Thanks for the link. From what I know this article is right on the money. Each day I’m telling the campaign we need 10,000 hats for the Straw Poll. I know they’re considering it but they need to hustle.

Personally, I think a VERY winnable team for 2012 would be Perry/Rubio! For those who might not think highly of them, consider what we have. Perry/Rubio would be far far better for our country than what we have and just possibly the team to win the most Independent votes.

His refusal to deal with illegals is one reason I’m not enthusiastic about Perry. He is solid on abortion, overall better than McCain, and electable, but he isn’t the most principled conservative candidate in the race.

There is NO way the Tea Party will support Gardasil-by-my-MANDATE-Perry. No way. Ever.
You are very wrong about this.
I'm not a Rick Perry fan, although he's not the worst option. I've voiced my concerns about Gov. Perry here before. He sure talks purty while running for office and he CAN be drugged along when necessary. I would prefer a real conservative instead of someone that plays one on TV. Perry knows what it means to be a convervative, and he knows the political advantage of sounding like one. He can talk the talk. He doesnt nearly always walk the walk, and even when he does, he often needs an escort.
That said, Gov. Perry was one of the first politicians to realize the potential of the Tea Party Movement. Remember, the Tea Parties started organizing in force around tax day, 2009, and were focused on Washington. You had new "activists" getting involved and forming groups out of thin air. Gov. Perry was expected to be in a much tighter Primary fight than he actually was. His people fanned out and gave these fledgling Tea Parties their time and the Gov's personal attention. It was politically shrewd in that it checked both KBH and Debra Medina.
I have been a speaker at several Tea Party events in Texas. I know many of their leaders. Several of them believe that Rick Perry helped them found their movements by giving their organizations critical help while they were forming. They believe he was essential to their fight against Washington in 2009 and 2010.
No Tea Party will support Rick Perry? Many here in Texas already have, do, and will.

I can see a Perry/Rubio ticket absolutely drubing Obama in a presidential race. That would be awesome!!
To: normy
Is it ok for a person to back a candidate and post news about them without having a handful of people running from thread to thread to disrupt them? We don't run to Palin threads to bash her.
Did Perry and Palin announce? They are "candidates" now? I did not know that.....
Post a thread about Perry (who is not running) and some Texans will show up and point out Perry's past. Post a bunch of threads time and again about non-candidate Perry as CW does and if we run across them we will point out Perry's flaws along with the other comments.
I'm not running "from thread to thread to disrupt them" when it comes to Perry. I'm hitting thread after thread about Perry liked they are speed bumps in a cheap apartment complex. You can't get away from them because someone is posting them over and over. You post on FR, you get responses. That's the way it works around here. You post about the SAME topic over and over you get a bunch of responses.
Nobody gets a free reign around here and if you start pimping someone like Rick Perry other are going to point out your pink caddy with curb feelers, the feather in your hat and the 40 you are sipping on.

His refusal to deal with illegals is one reason Im not enthusiastic about Perry. Would you please put some meat on those bones so I can respond?
To: 9YearLurker
The problem is one has to get elected first. That is the hard part and there is no encouragement that Palin can win a general election. Her unfavorables are too high.
She is too polarizing and it may be no fault of her own but that doesn't matter, the perception is there and perception becomes reality.
To: 9YearLurker
I've disagreed with the media consensus that Perry will hurt Bachmann and Pawlenty. I'm of the belief that he does hurt Romney (a good thing), as even posts by the OP have claimed.
Now, I'm still not certain Perry is going to run although media reports are mostly indicating otherwise. What I don't see is any enthusiasm for his entrance, outside of some posters here. Maybe that really doesn't matter, IDK.
What I have seen is a fairly steady promotion of the Governor from Fox News, seemingly with pro Perry stories everyday.

His baseline resume a two and a half term governor from a high-growth state has appeal. But once they start coming to know Perry directly I can guarantee that theyre not going to warm to him at all.So who do you think they will warm up to?

If it’s the general, lots on the fence will stick with Obama.
If it’s the primary, I’m now giving him an at least equal shot with Romney and Palin. I really think our candidate will end up being one of the three. And I’ll volunteer further my bias: I think Palin is the one of those three who can beat Obama.

"Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border."Sheeeyit. Who do you think The TMPA is going to tell its members to vote for in 2012.

I bet they’ll support Perry if it comes to a choice between him and some of the other Repub choices. And they’ll sure support him over Barack Obama.
