Socialism doesn't work for Greece, so why does Obama insist on the failed model for the U.S.?

If income redistribution works...if tax and spend is a model for America...why is Greece a bankrupt basket case threatening to bring down the entire European Union?

A much more important question: Why is Greece, with a 45% income tax rate, a 23% VAT tax (national sales tax) plus a host of other taxes, still hopelessly bankrupt? Greeks pay up to 70% to 80% of their income to the government. Yet Greece is insolvent. With all those heavy taxes, it took $160 billion to bail them out only one year ago. Now they need at least another $50 to 100 billion. Why would Obama want higher taxes for America, when Greece proves the model doesn't work?

All those Greek voters elected socialist politicians because they promised fat pensions, free health care, and lavish early retirement. Now they face unimaginable poverty for years to come. So the lesson is that when politicians promise chocolate cake with no calories, they should be put in prison for fraud.

Perhaps Obama should go to Greek's socialist rulers and ask for advice before we wind up with our own Big Fat Greek Bankruptcy.

Au contrere. Socializm does work. It’s the most effective, bloodless form of legalized theft next to divorce. And it’s totally scalable.

Well remember Hitler blamed the German People for the failure of his Reich.

Zero has blamed Business, Big Oil. on and on. He’ll get around to the American people pretty soon. When he loses the 2012 election count on it.

Socialism is more than an economic system or structures. It's a pseudo religion where:

Faith is in man, not God. (Secularism & humanism)

Where everything is based on a conflict social model (nothing has a purpose for being the way it is other than for one group to oppress another)

A belief that wealth is finite, not created (Which leads to the redistribution idea)

The idea that the benefits of centralization of power out weigh the risks and costs associated with it.

The objective is egalitarianism, not fairness. It is the outcomes that matter, not a fair playing field (which leads to affirmative action, quota's etc)

The socialist doctrine encompasses not only economic, but also political, social and religious aspects. A socialist practices a sort of religion of its own and this religion is by it's very nature one that cries out for people to subordinate themselves and shrink in order to fit under the omnipotent and omniscient hand of the centralized power. Like most religions, you can't "prove" the real merits of socialism which fails in practice, but that won't stop them.

Those that believe in God know to call it a faith, those that believe in socialism call themselves intellectuals, ethical, critical thinkers and cultured........ They create a parallel universe where evolution is Genesis and Global Warming the Apocalypse, but their man made explanations they would NEVER describe as being a faith in something. This includes the economic aspect of socialism itself.

Goes deeper than that. As an ex-liberal, I can tell you that many of those people honestly believe that the mass and repeated failures of socialism, communism, Marxism, whatever you care to call it, is due not to the inherent flaws in the system but that, “The wrong people were running the system.” This persistent belief is prevalent among the boosters of such a philosophy; they believe that if the right people were in charge, (specifically - them,) then it would work perfectly.

Unfortunately for them, socialism is always a failure in the long term if less than 100.0 percent of the people in the entity support it. At 99.9(repeating), the whole thing starts falling apart.

Because it won’t work for the U.S. either.

Liberals are stoooopid. They missed the reality that the Soviet Union collapsed and they will not learn the lesson of failed socialism from the collapsed US real estate market, either. American socialist spending and central control is on the way to crashing our economy like they did the Soviet Union and Greece. It has already collapsed the constitution. And they want to take it global through the UN. Idiots.

“I believe that there is a long list of very large reasons, but at it’s cornerstone, there remains one basic motivation, racism.”

I have zero doubt that you are right on this count. Absolutely no doubt.

Obama probably has rationalized his motivations, core beliefs, and emotional responses such that he likely doesn't consciously believe that he's racially motivated, but it is probable IMHO that at his core this is a primary motivation.

” Someday the story will come out about how he got into Columbia and Harvard. It won’t be wrote by a member of the MSM; it will come from one of the British newspapers. “

No doubt. Our newspapers, with few exceptions are useless at best, evil at worst.

Liberals and "progressives" always believe socialist failures are because of the people running the show, not because the system is inherently flawed.

And they are always confident THEY will be succeed because THEY are so much smarter than those who came before.

You are absolutely correct.

Even the Wall Street Journal. The paper hired Thomas Frank
who lived in Hyde Park and knows Ayres and Dorhn; he said
nice things about them and I did not renew my subscription; I will never buy that paper again; the only time I read anything is where there is a thread at FR.

I dropped them some 10 years ago, when they adopted the COC position of pro amnesty. I never liked “trendy” any more than Lt. Harry Callahan ;-)

The socialists (Democrats) are not interested in what works. If they were, they would not be socialists.

They are interested in power and from that, control over the lives of others.

Liberals are to put it bluntly delusional and insane.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over and expecting a different result - Albert Einstein

And that's socialism/liberalism/communism/progressiveness (or whatever they call themselves today) for you. It is the same old story, even though their ideas and ideals have without exception failed every single time and have caused nothing but death and misery, they are still deluded into believing that "this time it will be different."

Usually this delusion is caused by the belief that the past reason for failure was

1) The right people were not in charge, but the new leader is so much smarter and/or less corrupt than anyone that has tried and failed before, therefore he/she/it will make it work this time. (Hence Obama's nickname "The One")

2) We just didn't spend enough money if we only spend more and spend it sooner…. (2nd stimulus anybody)

3) or it's whatever scapegoat/Emmanuel Goldstein they can find fault for opposing them. ( Bush's fault)
