What you are talking about is the definition of what is “an American.”
Since America has no common ethnic, religious or other “tribal” affiliations, the only thing that CAN hold us together is a commonly accepted definition of who we are.
The last time we reached such a level of disagreement over what being “an American” means, 640,000 American men died fighting each other.
Equivalent of over 6M today.
I hope and pray that we can avoid that option, but I also see even worse options if we merely wait and hope the communists in the far left will be satisfied with what they have already stolen. I will at best go Galt 100% if we fail in 2012 - I will not contribute to a socialist people's republic.
“Since America has no common ethnic, religious or other tribal affiliations, the only thing that CAN hold us together is a commonly accepted definition of who we are.”
That, along with the U.S. Constitution.
But I think it is an imperfect document, and I think it is a document that reflects some deep flaws in American culture, the Colonial culture nascent at that time.”
