More voters would blame Republicans than Obama in absence of debt limit deal, says poll

If Congress is unable to come to a deal to increase America's debt ceiling, more Americans will blame Republicans than will blame President Obama, says a new poll by Quinnipiac University.

According to the survey, released on Thursday, 48 percent of Americans say they will blame Republicans, not President Obama, if the country's $14.3 debt limit is not raised. Thirty-four percent said they would blame Mr. Obama rather than the GOP.

The poll comes on the heels of a tense round of negotiations over a deal to raise the U.S. debt ceiling, varying accounts of which describe everything from an abrupt walk-out by Mr. Obama, to "childish" behavior by leading Republican Eric Cantor.

The survey indicates, however, that as much as Americans disapprove of Mr. Obama's economic leadership, they trust him more than they trust Republicans on the issue: 56 percent of respondents said they disapproved of how the president is dealing with the economy, but 45 percent said they trusted him more than they trusted Republicans to deal with it.

“Blame”? For what? CBS acts as if NOT raising the debt ceiling is a bad thing! Oh wait, it’s CBS...

“If the Republicans hold fast against any debt ceiling increases, isn’t the proper term, “give credit to”?”

Of course CBS used QU, its their creation .
Retired CBS leftists created this push poll group.

My latest QU favorite poll was how Gov Scott was behind the Dem by 6 pts on election day and the Orlando Slantinel paid of this push poll !

I would like to believe the poll is flawed, but I don’t think we should underestimate the ignorance of the American sheeple, especially when it comes to economics and government spending. I would be willing to bet that most Americans think there really is a Social Security trust fund with money waiting for them when they retire.

Freepers should visit the DMV more often, or the county courthouse. That will give them a better idea of why Democrats win elections.

Liars. Quinnipiac is notoriously Leftist.

Maybe so, but the exact same thing happened to Gingrich in the 95' government shutdown. The public blamed Republicans and Clinton won. Why would anyone assume the same thing won't happen this time around? The media will blame the GOP and once any programs lose funding the public will howl in outrage and demand the money restored.

The American public is absolutely wedded to the social welfare state. Don't assume they are ready to actually cut anything other than maybe foreign aid and perhaps prisons.

Things are probably going to have to get much worse before American's addiction to socialism is broken.

Internals have been censored out to make it difficult to evaluate the results.

Here’s what they’re willing to reveal about the poll:

Because for Democrats, taking and holding power is a lifelong mission. Republicans don't tend to think that way as often. Government is like a religious institution for the left. They spend a lifetime trying to achieve power to change the way we live. For people on the left being in government is often their primary goal in life, so they hone their skills and become good at manipulating the masses - and naturally they have the media, entertainment industry and anyone else busy trying to empathize with the human condition supporting their efforts.

When you consider that the majority of so-called “Americans” get their “news” from the Alphabet/MSM that is so blatantly Leftist, it is no wonder these folks are so ignorant.

That's why the Pubbies should just quit negotiating, and pass a bill. Either no raise in the debt ceiling and mandate that the debt payments are made, Social Security checks go out, Military is protected, and Medicare payments are made, no funding for Obamacare. Let him own the problem of what to do - he created the crisis by spending like a drunken sailor.

Alternatively, a slight raise in the debt ceiling, and mandate payments be made for the military, Social Security, and Medicare and mandate cuts of the same amount (budget neutral). Also, mandate a budget be presented and approved before any other requests for debt will even be looked at.

All kinds of creative ways to put this monkey on the Administration where it belongs.

A budget passed would imply that all the monies needed for the budget are received by revenues or by borrowing. Thus the debt limit is pretty much ignored.

Your #52 is a piece of work. Never thought about it that way. You have to read the entire paragraph for it to come together. Well done.

Not sure I buy it all, but thinking.

Got involved in the senior marketing area in the last few years and I am finding what you say is true.

Thanks. It all makes more sense when you consider that for the dedicated left it all really comes down to a general belief in the perfectibility of man. Conservatives tend to accept that we are flawed beings and view proper governance as one that harnesses human nature rather than a misguided attempt to reject it. Government in many ways for the left IS their religion, so they just tend to view attaining power over our lives much more seriously. Common sense folks and traditional people often can't understand why the left despises us so much, but the reason is pretty simple - to the "progressive" left we are everything that is wrong with and holding back humanity from achieving something of a utopia on earth.
