BRATTLEBORO, Vt. Attorneys and witnesses have wrapped up the first day of a two-day hearing before a federal judge in Vermont over whether the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant can continue to operate while a protracted legal fight plays out over its future.
Entergy witnesses told lawyers that if the plant is forced to shut temporarily, it will lose about $20 million a month in revenue and may shut down permanently rather than wait for the legal fight to be resolved.
Entergy lawyer Kathleen Sullivan said Vermont lawmakers tried to hide that they had nuclear safety in mind when they moved to block the plant from operating past the end of its initial 40-year license next March. Entergy and the state agree that nuclear safety is the purview of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
But I doubt they will generate mush sustained power, they really have little substance.
The Vermont ;egis;lature is in the control of leftist village idiots. I mean, just imagine how much that electrical power rates will accelerate if Vermont Yankee does not continue to operate, and IT IS A SAFE PLANT. This is an ideological battle.
Free Vermonters have had enough of these leftist Vermont village idiots. They are beneath contempt.May they all rot in hell.
Apparently they have a pretty sweet deal with Quebec Hydro
Got the same $hit going on with Indian Point. Ever since Japan, the chicken littles have been out in FULL FORCE to end nuclear power production.
They have no alternative, but don’t care. Same family tree as those Vermont village idiots.
Almost everybody has a “sweet deal “ with Quebec Hydro. They have worked assiduously for a monopoly position in the industry and are well on the way to acheiving it. They will later name their price and force people to pay.I know Quebec Hydro very, very well. They almost succeeded in taking over New Brunswick Power last year in an attempt to cut off competition for power export to New England.
I have to laugh about all the bunk published by AP in Vermont newspapers about Tritium leaks nationwide.None of it has been found in public ground water, and Tritium is a rather innocuous and easily traceable compound. It has not been proven to cause any illness in human beings in minute quantities either. It is used on watch faces to glow in the dark, worn by billions of human beings. The MSM is so down on the nuclear industry, its interesting to watch them try to invoke panic to get their way.
Vermont Yankee is about to get a very comprehensive renovation with a recharge of fuel next year, and the left knows it. They want to destroy the plant for ideological reasons before the new work on the plant is completed. The left also has worked to defame and promote local hate against the engineers who work at Vermont Yankee.Where are the Civil Rights mavins? The entire group of anti Vermont Yankee village idiots needs to be raked over the public coals.Tar and feather the lot of them.
Yes, the chicken littles are basically dopers who now think they can think after re-arranging their synapses with a generation of marijuana and coke use.
They have as much logical capacity as your average garden slug. Just put out a dish of beer and watch them drown.Thats how the MSM gets them going.
Thelatest AP articles on the “Tritium” threat nationwide somehow omits the fact that tritium is used on watch and clock faces, as well as on gun sights through out the world, and has been for generations without any ill effects to the users. What a laugh they are.
Very knowledgeable post. Here’s your articles weak point; “They will later name their price and force people to pay.”
1998 - storm in 97 . I believe my company sent crews north to rebuild.
My comment is still valid - perhaps moreso.
I have watched Quebec Hydro at work for over 20 years. I saw what they did to Newfoundland. I also saw how they tried to take over NB Power through buying then Premier Graham..he was deleceted on the issue.
IMHO Quebec hydro is very much behind the anti Vecrmont Yankee movement. They are equal to the Chicago gangster style of politics to obtain exclusive market share, and in that sense are at one with the Obama regimes approach to destroying US energy diversity.
Quebec hydro will hardly be Vermonts saving grace for energy, they simply want Vermont to join the international grid so they can make huge profits in a few years as the only act in town, and will tie their initiatives to Quebec independence as they have in the past.As a “provincial corporation” their executive ideology is one of entrenched socialism, and the non diversification of energy ( they have only one nuclear plant), a diversification that we need in the USA and Vermont. They are all for Big Government. In some circles they are Big Government, they are just that powerful.
I would rather see 3 or 4 nuclear generating stations in Vermont than take one more electron of Quebec Hydro power than we have already.
