June 10, 2011 Mexicans Blast Execution of Criminal Alien Murderer In Texas

Mexicans on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border are protesting the upcoming execution of a criminal alien rapist and murderer scheduled for July 7, 2011, in Texas.

Because the convicted killer is a Mexican citizen, the Calderon government is questioning the procedures that were utilized in sentencing the death row prisoner, Humberto Leal Garcia. The Mexican ambassador to the United States requested this week that Texas Governor Rick Perry delay the execution until a review is completed of the sentencing procedures.

The 38-year old Garcia faces the death penalty for the rape and murder of 16-year-old Adra Sauceda in San Antonio, Texas on May 21, 1994 . Besides Garcia, 50 other Mexicans are sitting on death rows in the U.S.

In a 2004 ruling, the International Court of Justice determined that the United States was not granting death penalty convicts from Mexico their right to legal assistance by their own country.

Mexico's legal system prohibits capital punishment and a treaty with the United States forbids Mexican authorities from extraditing criminals to the United States who face the death penalty if tried in states that utilize some method of execution.

Though billionaire Carlos Slim controls most Mexican media, it would still be hilarious if some pollster secretly polled a large number of Mexicans to find out what they *really* thought about Mexico rejecting the death penalty, and having strict limits on prison sentences even for heinous crimes.

As anyone who has ever tried to do business in Mexico would tell you, you cannot take anything for what it seems. I interpret this as a matter of respect akin to the Asian notion of face, which has nothing to do with what they would consider justice. The Mexican character demands that their government make a show of trying to stop the execution, but no one really expects that they will. Oddly, the average Mexican would probably loose respect for the U.S. should we not carry out our laws, and conversely have more respect for the U.S. when we execute the man. But they would never admit that.

Perhaps Texas needs to adopt the Kaiser Sose method of execution. Kill the perp and his whole family and burn down their house(s). That’d send a message about illegals committing crimes in our country. Maybe even randomly take a dozen cars with Mexican license plates and crush them into cubes for every American harmed by an illegal alien, regardless of how slight that harm might be.

Leal, 38, from Monterrey, Mexico, was convicted for the 1994 rape and bludgeoning death of Adria Sauceda, 16, whose naked body was found on a dirt road about 100 yards from a party she and Leal attended. Her head was bashed in with a rock and she had been sexually assaulted with a stick.
