God watch over and keep safe the crew.

I always enjoyed the double boom when I was physically in Los Angeles and the Shuttle landed at Edwards. I felt I was a participant, of sorts...

But I have been on the East Coast for lo these many years and now might never experience that participation again.

*sigh*

Godspeed, Atlantis. May your landing be light of foot and gentle for your crew...

I stand Up after Pulling in My Sun Roof.. I stop at a 7-11 and ask if any launches scheduled for tonight ..He says I Dunno.. I Figure out later on it was a Military Satelite Launch..haha

It is a shame that I didn't get to see those birds launch in person. Oh well should have moved to Florida.

I know what you mean, when I was in 1st grade in 1981, on the day after the first space shuttle launched we were given a Space Shuttle Notebook (which I still have). I always wanted to see a launch, the closest I came was in the early 1990's when I was in college, we had gone down to Florida for Spring Break and planned to watch the launch, but it was delayed and we had to go back before they rescheduled it.

Yea, well we could finish the job started if we’d stop spending American money on building Islamic Mosques...both here and around the world.

I am having a hard time watching this....just sad.

It still don’t make any sense to me.

Why retire the Shuttle before it’s replacement is ready?

I didn’t get here for the first one, but I’ve been here testing Shuttle downlink telemetry systems since STS8. I was sure hoping to still be here to test the new Vehicle’s telemetry, but how long is that going to be?

Heartbreaking.

I had the privileged of seeing the Destiny Lab module of the ISS before it was launched.

And I saw a Beautiful night launch of Atlantis.

I have been following the Space program since 1961.

It is sadly ironic that someone supposedly born in that year (God Knows WHERE) is bringing all to an end. (sigh)

Mission control just played the wake-up call:

Crew Prepares for Final Shuttle Landing Wed, 20 Jul 2011 07:41:03 PM MDT

Space shuttle Atlantis’ wakeup song for landing day was “God Bless America” by Kate Smith, played at 9:29 p.m. EDT, for the entire crew and all the men and women who have worked for the shuttle program over the years. Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley and Mission Specialists Sandy Magnus and Rex Walheim will begin deorbit preparations a little before 1 a.m. EDT for their planned landing at 5:56 a.m. at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

The STS-135 landing ground tracks for Thursday’s two Kennedy landing opportunities are here: http://1.usa.gov/qtBmwx

Here is my favorite shuttle video. I doubt anyone can watch this and not feel proud. May we get back there soon.

I’m a NYer, but I was in Orlando with my Godchildren when the last, ill-fated Columbia mission launched. Even from 60 miles away, watching a shuttle launch, and the fire in the sky, was an amazing sight that brought tears to my eyes; it made me so proud to be an American.

And now, given our current President and the deadly path he has put us on, I am seriously considering Canadian citizenship. Alberta is looking pretty good right now.

Godspeed, NASA. You did amazing things and don’t deserve your current fate.

Forty-two years ago, virtually to the hour, JFK made NASA give America

One Giant Step!

Tomorrow morning Obama makes NASA give America

The One's Last Step!

It will come when the fourth and final astronaut touches earth after exiting Atlantis. As of that point the Soviets will have won the space race. Maybe the DC chapter can position a motion detector near Arlington's eternal flame because JFK will be spinning in his grave. And Obama will be flashing his Carter II grin. Another MIssion Accomplished for the Manchurian Marxist.
