What you are talking about is the definition of what is “an American.”

Since America has no common ethnic, religious or other “tribal” affiliations, the only thing that CAN hold us together is a commonly accepted definition of who we are.

The last time we reached such a level of disagreement over what being “an American” means, 640,000 American men died fighting each other.

Equivalent of over 6M today.

I hope and pray that we can avoid that option, but I also see even worse options if we merely wait and hope the communists in the far left will be satisfied with what they have already stolen. I will at best go Galt 100% if we fail in 2012 - I will not contribute to a socialist people's republic.

His ancestry is Kenyan Mohammedan.

His paternal grandfather converted. This hardly constitutes "his ancestry."

That makes him more likely the descendent of slave traders than of slaves.

If you go back far enough, most of us and quite possibly all of us are descended from both. Why it is relevant is beyond me.

Well D’uh. You put a kenyan born moslem in the whitehouse and of course he’s not going to suddenly change into an American

I know he is not a natural born citizen and I strongly suspect he’s not a citizen at all. When is the secret service going to fulfill it’s vow to protect the Constitution and take the garbage out?

“...but I truly believe many Conservatives believed him when he said he wanted to use the best ideas of both sides to forge a moderate coalition.”
I believe that you are correct.
My father in law is a Korean war vet, retired airforce fighter pilot and was 85 years old in 2008. He voted for obama and he’s no liberal. He regrets it now, and I take a dig at him now and again for voting for the traitor.

Perhaps the irony escapes you.

None of my ancestors owned slaves ... at least for the past 1000 years. They were poor serfs and lived under oppression as far back as we can look.

You do not and cannot know that. (Neither can I or anyone else.)

Nobles and landlords, not to mention invading or just passing through soldiers generally made their best effort to be the "fathers of their country," and to a very considerable extent they were.

Recent DNA evidence has shown we are on average descended from only half as many male ancestors as female ancestors. Which means the upper crust oppressive bastards were a great deal more likely to pass on their genes than the oppressed men were.

Probably a good thing, as the oppressive bastards were probably on average more genetically fit and dispersion of their genes down into the general population was generally positive. (From a genetic standpoint, not that of the oppressed men and women.)

That, along with the U.S. Constitution.

“But I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture, the Colonial culture nascent at that time.”

None of my ancestors owned slaves ... at least for the past 1000 years.

Brief mathematical analysis.

Allowing for three generations per century, 1000 years ago each of us would have had 2 to 30th power ancestors.

Or 1,073,741,824. This is obviously inaccurate, as there weren't anywhere near that many people around at the time. And of course there was a lot of "overlap," with the same ancestors found in multiple lines.

But it is still pretty much a fact that if we go back far enough each of us is probably descended from just about everybody alive in that area at the time, those who left descendants. Statistically speaking. And as stated, the slaving, oppressing bastards were a lot more likely to reproduce than the oppressed men.

As Mel Brooks said, "It is good to be the King!"

The definition of who we are accepted by most, till recently anyway, includes a belief in the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the framework for implementing those principles established by the Constitution.

“But I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture, the Colonial culture nascent at that time.”

He is, of course, absolutely correct.

Somebody needs to explain to him about the perfect being the deadly enemy of the pretty damn good.

..."He just doesn't act or sound like an American"...

His behavior is normal and consistent for an individual whose background is non-American. A reminder that those Founding Fathers knew EXACTLY what they were doing when establishing requirements for the office of POTUS.

He is also descendant of Frank Marshall Davis, his Communist baby daddy.

Don't know if he is descendent from FMD, but the guy was definitely an influential mentor of his.

Barack Obama, from Dreams from My Father, Three Rivers Press, New York, Revised Edition, 2004, ISBN 1-4000-8277-3, p. 76-7:
"But by the time I met Frank [Frank Marshall Davis] he must have been pushing eighty, with a big, dewlapped face and an ill-kempt gray Afro that made him look like an old, shaggy-maned lion. He would read us his poetry whenever we stopped by his house, sharing whiskey with Gramps out of an emptied jelly jar."

Obama’s Red Mentor Praised Red Army
AIM Report | By Cliff Kincaid | April 30, 2008

Barack Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Moscow-controlled Communist Party USA (CPUSA), wrote a poem dedicated to the Soviet Red Army. “Smash on, victory-eating Red Army,” he declared. He also wrote poems attacking traditional Christianity and the work of Christian missionaries.

The “Red Army” poem goes beyond hoping for the communists to beat the Nazis in World War II and hails the Soviet revolution. It says:

Show the marveling multitudes
Americans, British, all your allied brothers
How strong you are
How great you are
How your young tree of new unity
Planted twenty-five years ago
Bears today the golden fruit of victory!

