The leader of a large group of House conservatives said Tuesday he was "confident" there weren't enough GOP lawmakers to pass a plan by Republican House Speaker John Boehner to increase the debt ceiling and reduce the deficit.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), who said the Boehner plan didn't cut spending enough, heads a group that includes 178 of the 240 Republican House lawmakers.

The House passed Cut, Cap and Balance. That bill is still before the Senate. The Senate has not modified it, nor have they voted on it.

Boehner may fail in his current endeavor with a newer bill, but the GOP passed something that would work. The Democrats are the ones blocking CCB.

The media seems to be focusing on the "GOP block" which is currently causing trouble for Boehner -- the media is doing this so as to paint the GOP as unreasonable trouble-makers who won't allow a solution to pass.

I am tired of the GOP thinking that we do not need to make big budget cuts now.

We are borrowing $.42 of every dollar we spend.

An across-the-board, 15% cut of every federal agency and grant would be far more legitimate than Boehner’s proposal.

If we don’t start cutting now then all of these promises of cuts later ring utterly hollow.

Most of what is going on anyway is a fight between those who produce and those who take.

The beltway politicians aren't seeing the money, they are seeing their self promoting politics at stake and the "takers" are petrified at the prospect of losing their power base because of this sensible bill to stop the spending.

The Senate BLOCKED Cap, Cut and Balance last week on a party line vote. All Republicans voted for it, and all Democrats voted against it.

Here's one that would scare the the Donkeys and RINOs: the House passes a spending bill for the U.S. government at 2006 levels and no taxes or fee increases. If Harry Reid doesn't like it, send him one for 2005 levels without taxes. Every time Reid balks, cut the budget spending levels back a year.

I think one (or more) of the ratings agencies said that unless there is a spending cut of $4 trillion, it’s downgrade time. Why even Boner is oblivious to this is beyond me.

The problem with Boehner’s plan is that it only punts the debate to next year which is fine by me but we get nothing by way of real near term cuts.

The bigger problem is that it immediately increases the debt limit by $1 trillion, which even Boner said today that they'll blow through by April next year. WTF? It's totally out of control.

Just what do the House Republicans think they can realistically get done?

They control half of Congress. It takes all of Congress, both houses, plus an Executive signature, to enact legislation.

Compromise, in this case, is NOT a dirty word. Take what we can, keep the pressure on, and take both houses next November. That’s all we can realistically hope for.

But realism doesn’t seem to be a word these people understand.

The credit rating agencies are in the back pocket of Obama and the democrates.....thus their threats to put pressure on......we are watching the “socialists/Marxists” in operationa and that is what this is about.

Boehner was right to say all they want is more money....they want the dbit ceiling raised, whcih means they have more money to spend, though they deny this.

If a credit card company extends me additional credit that does not mean I have more money.....but to the Government it always means just that...and that they can spend more for raising it...and they do!
