Obama: 80% of Americans want higher taxes (You Lie!)
The Hill ^

Posted on 07/15/2011 10:23:00 AM PDT by quesney

President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats' demand for tax increases.

"The American people are sold," Obama said. "The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically."

Throughout the press conference, Obama blasted Republicans for ignoring what he said is the will of the American people by rejecting tax increases that would balance out spending cuts in a debt package.

"This is not an issue of salesmanship to the American people," Obama said. "I hope [Republicans are] not just listening to lobbyists and special interests ... I hope they're listening to the American people as well," Obama said, citing "poll after poll" showing Republican voters, as well as Democrats, believe in taking "a balanced approach" — including both increased revenues and spending cuts in a plan to cut the deficit.

Obama repeated his warning that the country is "running out of time" to avert a financial “Armageddon.”

"We should not even be this close on a deadline," Obama said. "This is something we should have accomplished earlier."

RE :”McConnell's trick might be our best hope. The idea is to get Obama to eat one poison pill or another. .......2) Some House conservatives won't vote for it, so if Boehner wants it to pass in the House, he may need Dem votes. If so, I am afraid he will take out meaningful tax cuts, or delay so long that Obama will use the fear of pending economic doom. If all voters were like me, not raising the debt ceiling might be a good idea, but too many are easily manipulated, unfortunately.

This bill will just be the formal surrender of the debt limit fight, especially when Boehner has to round up enough RINOs to vote with Pelosi Democrats to pass it; Much like Germans signing surrender in that French railway car in 1918. And that may very end up being their 'best' option as you, Ann Coulter and FZ all said.

Cantor and others going on TV boasting “We are not going to accept....” over and over looks pretty bad if in the end they will really willing to accept giving Obama a clean debt limit ceiling increase(with no cuts attached) , all while Obama is still on TV telling voters he wants a big deficit reduction bill with trillions of dollars of spending cuts and Republicans keep saying ‘No’. The visuals of Pelosi saying (also claiming cynically) on TV that she wants a big deficit reduction compromise with trillions of dollars of budget cuts but Republicans refuse is pretty pathetic, but this is where the Republican strategy has left them.

There is one more battle ahead maybe, the FY12 budget(FY11 ends in September), but given the last two battles (including this one) there is not much hope that Republicans will accomplish anything.

We would have been better off of Pelosi had held the House with a slim un-workable majority now, and this limit increase would have been her problem now and all Republicans would again vote against it, and Obama would have been a one-termer. Republicans have accomplished little or nothing with their victory to go to voters with next year.

On a more positive side(maybe) , Newt was on Cavuto/Your world yesterday saying how in 1995 Republicans shut down the government three times and it was wildly popular and Clinton caved under political pressure to Republican demands. He said it should be the ‘model’ for victory now. The guest moderator made some faces, but decided not to challenge him on the story.

See??, 16 years from now Boehner and Canter may recall a huge victory from this as a model for the new Republican congress.

I found a great tutorial for PaintShopPro, but the ones I’m finding for Gimp aren’t all that great. I prefer video that I can download and look at any time, and the ones on YouTube are pitiful. The best I’ve found are the step-by-step written ones. There’s more than one way to do it with Gimp, so try a few different ones and see what works best for you.

Pole after pole, he pulled from that orifice, and each one had the same s#$@ all over it. He went to an augurer, who interpreted his fecal residue on the poles to mean “raise taxes.”

It’s only a nice discussion with participates, thanks for joining. : )

“Is that what you want, moshiach? Bigger government? Myself, I’m much in favor of a much smaller government and a much more prosperous and productive private sector. So I want zero corporate income tax. How about you?”

Congress borrowing trillions grows government. Unless you end the borrowing, you can have all taxes to 0% and government will still grow.

I want to end Congress ability to borrow trillions to grow. And end Corporations ability to dam up trillions in dollars; which disrupts the circulation of dollars in the US economy. Giving Bernanke the power to print more money for “circulation.” Lol this must be a running joke. Since he has printed new money many times and no money gets circulated but the Corporate dams get bigger.

“We need to eliminate the Capital gains tax, and ALL corporate taxes. Then, cut the Federal budget until it balances.”

Congress can cut the Federal budget to zero, it wont balance. The interest on the $14,504,612,457,981 trillion debt can’t even be paid without borrowing.

Congress needs to stop borrowing for the Federal budget to be balanced. As I stated in a previous post, you can set all taxes to zero, it wont stop government from growing if it can still borrow.

I appreciate you being willing to discuss, but if I read your post correctly, all you did was restate your position, totally avoiding the information I contributed. If that is all you’re going to do then I don’t see a conversation existing and I’ll just move on.

Thanks for the civility, though.

RE :"McConnell's plan forces 0bama to either prove himself a liar, or actually cut when he says he wants to cut. [He will under no circumstances cut, and his reelection chances will go down in flames if he proves himself a liar.] McConnell's gambit was brilliant."

This is the weakest point in your comment. It is not 'brilliant' it is more like 'surrender to avoid more casualties'. Sadly Republicans may end up where this is their best option, but only if they lost.

Tomorrow is Sunday and we will see if Republicans have improved their messaging on the shows.

McConnell knows what the situation is in the Senate. He also knows the President always has an advantage over the Congress with the Press, and this one owns the Fifth Column, er, Fourth Estate, completely. He had the opportunity to force 0bama to show himself the liar he is, despite a fairly weak hand. It was indeed brilliant.

Here’s about the easiest tutorial I’ve found on eliminating backgrounds in Gimp. It’s from Gimp.org’s own tutorial site. Use the original image (the flower) and play around with it. You’ll likely have to keep selecting areas around the flower until all that’s highlighted is the flower itself. Hit [delete] and see what you get. If there’s still unwanted background, go to [Edit] [Undo delete], and keep working.

Once you have the selection you want, go to [Select] [Invert] (at least that’s where the [Invert] command is in my version (Gimp portable). Once you’ve inverted the selection, you should be able to copy, paste the selection into a NEW IMAGE. This last portion isn’t explained in the tutorial, but is needed, otherwise all you’ll get is a transparent background as the new image without inverting first.

Photos with busy backgrounds will be a lot more time consuming to do this way because you have to select each individual unwanted color.