Obama’s Communist Mentor
AIM Column | By Cliff Kincaid | February 18, 2008

excerpt...

"through Frank Marshall Davis, Obama had an admitted relationship with someone who was publicly identified as a member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA). The record shows that Obama was in Hawaii from 1971-1979, where, at some point in time, he developed a close relationship, almost like a son, with Davis, listening to his 'poetry' and getting advice on his career path. But Obama, in his book, Dreams From My Father, refers to him repeatedly as just 'Frank.'

The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations."

Frank Chapman, a CPUSA supporter, has written a letter to the party newspaper hailing the Illinois senator's victory in the Iowa caucuses:

"Obama’s victory was more than a progressive move; it was a dialectical leap ushering in a qualitatively new era of struggle. Marx once compared revolutionary struggle with the work of the mole, who sometimes burrows so far beneath the ground that he leaves no trace of his movement on the surface. This is the old revolutionary 'mole,' not only showing his traces on the surface but also breaking through."

"Why did Barack Obama move to Chicago? Why did he choose a city famous for its corruption and distrust of outsiders as a launching pad for his political career? Did Obama's boyhood mentor, life long communist Frank Marshall Davis influence that choice?"
http://newzeal.blogspot.com/2008/10/obama-file-38-barack-obama-frank.html

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

From the Traditional Values Coalition, March 13, 2008:

"At some point in the 1970s when Barack was attending school in Hawaii, he became acquainted with Frank Marshall Davis, a member of the Communist Party, USA. Davis had moved to Hawaii in 1948 from Chicago where he had been involved in Marxist-related activities.

In Hawaii, he became a mentor to Barack Obama, the man who seeks the Presidency of the United States.

Kathryn Waddell Takara, Ph.D., a Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of Hawaii, has written at least two lengthy analysis of Frank M. Davis’s political activities both in Hawaii and while he was living in Chicago. Takara created the first Black Studies department at the U of H in 1971 and is an associate of such notable leftists as Angela Davis and Stokely Carmichael.

Takara’s paper, 'Frank Marshall Davis: Black Labor Activist and Outsider Journalist: Social Movements In Hawaii,' describes Davis’ radical activities in Hawaii as both a writer and labor organizer.

How this committed Communist became a mentor to Barack Obama remains a mystery, but it is likely that his mother was somehow involved in far left activities in Hawaii and met Davis through her left-wing network on the University of Hawaii campus. Perhaps an enterprising reporter could ask Senator Obama how he met Davis and what sort of influence he may have had on him. Likewise, one can only speculate on the influence his rebellious, left-wing mother had on his political beliefs and aspirations.

Now the real question.

How do we expose enough of this to make the Dems suffer even worse losses in 2012 than they did in the past election?

If it was all effectively exposed this would be the END of the Dem Party of Traitors.

The problem is the MSM shills who carry the water for covering for Barry the Commie Bastard.

When he speaks about America, Americans cringe. There is a strangeness to his manner, an unease when he talks about America. He appears awkward and uncomfortable. His speech seems performed and practiced yet, oddly halting. It's reminiscent of American POW's in Vietnam or Iraq reading a forced confession. His eyes, expressions, and vocal tone are disconnected from his words. The words themselves often sound American, but the delivery is clinical and detached. His attempts at patriotic sentiment ring hollow and phony. "Once again, with feeling!" is how Americans are left feeling. He just doesn't seem right. He doesn't seem like, well...one of us.

If you've found something that Obama isn't awkward and uncomfortable talking about (without his teleprompter) that's your real story.

For many of us, "being an American" was a normal part of our collective upbringing. We learned it in school. We said the Pledge of Allegiance every morning right alongside our teachers. Even in liberal Southern California the day began with the Pledge often followed by singing "God Bless America" or "America the Beautiful." Annual "Flag Ceremonies" were held with quotations from the Declaration of Independence and patriotic songs performed by the student body, in public, for parents and passersby to enjoy. There were even songs that mentioned God. Christmas was celebrated, in school. It was understood that God was integral to the founding of America and that The Creator was the true source of our liberties. Schools reinforced parental authority, being a good citizen, and responsibility to God. Religion was never preached or taught, but it was also never denigrated and never censored.

That's going back a while now. A lot of younger people never lived there.

Barack Obama does not sound like an American because Obama's heart and soul are not American in nature. His thoughts are not American. His attitude and philosophy are not American. He cannot speak from the heart about America because America does not reside there.

Well, maybe, but the assumption looks a little flawed. Even people who are very patriotic can have trouble summoning those feelings for public display.

I'm not saying that's Obama's problem. He's uncomfortable talking about everything when he doesn't have a script in front of him.

But the idea that it's easy for people to talk about the things that matter most to them goes against the way things are.
