During his town hall meeting in Maryland today on the debt crisis, President Obama found time to answer critics who think his position (and positions) have a socialist flavor. And he joked about it.
This isnt just some wild-eyed socialist position, its the position being taken by people of both parties and no party, he said with with a smirk as the audience chuckled and after talking about shared sacrifice:
Obama seems well aware of his critics. For example, on radio today Glenn Beck labeled the president a Marxist.
Less than two weeks away from a debt ceiling deadline, President Barack Obama sought Friday to pressure House Republicans to come around to a deal that he insisted must include new taxes which he calls revenues as well as spending cuts.
At the same time, even with no clear end in sight to negotiations that have dragged on for weeks, the president asserted that the U.S. has never defaulted on its debt and wont do so now.

... its the position being taken by people of both parties and no party... Okay, so a lot of people believe it. How does that prove it is not a 'wild-eyed socialist position'?

It’s quite common on NPR for hosts and guests to express amazement that anyone considers Obama to have anything like “left-wing” sensibilities. Why! He’s not left-wing at all! Thoroughly mainstream! Right down the middle of the road! Just ask NPR, they’ll tell you.

Raise taxes? You’re gonna see the Laffer Curve on steroids, Bro. Don’t assume that you’ll get an additional dime from the productive/achievers that you’ve denigrated these past 30 months.
Raise my taxes? UP YOURS!

OK we’ll have a Union dues tax. 20% of Union dues collected go toward reducing the public debt.
