San Francisco mulls ban on all pet sales, including goldfish and hamsters
San Francisco, a city named after the patron saint of animals, is considering banning sales of all pets including goldfish and hamsters in a sweeping attempt to end cruelty. By Nick Allen, Los Angeles

The ban would cover everything from dogs and cats to snakes, lizards, guinea pigs, parrots, mice and rats.
All mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish would be banned from sale in pet stores in what would be the most radical measure of its kind in the Unite States.
Those behind the proposal want to end impulse buying of animals, which they say can lead to unnecessary cruelty, and to stop them being treated as “commodities.”
The proposed ban initially only covered dogs and cats but grew to include all other animals because they are bred “under inhuman conditions” or taken from the wild, and in the case of tropical fish that could deplete stocks in Southeast Asia.
Live snake food was almost exempted from the proposal but even that would be banned after it was deemed cruel to leave small rodents at the mercy of pythons.

Just think of all the kids and old people deprived of the companionship of a dog or cat or even a bird.

The Californian politicians are just following the Liberal/Progressive logic of legalizing homosexual marriage: set the groundwork for the legalization of bestial marriage.
Just as interacial marriage was a problem as long as slavery was legal, how can bestial marriage be accepted - legally or socially - if animals can be bought as pets? Already, dogs and cats are not allowed to be eaten in the USA. PETA will come up and say that how can you eat something you can marry.
Now, some of you may object and say that animals cannot give consent. When a cat purrs, does it give consent? When a cat scratches, does it give rejection? Occasionally one learns about a donkey biting off a man’s weiner: has said donkey made a statement about consent? Just as there are institutions to ascertain the mutuality and compatibility between helper dogs and the handicapped who would be using said dogs, these institution can be extended to facilitate human-beast matrimony.
Hamsters?! Seriously?
What possible good could come from taking away some ten year old’s pet hamster?
Oh thats right...state control of everything you hold dear!
