Hatch spoils for fight with Club for Growth (RINO claims to be a "top conservative" in US history)
The Washington Post ^ | 2011-07-14

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) doesn’t yet have an official primary opponent, but he might as well be running against the Club for Growth.

A nasty war of words has erupted between the two sides, setting the stage for what appears to be a likely effort by the Club to unseat Hatch next year.

(snip)

The Club earlier this week released ads in Utah and Indiana (where it is also considering targeting GOP Sen. Richard Lugar), urging the two men to resist raising the debt limit, while also taking some shots are their records on government spending.

But as we’ve written before, while Lugar has essentially gone about his business, Hatch is fighting back. Indeed, he appears to be spoiling for a fight with the Club.

(snip)

“By any measure, I’m considered one of the top conservative members in the history of this country,” Hatch said. “And I don’t know what they’re doing. All I can say is, they’re wasting their money, and they ought to go after Democrats who are really putting us in this bad condition.”

He’s a relic. He is a RINO. He’s so over the hill I don’t even know if he understands what a Conservative vs a Republican is anymore. (if he ever did)

Today he damages our cause by muddying up issues on the talking head shows, just at press converences. He’s done it for a long time.

McConnell and McCain’s actions in the last couple of days, are precisely what I’m talking about.

They just destroy our unified attack on Liberal policy.

I’ve always thought Hatch was not only a conservative, but a rather devout one. Never understood the claims here he is a RINO.

You just cited McConell and McCain. I’ve never seen Hatch be liberal, don’t know what you guys are talking about.

Reagan was a “relic” if you mean around forever.

Hatch is a conservative about 1 year before he’s up for re-election.
The remaining 5 years, he’s TOP RINO.

You’ll either understand this or you won’t. I’m not here to offend you or give you a hard time if you appreciate Hatch.

I gave an example based on McConnell and McCain. That really is the best I can provide for you to get across what Hatch has done for many years.

If he wasn’t doing this, I wouldn’t look for reasons to explain away why he does. If you want to explain it away based on something other than age, be my guest.

If don’t agree, then that’s okay with me. I am not the only person to hold this view. I’ve conversed with quite a few people here who understand where I’m coming from.

In addition:

Here on this thread, it’s discussing Hatch’s disagreement with Club for Growth. As I understand it Club for Growth has been pretty solid on Conservative principles. If Hatch finds himself in disagreement with Club for Growth, that should probably be something to take note of.

Hatch voted for TARP for starters. He’s a big government insider. He’s oh so conservative now that his junior pal got primaried. Perhaps Utahns are dumbed down enough to pull the lever again. Dunno. I’ll vote for him if it’s between him and Matheson come November however. It will be interesting.

Hatch should retire. Utah is not a state, like MA, where we might tolerate a soaking wet.

Hatch actually does have a considerable conservative voting record.

His failing is that he has become toothless in fighting nominations of judges and bad legislation, along with befriending enemies of the country.

He’s conservative by the socialist standards now applied to politicians in the 2011 media.

By 1980 standards and true conservative standards he’s a Rino who goes along to get along and get those coveted media interviews.

HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

LOL! He’s totally lost without his best buddy Ted Kennedy. He’s even imagining himself a conservative. HA!

I don’t know if he’s a true RINO, but ole Orrin’s cheese slid off his cracker a long time ago. He doesn’t understand the new political battle lines. And really at this point he’s not much different from McCain. His only real priority in congress is to keep the gravy train going for his donors. He finds it impossible to stay on message in interviews. He continually plays right into the MSM’s hands with his reverse class-warfare rants. Oh, and he was for health insurance man dates before Mitt was a gleam in Taxachussetts’ eye.

Lot of good people in Utah. They can do better than Hatch.

The word is that Jason Chaffetz ( who is also a Mormon by conversion) is likely to take him on. If it works like replacing Bennett with Lee did last election, the whole matter will be done quickly at the State GOP convention. The Party just didn’t renominate Bennett, and they should do the same to Hatch. Hatch and Lugar (the evil twins) have been in the Senate exactly the same length of time, 35 years! You would think that anything of value that they might have contributed would have been done years ago. I for one, am tired of 80 year olds remaining in the Senate until they are carried out no matter how good they might have been at one time.

My complaint with Sen. Hatch is, he voted with the Dems on judicial appointees......seemed like every time.....maybe not 100% though.

He needs to go because he has been there forever!

Jason Chaffetz was Jon Huntsman’s campaign manager, and chief of staff. My spidey/viking kitty/reality radar just keeps sending me exception errors. Maybe he’s found the Constitution, maybe he’s found what makes America the shining beacon, or maybe he’s found what kept Orrin on the golden 1.5 gallon throne.

I don’t know. I just do not trust Chaffetz’ history. He may have us at heart, he may (as politicians have an inward wont) be looking at being set as U.S. Senator, with all its glory and pontification and did I mention glory, not to mention the genuflection of the local adoring faithful...

OTOH, I know he’s seen the inside of a Walmart. I just don’t know the motives behind his quite electable face. That’s the issue for me. Sorry, I just don’t trust him. Can’t say why. Don’t.

OTOH, Bill Clinton talked a good talk. Soereto reads a good talk. Jason has walked the walk since he’s been there, but within the same time frame, so has Orrin, having seen his junior senator Bennett put to pasture.

I’d rather Chaffetz than Hatch run against Matheson. I’m concerned, comma, however, and I fear that I may refer to this post in the future.

Hey, how bout that Huntsman! KSL runs every damned thing they can find on their NBC feed about the fool... mostly because his dad is one of the finest people on the planet. I’ve met senior, and have met few of his caliber. Sad that junior turned the way he did... an extreme fail version being Ron Reagan Jr.

Jon Jr is a good man. He should quit squandering daddy’s legacy. He should take up pottery or farming, or maybe establishing chemical plants in far off lands. Far off...

Hatch is what you Utah voters have pushed him into becoming. You’ve elected him so many times he feels he can do no wrong. Small government, hahaha. Reduced spending, hahahah That all becomes a joke when you dine with your democrat comrades from across the aisle three days a week. No need to get argumentative with a neighbor who uses the same 24 hour maid service that you do.

The Senators say, “We can work anything out if the damn voters will just keep their noses out of our business. We are the legislators, not those darn civilians!”
