If she had any significant leadership/executive accomplishments/experience relative to the position of the President of the United States, this would have stayed a character establishing back story. By moving it to the front page of her resume, she put it in play.

She did it to herself.

She was not asked about the elephant in the living room, Sarah Palin. Why did she hire Ed Rollins to trash Sarah? Has she personally apologized to Gov Palin? why was the apology not made public etc, if there was one at all.

I would have also asked her about the Undefeated opening in Iowa the day after Waterloo, You realize of course that the latest LSM polls that show you surging, have taken Gov Palins name out of the poll, things along those lines.

Now Chris asked finally about what it would mean for her if Perry gets in the race? But never asked her about if Palin gets in the race?

That question leaving Palin out but including Perry, shows an agenda.

I take extreme umbrage that you would call me benighted. As head of the Palin fan club I thought you may be able to get the point w/o some silly disclaimer. Perhaps you could have read my tagline or something???

so to the MB supporters here, I hope you sleep well at night knowing your allies are MSNBC Matthews/Maddow and the NY Times, I am embarrassed for all of you.

Hey, Mr GeorgeFriend....please don't bother being embarrassed for me.

I say proudly that I'll not take any stand that just cause some guy I don't like also likes a guy I like, that this is somehow shameful.

Well maybe in the first grade that sort of logic applies.

Heh. Is that you Mitt?

You are right and Bachmann is a bit disengenuous as she spouts this “I raised 23 foster children” mantra.

Which is not, I hasten to insert, to cast aspersions on a family that takes the temporarily unwanted into their care. They are, indeed, worth the funds and those receiving them deserve them.

But such “temporary care” can be as short as a week, hardly “raising” them.

If this was a liberal spouting this deceiving info week after week we’d be all over them.

Still, I like Bachmann, I’ve got an open mind about her, for sure she’s better than Romney.

Unless you are clear in your satire—and the original post under discussion has not the slightest hint of it—one would have to be a regular reader of yours (I'm not) or a mind-reader to "get it."
A professional editor would be much harsher than I.
But now that I discover you are not a Palin opponent,I apologize for the hasty attack.
But when it comes to Sarah Palin,I shoot first at all perceived Palin haters even if a few are found later to be undeserving. I don't apologize for that.

MB’s appearance on Fox was entirely “lame” IMO.

I wouldn't call it lame, but she could have done better. She didn't seem to answer all the questions directly, but used her talking points instead.

Wallace's question, "Are you a flake?" was really lame. He goes on to back it up saying that's what others in Washington are saying.

Bachmann could just as easily have asked Wallace, "Others say you are an idiot, Chris. ARE you an idiot?" It's a stupid question that has no place in a serious interview.

Michelle Bachmann, IMO, would have a better future rising in the ranks within the House. I just don't see her as presidential material at this point. Now if she became the candidate, I would vote for her in a heartbeat. Any Republican would be better than obama. My cat would be better than obama (although kitteh couldn't pass the constitutional requirements)

To be fair, only successful mutual funds are around long term and if you had SS gazillions dumped into mutual funds, the returns for everyone would dive.

But yes, there’s certainly an argument for the successful being much better off without participating in SS.

Katie Couric is the example I had in mind. I just looked up the contexts in which she had done it + found that Nora Ephron wrote a piece bashing Couric entitled “Some people.” Albeit in response to Couric’s interview of John + Elizabeth Edwards in 2007. It is a lazy, irresponsible way of interviewing.

A candidate can’t do this, but as a viewer, I’d write to Wallace, “Chris, some say that you are only on TV because your father is Mike Wallace. How do you respond?”

Wallace has done some damage here. The headlines and Internet
searches now pair Bachmann and flake. Really inappropriate by Fox.

You get a standing ovation Mr Rice Krispies.

Social Security is one of the worst retirement plans a person would ever choose, not that, heh, anybody chose it save the politicians.

I’ll fine tune your argument since you’re not going on about T-bills and such. There really ARE people who wouldn’t be prudent enough to save for their retirement.

Just like there are folks who live from paycheck to paycheck or buy houses they can’t afford or charge up credit cards to the moon. Comes the time when no money for food, no funds for rent, society has no choice but to take care of them, although a real argument can be made that the private sector charities would do a better job.

Get a bunch of old people, unable to work, who never saved a damn dime and now what we gonna do with them...well hey, that was the original argument for SS to begin with.

