China's military is developing electromagnetic pulse weapons that Beijing plans to use against U.S. aircraft carriers in any future conflict over Taiwan, according to an intelligence report made public on Thursday.
Portions of a National Ground Intelligence Center study on the lethal effects of electromagnetic pulse (EMP) and high-powered microwave (HPM) weapons revealed that the arms are part of Chinas so-called assassins mace arsenal - weapons that allow a technologically inferior China to defeat U.S. military forces.
EMP weapons mimic the gamma-ray pulse caused by a nuclear blast that knocks out all electronics, including computers and automobiles, over wide areas. The phenomenon was discovered in 1962 after an aboveground nuclear test in the Pacific disabled electronics in Hawaii.
The declassified intelligence report, obtained by the private National Security Archive, provides details on Chinas EMP weapons and plans for their use. Annual Pentagon reports on China's military in the past made only passing references to the arms.

Thanks, mark.
The Chi-Coms have been gearing up to fight us for quite some time now (thanks, Bubba Clinton, for sending the Chi-Coms so much of our top secret technology in exchange for campaign contribitions: You f***ing pr*ck!).
So - how exactly would China deal with the US wiping out their power grid and electronics with an EMP response?
If they up did up the ante with an EMP then they would have be living in the dark ages for a long time.
And after that, missile three gorges dam. I am not even kidding.

Vacuum tubes are impervious to an EMP attack........

I don’t beleive they are intimidated by 0bama at all.
I just hope the “quality” of Chinese goods hasn’t changed!
Barkey will pass...
...unless they are shielded (and they are).
When they see Obama they see a weak, half witted sellout. They know Bammy Boy only cares about domestic issues such as wealth re-distribution and reparations and winning elections. China has seen how Bammy Boy cravenly sold out to Russia and Iran
As long as everything is shielded and grounded, no problem.
Ping of interest?
What most Americans haven’t been told, is that by now, China has several hundred mobiles that can accurately hit any part of our USA. As for anti-ship missiles, China has sought to manufacture enough of them to overwhelm carrier groups’ defenses (in essence, run ‘em out of ammo then hit ‘em).
The canard from leaders has been, “But the Chinese aren’t that smart.” That goes against military doctrine that they’ve all had opportunities to learn. IMO, we need to build more and better defenses instead of wasting so much fuel whenever threats are perceived.
Quite a few measures have been taken to protect military electronic equipment. Improvements should always be made, though.
China better wake up. These fools do not realize that America, no matter how weak we are now, is holding this world in check. Destroy us and they will be destroyed by the rest of the world. Islam!!!!!!!!!
Exactly right. And they despise 0bama. In their eyes he is the lowest of the low. In turn, they look at the American people with wonder that we could be so stupid and self destructive. They wonder why America is comitting suicide.
Look on the bright side. When china starts knocking our satellites out, we can all sit around and wonder why we no longer have a space program.
Most modern cars have a very sophisticated microcontroller managing the engine to optimize fuel economy and limit pollution. EMP would destroy it. The vehicle would be a boat anchor until the blown electronics were replaced.
