Should Rick Perry conclude that voter discontent has left him an opening to enter the presidential race, the Texas governor would be among the Republican field's most conservative candidates.
Rick Perry rejects the idea of global warming and the theory of evolution, arguing for natural climate variations and intelligent design of the universe.
He branded Social Security and other New Deal safety net programmes "the second big step in the march of socialism," according to a book published last year. The "first step" was a national income tax, which he has said stands alongside the direct election of US senators as a major mistake among the amendments to the US Constitution.
In the just-completed Texas legislative session, Perry's "emergency items" included laws that require a photo ID in order to vote, a sonogram before a woman had an abortion and enforcement of federal immigration laws by local police.
Texas is the only state that has refused to put in place the EPA's new rules regulating carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases.

Oh? Then how'd we go through THREE legislative sessions this year without even ONE anti-illegal immigration bill making it to Perry's desk?
Tell me that he doesn't have that kind of influence over the legislature, and I'll call you a damn liar.
> puke...
Amen...and anyone especially a Texas white male who stays liberal till age 41...through the Reagan revolution
is simply not reliable for us...folks like me and you
Give me either woman...I’m 90% Sarah...80% mIchelle...either with Rubio vp
God I never dreamed I would say that about my choice for president
Goes against my instinct....but there it is
Sorry, he has a “politician” haircut. I can’t vote for a guy who can’t even go out on a limb when it comes to getting his hair done.
The more I hear about Perry, the less I like him.
I want Bachmann to get the nomination.
She is the most qualified on political credentials.
2005 Houston Chronicle pic depicting Perry as an advocate for
"affordable housing," and "lending law reform" (read sub-prime defaults).
(Some of Perry's choices for WH jobs?)
REFERENCE Federal government grants to ACORN---2003-2006
I guess Perry knew all about these (/snix):
<><> Dept of Housing and Urban Development: $8.2 million between 2003 and 2006; $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.
<><> EPA $100,000 grant to ACORN in 2004 for a Louisiana Justice Project, which removed lead from the homes of low income families.
<><> Justice Dept grant in 2005 for a juvenile delinquency program.
===================================
According to later research, 40% of ACORN's operations were found to be funded through numerous grants it receives from various governmental entities. ACORN also receives funding from a variety of tax-exempt private charitable organizations: the Bauman Family Foundation, George Soros' Open Society Institute, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and from corporate foundations, including JP Morgan Chase Foundation, Ben & Jerry's foundation, Bank of America Charitable Foundation, and Citigroup, as well as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and tax-exempt foundations affiliated with the founder of UPS.
=======================================
Senate Finance Committee Study (led by Sen Charles Grassley)
ACORN comprises a mind-boggling 94 different affiliates, that amounts to "a big shell game," a biting Senate Finance Committee study shows.
The study, by the staff of Sen Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), reveals four ACORN charity groups give more than half their revenue to taxable entities that engage in "impermissible lobbying and political activity."
ACORN and its subsidiaries for decades have moved taxpayer money into their own pockets and into the left-wing Marxist machine.
Sen Charles Grassley's documents show leaders of ACORN community groups transferred several million dollars in charitable and government money-----meant for the poor---- to parts of the group that have political (and sometimes profit-making) missions.
Sen Grassley's documents indicate that ACORN's tax-exempt groups----along with its tangled web of allied organizations---- used more than half their charitable and public money in 2006 to pay other ACORN affiliates.
ACORN also appears to have been involved in improper use of pension funds ..... some of the founder Rathke's embezzlment was apparently taken from the pension fund using ACORN's American Express card.
This displacement of funding ledto the creation of a complex repayment system in which accused embezzler Dale Rathke owed ACORN, and ACORN in turn, owed ABA, which, for its part, wrote off part of the money. (Excerpt) Read more at spectator.org ........

Perry endorsed 2008 prez candidate Rudy Giuliani (RINO ex-Dem who is persona non grata on FR).
On the 'strong' side, the RINO Perry was chosen by Karl Rove and Al Gore.
On the negative side, Perry polled BELOW Allahpundit and Krauthammer.
Well, yes, philosophically, but apparently GWB scorns Perry, or other Bushes do, not sure.
That’s right, we didn’t vote “for” Perry, we voted against his Democrat opponents for all the offices in which he ran.
Rick Perry thanked by Vicente Fox for illegals in-state tuition.
So, who are you two for?
The point was, no one is perfect. If you look hard enough at a politicians record you will ALWAYS find stuff you disagree with.
We can only vote for those who are actually running, not some mythical “perfect” conservative that doesn’t exist, never held office (so no record), or isn’t running.
Of the ones that are actually running, or thought to soon be running Perry is our best hope for electing the most conservative person possible this cycle.
I know nothing about Perry. I haven’t watched or followed how he has governed Texas. As a primarily moral/social conservative I am willing to give him a look. I will not outright reject him. One of the nice things about being “undecided.”
I have noticed a disturbing trend here on FR. First, let me state that I would like to see Palin run because she brings excitment and zest to the race. However, on FR if anyone other than Palin is mentioned, a vast majority go out of their way to denigrate the candidate. It is an almost fanatical blindness to anything but Sarah. This is not rational thinking. Palin may be the best candidate, I honestly don’t have a set opinion. However, this thrashing of anyone except Palin is way over the top. On the reverse, I grow tried of the trashing of Palin by proponents of other candidates. There is an alarming lack of civility in the GOP.
Of course, I must accept my share of guilt. I am sincere when I say I will examine the candidate (once all declared) and support the one most morally/socially conservative. However, I WILL NOT bad mouth other real conservatives in the race. Ultimately, it is self defeating. Folks, we are NEVER going to get a candidate will all like 100%. I just want to avoid a candidate that most of us dislike 100% like Romney.
Perry: all words, no action, unless he’s running for election. Anyone who thinks anything would be done about the illegal invaders other than a blanket amnesty with a pretty name will be sorely disappointed.
The TX gov. race last year was the Bushes v. Perry and Perry won.
Like I've posted on FR several times, I'm not from TX (and I have noticed the TX FReepers are pretty much split as to whether they like/dislike Perry), but overall, compared to many others on the GOP side and certainly compared to the current douche POTUS, I'd take him any day of the week.
He's not perfect (but then, who is?), but can he win? I suspect “yes” - a repeat of the GWB EV map should do it.
Four more years of Soetoro or a Milt-type and it's game over for the USA.
I also like McCotter and Paul Ryan, but they have flaws: McCotter is pro-Union and Ryan voted for TARP. Those are biggies.
Well stated!
Oh R’ly. That little statement makes me tend to want to vote against him.
My understanding is that the financial shape of Texas is pretty bad, (like the bottom 40 of the states) its debt is huge second to California and its teetering on default.
http://www.mysanantonio.com/default/article/Texas-budget-choices-require-our-immediate-action-1315291.php
So I don’t understand why Perry is touted as a fiscal conservative. To me it seems that he is not.
