Ive been hearing whispers that Michele Bachmanns husband, Marcus, is gay for a while. Its now exploding into a full-on meme.
Given my early bedtime, Im always at least a day late on Daily Show bits. Last night, I saw this episode from Wednesday:

Now, I admit, Marcus Bachmann is pudgy and has a less-than-baritone voice. But, last I checked, those arent the distinguishing characteristics of homosexuality.
Apparently, gay activist Dan Savage has started pushing the meme hard, too. And Slates June Thomas is calling him out:
Dan Savage begins each of his Savage Love Cast podcasts with a rip-roaring ranta sword of invective aimed at homophobic school boards that wont let lesbians attend their high-school prom, hypocritical politicians, and generally despicable people. Its a rousing start to 45 minutes of sex advice, and its usually right on and empowering.
This week, though, the podcast started with an attack on Marcus Bachmanns masculinity. After a short preamble about the accuracy of gaydar (with a scientific citation, no less), Savagewhom I respect tremendouslyplayed a tape of Micheles* husbands speaking voice. Bachmann has a tiny bit of a lispthough its barely perceptibleand he slurs his words slightly. To Savages ears, it was a gay accent. Savage played the tape over and over, and reprised it several times throughout the podcast. He even did his own Bachmann impression, exaggerating the lisp and camping it up.

Hahaha ... And, yes, I agree!
For some reason you are fixated on the evil of helping homosexuals who want to become cured. What is the wrong in this, I don’t get it.
You would prefer that no one help them in this manner? Let them die of AIDS and stay immersed in mental illness and sexual perversion?
My having a placemark is curious?
I’m sorry, no.
There are countless numbers of former homosexuals. If the lie that homosexual are born that way was not shoved down everyones' throats, even more would want to leave the "gay" life and become normal human beings.
You either think you're funny by talking weird racist crap or you believe weird racist crap.
What is wrong with people. They’re either drunk, on drugs, or something else.
What was curious, then, since you responded to my comment?
Interesting. The activist gays sure seem to be defending it.
It is a medical condition. It can be treated somehow. It hasn’t been studied biologically too much I don’t think. Levels of hormones in gay and straight, those kinds of things.
Comparing biologically the levels of certain materials in the blood and urine. brain scans, etc etc. there is very likely to be biological differences somewhere. I’d start with testosterone shots and estrogen blockers for gay men and estrogen shots and testosterone blockers for gay women. See what that does? See if there are higher levels of certain chemicals in the gay blood. BPA? The Bachmann thing might give us an opportunity to talk about the gay illness more seriously if we seriously believe that a lot of gays do want to be cured. Bachmann can say that gays do want to be cured, although he might not be able to say he’s really great at it. And it wouldn’t be a bad idea to start talking about treating gay with medicine.
No, I’m saying that medicine should be used to cure gay. A scientific cure for gay. Maybe even a federal program. Not that I would support that candidate, but some definitely would.
Marcus Bachmann’s “pray the gay away” just doesn’t work as well as a scientific cure would work.
I would still happily vote for Bachmann in Nov 12. She won’t be there, but she would try to do the right tea party thing.
I’m just vetting the candidates. If the first spouse acts like a flaming homosexual, it’s not good. People don’t want the first spouse to act like a flaming homosexual. And apparently he does. And that’s very bad for Michele. Showing a picture of the guy and putting a tape of him talking is not looking through 24,000 emails. It’s a glance at the potential first spouse. And add in the fact that his job was curing gays with prayer, and you just have a hilarious hilarious story. The media really dug and dug and dug. Michele’s own wikipedia page has funny stuff on it. If anyone wanted to just take a close look at her resume, especially pre 2000, you will not see anything good.
In terms of Palin, I have no idea if Todd had a full time job. Does that matter? Would that be a good thing? Since 2008 he definitely hasn’t needed a job. Could probably live on a Governor’s salary. I bet feminists would like that, husband stays home, takes care of the kids. I know dog sled races, and fishing. and maybe oil or mining? And I don’t really care how long he did that for. If I was doing that, I’d think I’d quit as soon as I could. It’s a solid solid extremely normal and good resume there. Even the bad stuff is often a wonderful story.
I am really tired of the attacks on the Bachmanns—
These attacks seems to be happening weekly—wasn’t last week’s attack dealing with a clinic that her husband donates to or runs that deals with helping patients to turn from homosexuality....??
I am beginning to think Michelle B is the candidate to back because she is the one being attacked the most; ironic because a few weeks ago, Chris Mathews was saying how wonderful she was which made me slightly suspicious....
Obama’s married to a black-supremacist Marx-spouting wookie and attended a congregation where the minister spouted “God Damn America” on more than one occasion. He had all the marble blocks in the Whitehouse replaced with glass panels the day he moved in.
So no, I don’t think the Lutheran faith or praying the gay away will decide the general election. Maybe important to the nomination process if the media can make a big enough deal of them, but meaningless come next November. Social issues are way down the list for independents. Being air-tight on fiscal issues, and being able to focus attention on Obama’s record are key.
That’s how Obama got in. He could run against Bush’s public political record, and didn’t have one of his own to mine for ammo. Nobody gave a damn about his religious affiliation, citizenship status, or marxist connections because HE WASN’T BUSH, and that’s really all most people cared about. No history is better than bad history in today’s political landscape. That’s why I wouldn’t bank on someone like Perry being electable, whereas I think Bachmann or even Palin actually have a shot.
