EW YORK, June 26 (Reuters) - The Obama administration is considering requiring all new cars and trucks sold in the United States to get an average of 56.2 miles per gallon by 2025, The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday.

The EPA rated the Smart car at 42 MPG from what I found. Obama whats another 14 MPG.
Better get used to the push mower based car, only $87,995! Oh, and the Dems will still get to ride in limos and SUVs.
[If Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn is right]
He’s smoking dope. Do you understand the amount of amps you have to push over 15 minutes to store that much power? Do you also understand the batteries needed for that also don’t exist? Do you understand that the power plants don’t exist? Unicorns pooping skittles.
That’s a lot of Joules to transfer in fifteen minutes. Figure the gasoline equivalent of that.
Each recharge station, if it can handle more than one car at a time, would be a multi-megawatt electrical substation.
Obama & Co. are delusional to the point of not living in the real world. We are in the midst of a world recession which has devastated US manufacturing, transportation, farming and food production are hurt by high energy costs and our government has become a burdensome weight on the back of taxpayers and business.
All the green ideas involve schemes that are not cost effective and require government money (our taxes) and gimmicks to even look like they are break even.
Cars and trucks that average 56 mpg will be cardboard boxes on little plastic wheels, will run on tiny gasoline motors that charge electric batteries made of rare earth metals and toxic chemicals and the battery cost will be 50% of the vehicle cost. You and I won’t want to buy and own one, but there won’t be other choices available due to government fiat. Where in the US Constitution did the federal government get such powers?
In their dreams. The nobama regime will have no influence on anything beyond Jan, 2013.
We need the Senate in conservative hands in 2013, so the next Prez can overturn EVERYTHING Obamas done!
Damned right!!!
gmta!
This is perfectly reasonable, so long as you put sails on it and you have a good tailwind.
They are such fools.
I wish I could share some of my conversations with my auto "gnomes", these folks in O's administration are insane...
Do they intend to repeal the laws of physics first?
“It is amazing how the statist try to violate the laws of accounting, economics and physics “
Stalin had Lysenko!
Or Let me guess a modern day buggy for the reformed Amish.
These people are out of their freaking minds!
Legislating Innovation. Just how many Engineers (and I don’t mean Train engineers) are in Congress?
Can’t wait until they mandate a cure for Cancer.
When it’s available at a reasonable price, I might be interested.
it’s all garbage, and he and his handlers know it. It won’t take effect till years after he’s out of office, so it is just throwing red meat to his base of eco-wing-nuts, hoping they will forget about the gulf oil spill. it would never pass, and if it does, it would be revealed. if it is an executive order, it only lasts till he’s booted from office, which means it is moot because of the date.
he is a typical Chicago politician, full of promises, different promises, usually contradictory, to different identity groups that he is appealing to, but the national media never calls him on these contradictions.
he can promise the moon, skittles out of unicorn arses, the oceans will lower, the earth will heal itself, all this blah blah blah, and the zombies buy it up
Watch for the trickery. The EPA has come out with MPGE...E for ‘equivalent’, for electric cars. Its complicated, but they improperly give an equivalence of electric power (after transmission losses) to perfecly efficient gasoline (instead of the typical 15 percent efficiency). The result is the VOLT gets something ridiculous like 80 MPGE. In reality, a VOLT gets terrible mileage in gas mode and I have equated it to around 24 mpg in electric mode, using co2 as a comparison point (that’s right, anything with better than 24 mpg is more ‘green’ than a VOLT). Can you see where this new requirement is going though? Goodbye mpg, hello mpgE...and all the nonsense that goes with it.
