HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIKINI: 65 Years In The Life Of The Two-Piece
Simone Foxman | Jul. 5, 2011, 5:31 PM
From ridicule to ubiquity, the bikini has come a long way over the past 65 years.
It was on this date in 1946 that French fashion designer Louis Réard hired a nude dancer to sport his two-piece creation after the runway models he approached refused to wear it.
But despite provoking controversy -- centering around everything from morality to skin cancer to liposuction -- it is clear that the teenie weenie suit is here to stay.

I served on an APA from 1957-60 that took part in Operation Crossroads in 1946 and then on an LST from 1960-62 that was part of Operation Castle in 1954.
‘They’ (lawyers) talk about asbestos from ships built into the 60’s but hardly ever mention these tests as being potential problems at later dates.
Historical threads inspire me to study more.

USS Terrell County (LST-1157)
OK, let’s see what I have learned:
Marilyn Monroe
Jayne Mansfield
Sharon Tate
Unknown
Rita Hayworth
Annette Funiciello
What is the name of the woman I missed? She is stunning.
Cheers!
Joi Lansing. Most who have heard of her would have seen a couple of B-movies, and she played Lester Flatt’s wife on the Beverly Hillbillies, which is where I first noticed her.

Bluegrass was definitely not her element:

In any case, you are correct on the others, so you pass! Good job!
GXt—thanks—
I learned something new.
Joi Lansing 1929-1972;died at age 43 of cancer.
I must have seen her on the Beverly Hillbillies growing up, but did not remember her.
She was very beautiful, in a classic way.
Thanks for the lesson!
Wow!
I’ve never seen that side of her!
"I'd walk a mile for a Camel!" "Let your fingers do the walking" (Oh, that's for the Yellow Pages, of course. Silly me.)
You don’t get out much, do you?
You might want to study the history on this link:
Are we sure that wasn’t SPRAYED on???
Isn't that like hatless shoes or shirtless pants?
I’ll tell ya, that article had a couple of good points.
Thanks for widening my horizons. You never know what you’re gonna learn on FR.
This thread is a perfect antidote for an already-rotten day at work! Hooray bikinis!