Still, the private 401K/IRA system gets heavy participation albeit from people who actually WORK, and us silly boobs out here in la-la land got real wise real quick.

Like just how much the politicians took from us by absconding with my money...buying T-bills evidently, AND my employers match....total almost 12.5% of my salary for God’s sake.

Got to a financial advisor and ask how much you should sock away for a decent modest retirement and they’d probably suggest a 10% paycheck investment into a mutual fund, like you suggest, should provide a quite comfortable retirement.

This is what we’ve learned out here in la la land and it’s why the politicians, especially the Democrats but Repubs too, are so scared of touching SS....they don’t the silly populace-401K wise by now, rising up and asking what the hell they did with our money.

While I’m at it, let me throw out another awful fear the politicos have. They are terrified that the American public might get in a sniff and demand that from now on ALL money withheld from people’s paychecks for SS/Medicare be TRULY put aside, like the 401K’s, in a separate account, be turned over to an independent caretaker, a CPA firm maybe,...and NOT BE TOUCHED.

the politicos fear this as much as anything. Imagine how much money all the withheld and matched SS and Medicare money pulled from the economy would cause? It would be a fiscal disaster and yet the gubmint wouldn’t allow Sears, my husband’s employer, to go spending his money withheld from his paycheck.

What have the politicians not messed up? Immigration? ONce we gave a blanket amnesty and went back to carrying the country on our back. We look up and we got a nation filled up AGAIN with illegal immigrants, now murdering us and marching with the politicos calling us nasty for having expected them to protect the borders, silly us.

How about the mortgage thing? Hey, lookit, the gubmint tries to encourage buying a house. Homeowners make good citizens. You don’t go running around robbing and killing people when you got rooms to pain and lawns to mow. We get tax deducts for mortgage interest and this is how the gubmint can encourage behavior in citizens that they like.

But the politicians, doing what politicos do, went and gave anyone with a pulse a mortgage they couldn’t afford and now they’re desperately trying to hide how they really messed things up and their little social plan didn’t quite work out like they’d have liked. If you complain they call you mean for why can’t meth-addicted Crystal and her murdering pimp have a house just like the rest of us?

And so they did with SS and Medicare and the politicians, as in castigating us for complaining about immigration and scolding us for demanding that mortgage holders be fiscally disciplined and credit-worthy, now attack any political party that wants to fix the problem and if they can, maybe they can talk the population into attacking the retired and elderly sick cause that’s a good political tactic, get them attacking each other.

Politicians generally do not look out for the greater good. Given a choice they’ll go chasing their next vote and they’ll do it with OUR money.

It’s why the tea party scares the hell out of them.

She also backed away from the “Is Obama unAmerican?” question. She became McCainish and wouldn’t question his patriotism when she could have hit it out of the park.

We don’t need any canned answers but straight shooting and how can she think he is patriotic when there are hundreds of examples of the opposite. Is taking over the banks, auto industry and stopping drilling patriotic? This is what we don’t need.

I may have been a tad unfair in labeling the entire interview as “lame”. I, as you, feel that she is not presidential material as yet. I was looking forward to this opportunity on Fox for her to follow up on her decent showing during the CNN debate. I’m still searching for a candidate that I can support with all my heart and wallet.

As you know I have been hammering using our natural resources and especially oil, but lumber and forest management here in Oregon. I have been posting these pedestrian verbose writings to the Oregonlive site which is the Oregonian our main paper. Look at this mornings front page story of the Sunday Oregonian, a positive forest management story.

http://www.oregonlive.com/environment/index.ssf/2011/06/on_an_oregon_coast_range_ridge.html

I ain’t saying I did it but I’m taking credit anyway. We need to get our voice out in words. We don’t know who will be moved by it and here in Oregon perhaps the worm is turning? Just like your SSI discussion, these are the issues that really matter. What did they do with all that money?

Pray for America

Agree. Of what I saw, she refused to deviate from her talking points.

As for kitteh running, all he/she would need would be a COLB from Hawaii.

Thanks Kabar,

I understand that the demographics have changed over the years.

I understand that the Fed pays interest to the TF at what are probably current short term rates.

My question to you is: Does the Fed calculate the “time value of money” in these payments”?

In other words, $1.00 today isn’t the same as $1.00 in 1960 when it was paid in, even with compounded interest.

Your posts are great, and I look forward to your response.