He had all the marble blocks in the Whitehouse replaced with glass panels the day he moved in.
If Obama or the left want to throw stones by playing the religion or nutty spouse card, homeboy’s living in a glass house. Fretting about either issue on our side is wasted energy, IMO.
Obama’s own party is ready to string him up, and his only hope is to run against Bush again. They won’t be able to pin the ‘borrow-and-spend’ label on Bachmann, so she’s a major threat.
I really don’t pay super close attention to which freepers tend to like which candidate, I assume you’re Bachmann, but it takes a real long time for me to remember.
This is Christine O’Donnell stuff. Worse actually. She’s running for the President of the US. If the first husband is a semi poofter, it’s a real problem. Remember Kitty Dukakis?
It’s not social conservativism, it’s “pray the gay away” +
“seems gay” at the same time, and people are thinking they’re looking at Larry Craig. Or Ted Haggart, or the stereotype of the Anti Gay Closeted Republican. There is a stereotype of that, it’s happened so often. And it really doesn’t get votes.
Palin is not truly hurt by 3 years of attacks. People think she’s stupid, maybe? She does well in a debate. Problem solved. All I hear is that she’s damaged because the media says so. But she’s the most popular and famous Republican to Republicans. And The Undefeated is selling out all over the place. The most likely of a number of scenarios is a Palin Romp. most popular, most famous, popular movie, etc etc. You’d thinks she’d just win. Oh, look, the most popular, most famous Republican won easily. Not a surprise.
You both seem more familiar with homosexuals than I am.
So, you too think homosexuals are more dangerous to America than Islam?
I think that's weird.
Maybe I missed something but I don't remember hearing that any homos bombed any buildings or killed people.
I do remember hearing that Islamists bomb and kill innocent people on a daily basis.
I remember hearing that abortion clinics have been bombed and people killed.
So, until the homos declare Jihad on us, I think I'll continue to think Islam is more of a danger to America...and you can have the homos.
You play too fast and loose with truth...ironic since truth is in your name.
You make it easy, so very easy, for some sicko on the left to label someone in order to destroy them, for political reasons.
You are spreading it.
You are part of the problem.
The Bachmanns have been married 33 years and have 5 children. Quite a few people in the area they are from know them. If someone like that is truly “gay”, others would know it, and it wouldn’t need to be theorized by some distant sicko based on someone’s body build and voice. That would be my answer to the sickos, instead of picking up the banner and running with it that Marcus Bachmann is “gay”.
It isn’t either/or...the election is still far off. I do not have to destroy Michele Bachmann in order to boost Sarah Palin, nor do I have to destroy Sarah Palin to boost Michele Bachmann.
They are both on our side and I would support either one.
Well, it’s very complicated, and I’m conflicted in this. The story has broken. It has been on Stewart, with Seinfeld. That’s how far along it’s gotten. Now, this is fatal. But it’s not immediately fatal. Not everyone has gotten the memo. But you saw what they said. Put it on SNL and make it 5x worse. And try to figure out what the impact of that will be. It will be catastrophic. I watched what happened with Christine O’Donnell. And I think this will be worse for Bachmann. She won’t get to the end. And that’s great, prop her up, until, until what. Bachmann fans will be attacking Palin fans, Palin fans will be attacking Bachmann fans. Do we want this? Listen Bachmann fans, you have a dead candidate. Once everyone accepts this, the terms of the debate should be more clear. What happens if Palin doesn’t get in? A bunch of people are going to try and carry a dead candidate for a year? Well, yes. So, don’t tear down Palin. Are we going to have to try to fight off Rick Perry with a dead candidate? Maybe, and that’s a real problem that I didn’t anticipate 3 weeks ago. If Palin doesn’t run, and if Paul somehow disappears, I can see myself supporting a candidate who could not win. That’s Bachmann. So, I’m not pleased about these unhappy details
about Bachmann’s life. Well, it’s awfully complicated now.
In some ways I’m pleased, because it could help Paul. But her falling off invites more people in other than Palin. Hopefully Bachmann can hold on, not get ripped apart too badly, still keep her reputation intact, and her status as one of the top tea party leaders, until Palin gets in, and people just naturally gravitate to Palin. And I’m saying this as a Paul supporter. More of Bachmann’s support would go to Palin then to Paul. And if there was no Palin, that support would go to Paul, but it might provide an opening for Perry. So, I don’t want Perry in there. He’s sinister.
So, very complicated. A scenario I like has Paul in, Palin in, and the establishment candidate. And Ron Paul just attacks the establishment candidate. This would result in a Palin vs Paul showdown in the Republican primary which most people would think, based on reason, would result in a Palin win. But the many debates are focused on attacking Obama.
And it’s all win. Then a Palin / Paul ticket.
So, Bachmann is fatally wounded. But it is hard to tell exactly how long it takes. Palin said keep an eye on September for an announce. I see that and say, good, Bachmann can stay alive until then. Hopefully, Palin gets in. Because if she doesn’t, there’s a real problem. Get Christine O’Donnell in there to step in for Bachmann. Because a fatally wounded Bachmann is not really strong enough to hold off Perry. Maybe it would be time to start saying good things about Gingrich. And I like Ron Paul, and it could be argued that a Bachmann collapse is good for Ron Paul. But I thought that we’d beat a stronger Bachmann, who would be strong enough to keep away Perry. And everything is just worse if Perry is in the race. At least to me, the focus of attack on Romney would shift to a focus of attack on Perry.
