Officials with the Southern Baptist Convention said they have been the victim of an elaborate online hoax that included a phony news release announcing that the nation’s largest Protestant denomination had changed its position on homosexuality.
The release was sent to an unknown number of reporters and directed readers to a website designed to replicate the real Southern Baptist Convention website, along with working telephone numbers where individuals identified themselves as employees of the SBC Executive Committee.
“It is definitely a hoax,” said Roger Oldham, vice president for communication and convention relations for the SBC Executive Committee. “It seems to be perpetrated by an unidentified hacker who is trying to mimic the look of our SBC.net family of web pages.”
The news release came from a group calling itself the “Southern Baptist Conference of America.” The release falsely announced that the Southern Baptists had met in “extraordinary emergency session” to affirm gay rights and repent “of any past homophobia that not only hurt gay people but kept them ostracized from the church.”
The release included phony quotes and comments affirming homosexuality from real denominational leaders, including Southern Baptist Convention President Bryant Wright.
Wright told Fox News Radio he suspects the cyberattack came as a result of opposition to the denomination’s stance on homosexuality and same sex marriage.
“I have a hunch that maybe somebody that was unhappy with our ongoing stand for sexual purity decided to set up this false website,” Wright said.
The press release also included a working telephone number and directed people to contact Jane Marie Walker for information.
“Other staff members called the number and it redirected them to the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention but as far as we could tell it did not redirect them to our phones,” Oldham said.

They are trying to sever the human action (sex)from procreation and marriage—the only means of transmitting cultures in a emotionally stable way— which create meaning and worth and lasting relationships....because the communists....the cultural Marxists like Marcuse, Ayers and Dorhn....hate monogamy...hate families....hate motherhood....hate the patriarchy as developed by Judeo/Christian ideology.....because it has created the most self-sufficient, wise, responsible, creative society in the history of all cultures....and they want dysfunctional, useless idiots to order around...like the ACORN thugs....
We have to restore our God-given rights—there are Universal Truths—as our Constitution established...we can NOT allow marriage to be redefined because of some twisted whim of a perverted mind as the self-loathing Jew, Marx—and get back to the successful paradigm—the only one that has worked for the freest and healthiest society and the safest one for the development and happiness of children.

There are WAY too many Southern Baptist congregations who would tar and feather their pastors if the mere suggestion of homosexual acceptance were to be mentioned.
If the main Convention adopted a pro-gay doctrine, you would see an exodus from the SBC the likes of which would be stunning.
I mean..hey, if the SBC wants to throw away Biblical doctrine and teach something straight from the pit of Hell, that's their prerogative. But as for me and MY family...ain't no way, no how.

I used to be a member of the mennonite brethren church, and they now endorse female pastors. It won’t be long before they endorse homosexuality too.
I would love to see SBC as different but the problem is that the same root afflicts them all.
Give it 10 years.
Now, granted...as the 'silver-haired saints' in the congregations...who are staunch followers of Southern Baptist doctrine...pass on to be with Christ, it is possible that younger people with "new" ideas may come to influence their congregations. I still say that the majority of the folks sitting in Southern Baptist churches are repulsed at the very thought of homosexual acceptance.
I would even go so far as to say that some would become violent if it were suggested.

You’re all right. These are some more of the opening salvos in the war against Christianity. The ideas presented are antithetical to all of us; therefore, to more easily lead by the nose, the intent is to entertain us into docility, use the schools to separate us from our children’s hearts, and to remake society in their twisted and evil image. Squarebarb made reference to a certain individual, who unfortunately, isn’t alone in his awful desires. I think it bears repeating: while I may not agree with all present in matters of dogma and doctrine, I would happily defend our differences and disagreements versus those who would stifle and stomp us all into the ground, metaphorically or otherwise. I do not endorse violence, but unity. With all of you.
There is no logical reason to assume that what is 'natural' is good/better and what is 'artificial' is bad/worse.
