizing their political system is designed to be evolutionary, not revolutionary. They continually assume that because they win one election, they have won the political war. That is no how our system works. It takes several elections, not just an election, to change our political system in any significant fashion “

Serious questions follow:
1. How many Republicans were on the ticket in 1856?
2. How did the election of 1860 change things?
2a. Would you call what happened in 1860 “evolutionary”?
3. How many Whigs were on the ticket in 1864?

Just wonderin’...

McCain needs to stop with all his publicity stunts, review our constitution, learn a few things most of us have known since childhood and then retire. This man was a disaster for Arizona, a disgrace as a presidential candidate and MUST stop interfering with the forward movement of the conservative cause.

I agree. 3rd Party is like handing it to the Dems and possibly leading to the formation of a Marxist one-party system in the US.

We have to work to reform the GOP (but not by underhanded things like the RSC trying to contact “conservatives” to attack Boehner). We’ve got to stop eating our own, but at the same time, we’ve got to get people like McCain out of leadership positions.

He’s actually in “leadership” only because he’s old and has been around for a long time, which is the only thing it takes to be important in the GOP. Oh, and the Dems like him, which seems to be another qualifying feature for official GOP leadership.

On the other hand, we have nutcases coming out of the woodwork announcing that they are “Tea Party leaders” and trying to destroy us and make us look like nutcases.

Couldn't agree more....actually the power of the so called "Tea Party" is not the numbers of windbags and organizers..it's the silent ones that had such an impact on the 2010 elections. I'm sure I speak for many when I say they sure don't represent me or my views....just as the wacko got to have everything my way folks on FR don't represent the majority here..
