Obama: Stop insults and compromise over debt (Stop Lying Obama)
msnbc ^ | 7/23/2011 | msnbc

Posted on 07/23/2011 6:09:07 AM PDT by tobyhill

Barack Obama called Saturday for an end to insults and demands in the negotiations over the debt ceiling, after they broke down Friday night.

In his weekly address, ahead of an emergency meeting at the White House Saturday morning, the president said that the government had spent more money than it takes in for year and result was "a lot of debt on our nation's credit card."

This debt would "weaken our economy, cause higher interest rates for families, and force us to scale back things like education and Medicare" unless action was taken, Obama said.

"Now, folks in Washington like to blame one another for this problem," he said. "But the truth is, neither party is blameless. And both parties have a responsibility to do something about it.

"Democrats and Republicans have to work together. It means we need to put aside our differences to do what's right for the country," Obama added.

"We can come together for the good of the country and reach a compromise; we can strengthen our economy and leave for our children a more secure future," he said. "Or we can issue insults and demands and ultimatums at each another, withdraw to our partisan corners, and achieve nothing."

I understand your desire to have Boehner not show up, but it would be counter-productive with independents.

Last night, BO was juvenile, petulant and even demanding the MSM write their stories the way he wants; if that does anger the MSM prostitutes, nothing will.

By contrast, Boehner was calm, adult, reasoned - the adult in the room. Attending a short non-productive meeting today won’t undermine that posture; not showing up would.

The RATS are in real trouble, the clock is ticking, and the GOP is holding firm for the 1:1 deal.

FTA: "Now, folks in Washington like to blame one another for this problem," he said. "But the truth is, neither party is blameless. And both parties have a responsibility to do something about it."

Sorry, I don't buy that. I agree that both parties share the blame, but I can't say they share it equally, not by a long shot. Especially given that the Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and the White House and did nothing about the problem. Indeed, the Pelosi/Reed/Obama trio made things a whole lot worse.

Do you really, really want more revenue? It's within the purview of the Executive Branch -- no Legislative Branch action required -- to cause this economy to grow, and increase tax income (not tax rates) as a result. It's simple, it's easy, and can be done with a stroke of a pen: Eliminate long-lead-time, excessive, and shifting regulations.

(Do a GOOD job of it, not a half-assed attempt like we've seen to date. Slash several tens of thousand pages out of the Code of Federal Regulations for a start. Free up a shelf. I dare you.)

Now, for those people who are puzzled how regulations can affect the economy, let me explain. When someone wants to start a business, expand a business, or create an offshoot of a business, the first thing that entrepreneur has to do is prepare a business plan. The business plan identifies the potential market, probable sales schedule, the labor and materials needed to meet the sales schedule, the costs of doing business, the projected profit, the rates of return on money investments, and the sources for the initial capital for the venture. The business plan also has to identify the risks, and give some indication about how those risks are minimized. The business plan also needs to provide a timeline for each step in successfully launching the plan.

In a stable economy and business environment, writing a business plan is a hard task in and of itself, taking weeks or months of effort and cross-checking and sometimes navel-gazing to put together a believable plan, let alone an accurate one.

With a turbulent economy, such as the one we are in, yesterday's assumptions are out the window tomorrow because of tectonic shifts in the business environment today. The market may dry up because people just don't have money for what you want to sell. Your costs can rise through the roof, and the worst of it is that those costs can rise at a fingersnap (think Obamacare). Money may not be there, because the banks are scared. Raw materials may be tied up in bureaucratic red tape. The list goes on.

When Warren Buffet reads your business plan, it had better be accurate and up-to-date, or he'll just round-file it. That's true for the local bank's loan officer, too, assuming they feel comfortable loaning out money...because their world is shaking like a boat in a hurricane as well. (Hey, banks are in business, too, and the same thing that makes the new-business guy's life hard goes double for them.)

Why aren't there jobs, Mr. President? Have you considered that taking bets in the current business climate faces worse odds than that same money put on double-zero on the roulette wheel at any major Reno or Las Vegas casino? And, that government regulation is the reason the odds are so against winning?

Here's the kicker: one thing that throws a business plan out of kilter -- sometimes fatally so -- is unexpected delays. Material is late. Getting the people you need takes longer than expected. And, most importantly, all the permits, licenses, permissions and inspections by government at all levels takes absolutely forever.

(When I had a home business writing magazine articles, it took three days and 15 gallons of gas to get all the necessary papers to earn my living. Why did the health department need to inspect my word processor?)

That's assuming you get "permission" in the first place. Think of all the off-shore drilling rigs who have left the Gulf because the regulators can't get their act together...assuming the plan is not to completely shut down drilling in the Gulf. Regulatory delay is a business-killer...especially if it's unpredictable. Double-zero looks more and more attractive all the time...and that doesn't do much for expanding revenue, does it?

So, if you want more revenue, Mr. President, you can start in your own little part of Washington DC,. Trim those regulations. Streamline the processes. Reduce to a minimum the time from submission to acceptance or rejection. Cut down the paperwork. Make everything predictable.

Or leave things as they are. And deal with it.

Didn't Obama say in his press conference Friday evening that his aides would take reporters “out back” or something like that an show them the documentation proving his points about Republican bad faith... Where are are the articles that should be on the wire this morning supporting his position if, in fact, he was telling the truth. The huge silence we hear this morning indicates he was making things up AGAIN. This guy tells tales like my seven-year-old grandson... He needs to be called to task like a child and his claims publicly authenticated or rejected. Isn't there a reporter out there who will press the issue?

All he does is throw insults and lies.

Does he hear himself speak? Did he read his surrogates responses to Boehner breaking off negotiations?

Vile, despicable and childish.

I’m in the interior design world and one of our best most famous suppliers went bankrupt. This was a very high end company whose products for decades have been used in the best houses - from the White House ... to my house - (but then I get it wholesale). The whole industry is shaking in it’s boots. Once bustling design centers have become tombs.

When high end suppliers to the affluent are in trouble I just see it as a sign of what truly deep do do we are in.

ALL the guy does is to ridicule, mock, diminish, and belittle anyone or anything HE does not agree with - and NOW he is telling “people” to stop it?

Hey 0bama, iI can’t make out what your telling us now since it was you who “put us in the back of the bus” and it was you who told us “I WON YOY LOST”.

This IS the discourse of your choosing, stop being Princess Thin Skin and man up to deal with the situation that was created by YOU.

When I pass a jackass on the road who has one of those bumper stickers, I return the insult by passing by them while scratching my cheek with my middle finger.

Very fitting.

When I showed those videos to a liberal guy I work with, he just couldn't believe Dick Obama was doing it on purpose.
