Unbelievable: TV Reporter Mocks Romney's Mormonism
Commentary ^ | July 7, 2011

Posted on 07/09/2011 6:52:15 PM PDT by T.L.Sink

Polls show there's an anti-Mormon bias among voters - especially Democrats, more than a quarter of whom say they wouldn't vote for a Mormon. But this video of a Memphis Fox affiliate ridiculing Mitt Romney about his religion is a real wake-up call [video]. The whole news segment appears to be about Mormonism and the 2012 election, but skip ahead to the 3:20 mark for the worst of it [video].

Ben Nighthorse Campbell was a US Representative and then a US Senator but he was not from Utah...he was from Colorado

and he was a Roman Catholic so although he was a Republican, the Mormon vote in the primary would have been light and maybe in Nov also...

Hi there OAV,

I’ve found a great life in Mormonism and I think if you were to associate with Mormons and talk with them you’d get a very different (and more accurate) understanding of the faith than you’d get from people who seem make it part of their life’s mission to tear down the church.

Best regards,

Normandy

Yeah, the ‘anti’s’ are the ones telling the truth.

BTW, regarding the internet. The sources I provided are well documented (using LDS sources) and counter Mormon teachings.

Norm, all you found is a lie, a nice comfortable lie.

There is so much bad information on the internet, take wikipedia for instance, anyone can post to.

There is ALWAYS MormonWIKI; where EVERYONE can't!

As for BAD info; why not just PRAY about it?

Obviously, you can’t help yourself. You have to mock. Too bad.

Yup; you are right!

There is a LOT of it going around; so now it comes BACK arouind. Karma: to use another false religions concepts.

But, BIBLICALLY...

Proverbs 1:26-28

I in turn will laugh when disaster strikes you;
I will mock when calamity overtakes you—
when calamity overtakes you like a storm,
when disaster sweeps over you like a whirlwind,
when distress and trouble overwhelm you.

I like using Official MORMON writings!

THEY tell the story quite well.

You know that something is amiss though; when site that are ‘not affiliated with the COJSOLDS’ get all in a tizzy, trying to tell folks that what is WRITTEN is not what was MEANT.

Do you have any proof that Romney would try to appoint himself king of the world? No.

And to you...

Do you have any proof that Romney would NOTtry to appoint himself king of the world? No.

Would a candidate be attacked if he/she were a practicing traditional American Indian?

Would certain candidates like it if the HISTORY of his CHOSEN religion was shown to be very RACIST against American Indians?

EsPECIALLY when he was in very high position within the church?

There have been changes in the Mormon church, or so I heard

If so; then some knowledgeable MORMONs should be able to produce PAPERWORK to that effect.

Any takers out there?

Well, Norm; here is YOUR chance to 'post the truth'!

Heck; you can do a LOT less work if you just point out our LIES about MORMONism!

It disturbs me immensely that a reporter will mock someone being Mormon

How was he mocked? Seriously.

Yep, and the NRA can forevermore kiss my behind.

Normandy,

“think if you were to associate with Mormons and talk with them you’d get a very different (and more accurate) “

I’ve seen Mormon training films - the teacher instructs missionaries NOT To answer people’s questions...

"This entire video was not mocking mormons is was mocking mormonISM." This is the same argument that the anti-war folks like to use, "I support the troops, but not the war." You can't have someone mock Mormonism and not be mocking Mormons because they believe it.

I want to welcome you, oneamericanvoice, in joining our discussion.

Through the years you've done yeoman's work on FR & @ rallies, etc. on behalf of our troops. I appreciate that. (And despite the uptick in honoring them the past decade, we can never seemingly do enough on their behalf!)

Anyway, I know you are sensitive to the anti-war arguments; and think you see a parallel there.

The way, though, that I might suggest you look @ svcw's comments would be a parallel one to homosexuality.

Some of us who have friends who are homosexual and former homosexuals. I am up front in my strong opposition to homosexuality; but that doesn't mean we don't love the homosexual as a person. (We do) IOW, one doesn't follow.

Pro-lifers can pray for those in the abortion industry; but be repulsed by the results of abortion.

I have relatives who are Lds; I myself am a descendent of Mormons. What I suggest that you consider is that one way we can love people is to not withhold the truth from them.

Thanks again, for adding your voice to this discussion. I appreciate you!

What would people be saying if this were a American Indian candidate (pick any tribe) that is traditional? Do you think there would be the same treatment?

Would there be the same treatment from the MSM? (No, there wouldn't be). Given that our govt & universities & some grassroots groups have worked overtime to focus on minority groups -- and especially those who were historically treated in underdog ways -- the MSM would be especially sensitive.

Now being descended of Mormon blood, including Mormons who were harassed by non-Mormons, I know the Mormon narrative quite well: "We've been persecuted to no end; woe is us."

And so I'm sure there's more than a few Mormon eyes looking @ this post asking, "Well, if the MSM would be sensitive to historical minority & minority-religion underdogs like Native Americans, why not we the Mormons, too?

Well, that's a whole another discussion.

But one note here about Mormon history: People usually just buy the story line, and fail to check historical reality. As FR poster Zakeet has pointed out more than once, the Lds have killed more non-Mormons than vice-versa.

But I digress from your point: I would simply say that the "minority" religion that Mormonism compares on the closest level from a "cultural vantage point" would be Scientology, not Native American traditional religion. And this would be on multiple levels -- both culturally, sci-fi wise, and theologically:

* The TV show South Park has episodes satirizing both Scientology and Mormonism. This has entered into our youth-targeted cultural entertainment mainstream, and has since flooded over into the Book of Mormon Broadway production.
* For other similarities, see Similarities between Mormonism and Scientology You can see the article there, and my posts #1, #10, #13, #18, etc.

I've made it a point to NOT post ANY Book of Mormon broadway threads since it opened. 'Tis obvious that the liberal left has taken aim at Mormons as well as God in that production. But the Mormons, who have counterfeited Christianity, have brought collateral damage upon all who claim the Name of Christ!

Do you think that Romney would attempt to convert the entire country to Mormonism?

Romney himself? (No, or not necessarily)

The PR Division @ Lds, Inc.? (Yes)

The likelihood that 52,000 Mormon missionaries each year would quickly expand to 100,000 such mishies were Romney to be in the WH? (Yes)

I've said it before (& I'll say it again): This would open the door wide open for the massive LDS public relations propaganda campaign. (This especially applies to POTUS and may or may not apply to all political races): Bill Clinton was a presidential role-model disaster for our young generation re: the scandal. Any president the voting block elevates to the highest role model position in our land accords the highest vote of respectability to the public aspects of what that person stands for.

If that person, for example, is a neatly tucked-away communist who's adopted a mask of "family values," & we elect him president, we are telling our kids that communism is OK to emulate. Furthermore, we are handing proselytizing fuel to communists everywhere. It would fuel their door-to-door boldness and other aggressive campaigns to be able to say, "See. Our respectable Communist leader holds the highest office in the land. Come study what helped make the man he is today!"
