One man was killed and another injured early Thursday morning in Aliquippa after gunfire broke out during a robbery attempt on the street.
Jiwan Bailey, 19, of Penn Hills, was killed by a bullet to the chest, according to Aliquippa police Chief Ralph Pallante.
The chief said Mr. Bailey and two others tried to rob Lucien Roberts, 26, and Brian Elmore Jr., 21, both of Aliquippa, around 2:14 a.m. in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue.
When someone in the trio pulled a gun, Mr. Roberts drew his handgun. There was a tussle and Mr. Roberts' gun went off, striking Mr. Bailey in the chest, the chief said.

Jiwan! Those pesky Pennsylvanian, er, “Amish.”
Note how they talk around it. You have to read very carefully to find out that the deceased was the robber. It would be so much clearer to say “Stupid thief dies trying to rob armed man”, but that would not fit the agenda. Because all gun deaths are tragic, don’tcha know...
Zactly.
Very good news. A hundred unsolved crimes cleared, a couple hundred prevented.
Hometown of the great Henry Mancini.
Some guy jumped me last week for disparaging the Amish on the various gun stories we get here on FR. I checked in to the stories a bit deeper and found out they weren't really Amish but Menonites posing as Amish. /sarc
It’s the Post Gazette. What do you expect? We seem to have generations of journalists and editors that never got past namby pamby.
Not to mention the saved thousands in court costs and hundreds of thousands more for incarceration.
I bet he was black.
Good shooting, Citizen. Civilization thanks you.
Jiwan...sheesh!

Talked around it?? Looks like you “read” around it!
you can tell the Mennonites because they always bring that Jello with the carrot slivers in it to the picnics...
They were Holderites. Just like Mennonites, but completely different.
I knew a couple Jiwans, but they spelled it "Juan".
Is this paper owned by the NY Times?
Everyone referred to as Mr. This and Mr. That.
How about referring to them as the scumbags that they are.
Don't blame it on his mama but the bowl of alphabet soup she was eating when the nurse asked her to spell the baby's name.
You could replace the first three paragraphs with one sentence:
Jiwan Baily, 19, of Penn Hills was shot and killed early Thursday while attempting to rob Lucien Roberts, 26, and Brian Elmore Jr., 21, both of Aliquippa, around 2:14 a.m. in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue in Aliquippa.
Simple, direct and to the point. They teach you this the first day of J-School.
Had to chuckle about how the article is written to imply that the gun “just, kinda, maybe accidentally, pulled its own trigger and a bullet was last seen entering the perp’s chest”.
Not like the owner leveled off on center-of-mass and performed exacting gun control.
Back where I come from, we call them "accomplices"...
