Voters’ renewed anger at Washington spurs formation of third-party advocate groups
Washington Post ^ | July 24, 2011 | Chris Cillizza

The numbers are startling.

......Given all of the above, advocates of a third party — or at the very least another viable option in the 2012 presidential race — seem to be sprouting up all over.

[snip]

The two most prominent are Americans Elect, a group aimed at winning ballot access for an eventual third-party candidate, and No Labels, an organization filled with high-profile names — including former George W. Bush media consultant Mark McKinnon and former Kentucky state treasurer Jonathan Miller — designed as an online home for the politically disaffected. “If you build it (ballot access), they (candidates and voters) will come,” McKinnon said in an e-mail.

No Labels says it advocates for bipartisan solutions to problems and not a third-party presidential candidate

[snip]

“I think you need an appealing big name, an experienced candidate to capture people’s imagination and for the movement to organize around,” said Mark Salter, a longtime aide to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and a member of No Labels.

What would that candidate look like? “A sane, experienced [Ross] Perot,” Salter said.

[snip]

The only name mentioned who fits Salter’s “sane [and] experienced” description is New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I), although it’s hard to imagine what exactly Bloomberg’s support base would look like in a national race. Businessman Donald Trump, who recently said he might run as an independent, doesn’t meet the Salter standard.

So although the climate is ripe for a third-party candidacy, it’s not at all clear that such a campaign would function as anything other than a spoiler for one of the two parties’ nominees...

This No Label group and its named people caught my eye.

Former Bush and McCain operatives are looking for disaffected people?

And they like what they see in Michael Bloomberg?

Interesting.

The article mentions that each state has its own candidate qualifications to get on the ballot.

The list of 3rd party operations mentioned in the Washington Post piece:

Americans Elect
No Labels
Votocracy
Centrist Alliance
Unity08 [(Peter Ackerman now backing Americans Elect]

The Dems would love a 3rd party. Divide and conquer.

I anticipate the demise of the GOP within the next few years, and the rise of a second party. None of these listed though are legitimate though, and are purely meant to siphon votes. Odious, treacherous, feeble and foul as the GOP is as an institution, that club of rotten wood is the only weapon in the arsenal at the moment, and we do not have time to put it down.

“Former Bush and McCain operatives are looking for disaffected people?”

And if that is not sufficient evidence that the voodoo Republicans -always- meant to betray conservatives, I don’t know what is. Perhaps the memoirs celebrating their roles in establishing the North American Union.

The DemocRATs know their only hope is to split the conservative vote. They desperately want a third-party bid by a Ross Perot.

Ain't happenin' this time.

Their only chance to survive.

Third party isn’t needed. Another sweep of Congress is needed while we retake the GOP. We made significant gains in November and rooted out many.

3rd party is ‘divide and conquer’ mentality. (imo)

If a third party erupts, the Republicans can thank nobody but themselves. They were told what to do in 2010 and they are not listening to we the people.

It’s looking pretty much cut and dried that 0bammers will lose any 2 way race,

so, the left, and that’s what these “no labels” people are - leftists, is agitating for a third party to split the anti-0bama vote.

EXPLOSIVE REPORT - 2011 Chicago Elections - 59% Ballot Boxes Unsealed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Will My Vote Count in 2012? Explosive report on the security of Chicago elections.

Chicago Illinois, July 22, 2011: “Vote early and vote often” is the infamous phrase attributed to Chicago elections going back to the days of William Hale Thompson, mayor of Chicago from 1915 to 1923 and again from 1927 to 1931.

“Will my vote count?” That is the question teams of pollwatchers set out to answer during the first ever citizen-run security assessment of the Chicago Board of Election’s processes and procedures. On April 5th, 2011 - Election Day for the municipal runoff elections - 239 precincts were evaluated according to the CBE’s security procedures. 215 of these (90%) failed in at least one of 11 security procedures, and most of them failed in more than one area. Incredibly, 139 (59%) did not secure the ballot box to the ballot scanning device!

On Thursday, July 28th (5-7pm) at the Chicago Union League Club, we will release this explosive report! The report outlines severe lapses in security around the seals that protect memory devices on election equipment.

Besides Election Day procedures, we will discuss how the Chicago Board employs non-citizens to run some early voting sites in Chicago. In addition, the CBE is non-compliant in Federal I-9 regulations for identifying the legal status of workers operating polling places for early voting. Hundreds of 1-9’s of these employees do not identify their legal right to work. Why are these forms not filled out correctly? If the CBE cannot get the simple I-9 forms filled out, how effective are they in maintaining secure elections?

The results of this audit of Chicago elections has inspired Defend the Vote, along with various Tea Party groups, to work with voters across Illinois to launch the first citizen-driven security assessment of voting processes across the State’s 110 election districts.

We frequently do not get to ask “if” our vote was tampered with. How can we assess vulnerabilities when there is no data collected by election officials? Security procedures for elections remain largely unavailable to the public. Defend the Vote and the groups joining us aim to change that before the 2012 November election.

On Primary Day in March 2012, thousands of voters across Illinois will conduct a statewide security audit of election processes and procedures at their polling place. While a portion of the audit will look at Election Day procedures, the entire process of elections in Illinois will be assessed, including early voting, absentee voting, nursing home voting, warehouse storage, and inventory and shipping procedures. Security measures around the machines and their memory devices will be reviewed and documented as part of a system-wide vulnerability assessment.

For too long, voters in Illinois have uttered the phrase we are infamous for “vote early and vote often.” In 2012 voters across the state of Illinois will step up to hold their local election authorities accountable for holding honest and transparent elections.

Join us on July 28th to learn more!

Oh, please...

The anti-gun, pro-gay, pro-muslim Bloomberg became a "republican" in the NY mayoral race so he wouldn't have to face anyone in the dems' primary. He may have an (I) by his name, but so did Ralph Nader. Bloomberg's as lib as any of them.
